Chapter Three : Eviction and Freedom
"Join you?" Camden asked.
His voice vibrated with a dangerous, quiet rage. He didn't take his eyes off Valerie, his gaze fixed on her flushed, guilty face.
He had wanted a real marriage, always believing in having one partner to build a life with. For him, his parents’ thirty-six-year marriage was the ultimate standard. He had watched them hold hands in the quiet of their garden, their quiet devotion enduring through every storm of life. He had desperately longed to build that same stable, fairy-tale life. But looking at Valerie in her silk robe, offering him a twisted threesome, the illusion shattered. He would never have that beautiful life with her. The woman he had planned to marry, the one he had altered his lifestyle for, was a total stranger.
Behind her, Cleo didn't have the decency to look ashamed. She casually pulled on her expensive designer pants, her movements lazy as she adjusted her clothing, utterly unbothered by the destruction of the relationship she had helped tear apart. Her dark eyes gleamed with an unsettling amusement, as if the entire scene were merely a game played for her entertainment.
"Don't knock it till you've tried it," Cleo commented with a wicked, teasing grin. "Valerie says you're quite... skilled. I'm always down to see if the rumors are true."
A sudden wave of intense nausea hit Camden, making his stomach churn. The mere thought of Valerie discussing their intimate sex life with this brazen interloper made him physically ill. He felt dirty just standing in the same room. His gaze flicked to the crumpled silk sheets, smelling of their combined scents. He wanted to rip them off the mattress and burn them.
"Get out," Camden repeated, his voice a low, terrifying rumble that left no room for debate. "Both of you."
Valerie’s face hardened instantly, her voice rising in shrill indignation. "This is my home too, Camden! You can't just throw me out."
She stepped forward, reaching out to grasp his arm with her manicured hand.
Camden stepped back immediately, recoiling from her physical touch as if she were made of acid. "Not anymore," he stated coldly. "You forfeited that right once you cheated."
Unable to stand being in the same room as the tainted bed for another second, Camden turned on his heel and walked away. He headed straight down the hall to the living room, leaving the quiet sounds of their arguing behind him.
He walked over to the wooden bar cart in the corner of the room. His hands tensed with adrenaline as he grabbed a heavy crystal tumbler. He picked up a bottle of aged whiskey and poured himself a stiff measure, downing half of it in one burning gulp. The heat in his throat was a welcome distraction from the cold emptiness expanding in his chest.
His mind calculated the sheer magnitude of the deception. Eight months of elaborate lies. All those times she had claimed she was going to "spa days" or "girls' nights" with Cleo, the so-called best friend she had met at a family party. It begged a sickening question: how many other people had there been during their twelve months together? If she didn't consider sleeping with a woman to be cheating, how many others had she invited into their bed?
He poured another drink, sipping slowly to ground himself. He needed a clear head to deal with the trash before processing the betrayal.
Footsteps sounded in the hallway.
Cleo appeared first, fully dressed and adjusting her blouse. She casually slung her designer bag over her shoulder, shifting all of the blame onto his fiancée with a half-shrug.
"For what it's worth, Valerie is the one who pursued me," Cleo stated, her tone wholly devoid of remorse. "She was the one begging for it."
Camden glared at her, his jaw ticking, his fingers tightening around the crystal glass. "Get the fuck out of my house."
Unfazed by his hostility, Cleo offered a nonchalant, open invitation to contact her for a threesome before slipping out the heavy front door, abandoning Valerie to the wreckage.
Valerie stepped into the living room moments later, her face flushed red not with shame, but with defiant, entitled anger.
"Really, Camden, you have no right to speak to her like that," Valerie snapped, crossing her arms defensively. "It's not like I was with another man."
Camden set his crystal whiskey glass down on the wooden cart with a sharp, echoing *crack*. His voice dropped to a terrifyingly controlled, icy register.
"That's your defense?" he asked, stepping toward her. "That it doesn't count because she's a woman? You've been fucking someone else behind my back for our entire engagement, in our bed, and I'm overreacting?"
"It's just a little fun," she insisted, her tone patronizing. "I love you, Camden. This thing with Cleo—it's just physical."
The sheer absurdity of her logic snapped the last thread of his patience.
"You don't know the first thing about love," he snapped fiercely, his legendary control finally slipping. "What's not fair is making me believe you wanted the same things I did. A life together. Commitment. We're done."
Seeing her arguments failing, Valerie’s indignation rapidly shifted into calculated manipulation. Swaying her hips and pouting her lips, she stepped directly into his personal space, trying to placate him with empty promises to end things with Cleo immediately. As she reached up to stroke his chest, Camden reached out and caught her wrist in a vice-like grip, stopping her dead. He squeezed just enough to let her feel his absolute physical dominance, his dark eyes cold and unyielding, staring down at her with a look that made her throat go dry.
"There's no 'we' anymore," he declared, dropping her hand in disgust. "I want you out of this house tonight. Take whatever's yours. Leave your key."
Genuine, wide-eyed panic finally replaced her false confidence as the reality of her wealthy lifestyle evaporating hit her. The penthouse, the designer clothes, the social standing—all of it was gone in an instant.
"You're serious," she said, her voice faltering.
"Deadly," Camden replied.
Desperate, Valerie tried one last, emotional manipulation. "I can't believe you mean this... You love me."
Camden looked at her crying face and felt nothing but relief.
"No, I'm not in love with you, Valerie," he said, pure ice coating his words. "I was in love with the part you played. And you are a fantastic actress. But the show is over. Pack your things and get out."
He realized he had suppressed his own darker, more dominant desires and changed himself to fit into her vanilla, high-society mold, but no more; he is going to be his true self again. For her, he had hidden his true nature, pretending to be the gentle, yielding gentleman she wanted him to be. He had locked away his appetite for power, control, and submission, forcing himself to play a safe, predictable role. But tonight, the chains were broken. He was done pretending. If he never found the right partner to fit his needs, so be it. His sister, Brynn, would have kids one day, and he could make them his heirs.
Valerie realized there was no winning him back. With a final glare, she stalked back to the bedroom.
Twenty agonizing minutes later, Valerie dragged a massive white suitcase to the front door, her face stained with ruined makeup.
"When you calm down, you'll realize what you're throwing away," she sneered, still bitterly clinging to appearances before the heavy door clicked shut firmly behind her.
Standing in the sudden, deafening silence of his empty home, Camden pulled his smartphone from his pocket. He immediately made two vital phone calls.
The first was to the head of his private security team. "Change every lock on the property," Camden ordered, his voice clipping the words short with absolute finality. "The front door, the terrace doors, the service entrance. Now. I want it done tonight before I close my eyes."
"Understood, sir," the security chief replied. "We'll have a team there in twenty minutes."
The second call was deeply personal. He contacted the elite concierge to formally reinstate his dormant membership to his exclusive, secret club.
The line rang twice before a smooth, professional voice answered. "Elite Concierge services. How may we assist you tonight?"
"This is Camden Vance," he said, his voice steady, reclaiming the authority he had put on ice for far too long. "I want to formally reinstate my membership."
"Welcome back, Mr. Vance," the operator replied. "Your dormant status has been lifted. Your access credentials to the club are active as of this moment."
"Thank you," Camden said.
He ended the call and slipped the phone back into his pocket. A dark, familiar energy stirred in his chest, a low thrumming of power that had been buried for too long. The secret club, the masked encounters, the raw dominance he had locked away—it was all waiting for him. It was the core piece of his true identity that he had foolishly surrendered for Valerie, and he intended to reclaim it tonight. He was finally going back.
