Chapter Two : Betrayal in the Master Bed
Camden Kensington stepped out of the freezing New York wind and into the quiet warmth of his Upper West Side brownstone. He knew he absolutely should have been in Boston by now. He should have been sitting in a sterile corporate boardroom, hammering out the final, grueling details of a critical corporate acquisition. Instead, a sudden, violent hailstorm had pummeled the tarmac at the airport, completely grounding his private flight and sending him straight back home for the night. He had already rebooked a flight for early tomorrow morning, giving him just enough time to arrive for the meeting, but leaving him with an unexpected free evening in the city.
He wasn't angry about the delay. If anything, Camden viewed the unexpected change of plans as a perfect, romantic opportunity to surprise his beautiful fiancée. As he walked down the street earlier, he had looked at the neighboring brownstones and thought about how great this neighborhood was to raise kids. Six months ago, he had slipped a heavy diamond engagement ring onto Valerie's finger. She had agreed to move in, promising him a future and a family right here in this very house.
He unlocked the heavy front door quietly, letting himself into the dimly lit foyer. The house was warm, a sharp contrast to the biting cold outside. As he set his leather briefcase on the floor and loosened his silk tie, the sultry notes of soft jazz drifted down the hallway to greet him. The music mixed with the distinct, echoing chime of light laughter coming from their master bedroom.
Camden smiled to himself as he stripped off his damp wool coat and hung it on the rack. He reasonably assumed Valerie had invited a girlfriend over to keep her company while he was supposed to be out of town. He hadn't planned to be here tonight, so he certainly couldn't complain that she had made her own plans. He paused in the hallway, glancing toward the living room. He figured he would head to the bar cart, pour himself a stiff glass of whiskey, and then go in to greet them. Knowing his luck, Valerie and her friend were probably digging through her massive wardrobe, leaving a mountain of silk and lace piled all over their bed.
He took a step forward, but his footsteps halted on the hardwood floor as he approached the bedroom. The laughter faded into giggles, then hushed whispers he couldn't quite make out.
Then, a voice that was most definitely not Valerie's murmured from inside the room. The tone was low and seductive.
"Baby, just like that."
A split second later, Valerie answered the stranger. The sound hit Camden like a physical blow to the ribs. It was a loud, breathy moan of unmistakable, raw sexual pleasure. He recognized that exact sound. He had heard it in their bed a hundred times before.
His stomach dropped violently. A freezing, suffocating dread rapidly spread through his broad chest. The hairs on his arms stood straight up. Every instinct in his body screamed at him to turn around, to walk away and pretend he hadn't heard a thing. He knew exactly what he was about to walk in on before his hand even touched the brass doorknob. But Camden was a man who handled business head-on. He couldn't hide from the ugly truth. He forced his hand onto the knob and pushed the heavy bedroom door wide open.
Absolutely nothing could have prepared his mind for the shocking scene unfolding before him.
Valerie lay completely naked, sprawled across their expensive king-size mattress. Her flawless blonde hair was fanned out wildly over Camden's own pillow. Her pale legs were spread wide apart. Tangled up intimately between her thighs was another entirely naked woman. The brunette's face was buried directly between Valerie's legs, her mouth and fingers actively working on Valerie's wet pussy.
Time stopped. The world tilted on its axis. As the heavy door swung open, the second woman shifted and lifted her head from Valerie's crotch. Camden recognized her instantly. It was Cleo, his younger sister Brynn’s supposed best friend. The same woman he had met at his sister's engagement party.
Valerie looked up toward the doorway, as if suddenly sensing his presence. Her eyes snapped wide in absolute terror.
"Camden!" she shrieked.
She frantically scrambled out from underneath Cleo, her limbs flailing as she desperately grabbed for the white silk bed sheets to cover her exposed body. The color completely drained from her face. "You're supposed to be in Boston!" she stammered, her voice cracking with sheer panic.
In stark contrast, Cleo simply sat back against the wooden headboard. She made absolutely zero effort to cover her bare breasts or her naked vagina. A brazen, unapologetic smirk played wildly on her lips as she locked eyes with Camden. She looked entirely unconcerned about being caught fucking another man's fiancée.
"Flight got canceled," Camden replied. His voice sounded hollow, robotic, and entirely distant to his own ears. He stood frozen in the doorway, staring at the two naked women in his bed. The jazz music continued to play softly from the corner stereo system, mocking the sudden, deafening silence in his head. They hadn't heard him come in because of the music. His mind raced, struggling to process the profound betrayal playing out right in front of him.
"How long?" he demanded, his tone dropping to a dangerous, steady register. He was much calmer on the outside than the boiling anger he felt on the inside.
Valerie clutched the sheet tightly against her chest, looking pitiful as she glanced at Cleo, then back at him. "It's not what you think," she stammered.
"How. Long." Camden repeated. He emphasized each word like the strike of a hammer. His large hands balled into tight fists at his sides, his fingernails digging painfully into his palms until the knuckles turned stark white. "Answer the question, Valerie."
Valerie looked down in shame at the rumpled, stained sheets. "Soon after Brynn's engagement party," she whispered.
Camden calculated the timeline instantly. Eight months. Their entire, highly publicized eight-month engagement had been built on a foundation of absolute lies. Not just their engagement, but their whole relationship. She had met Cleo at his sister's party, and they must have started fucking right away. Two months later, Valerie had smiled, looked him in the eyes, and accepted his diamond ring while she was actively sleeping with a woman behind his back.
"Let's get this straight," Camden said, his voice dripping with pure venom. "You've been fucking my sister's friend for eight months."
Valerie scoffed. She awkwardly reached for a silk robe hanging at the foot of the bed. "Don't be crude," she said, attempting to regain a shred of her usual haughty composure. She slipped her arms into the sleeves and tied the sash tight around her waist. "It's just physical. It doesn't mean anything."
Cleo stretched her naked limbs on the mattress like a lazy, unconcerned cat, her bare breasts shifting with the movement. "Don't sell yourself short, Valerie," Cleo purred, glancing at Camden with that same unapologetic smirk. "It means something to me."
A violent wave of intense nausea washed over Camden. He felt like throwing up. Valerie had brought this filth into their sanctuary, into their shared home, and directly into their bed. He would burn this mattress before he ever slept in this room again. He glared at Cleo, utterly disgusted by her complete lack of shame in her nakedness and her blatant betrayal of his sister's trust. The casualness of their betrayal struck him like a physical blow. They had planned this. They had waited for him to leave town just to fuck in his bed.
"Get the fuck out of my house," he snarled at Cleo.
Cleo raised a dark eyebrow, lazily reaching for her clothes scattered across the floor. "Excuse me?"
"Get out," he barked.
Valerie took a step toward him, raising her hands in a pathetic, placating gesture. "Really, Camden, I just don't understand why you are so upset," she said, her tone shifting to one of annoyance. "Let's talk about this like adults."
Camden let out a harsh, hollow laugh that held zero humor. "You've been cheating on me for eight months, and you want to talk like adults?"
Valerie took another step forward, daring to place a manicured hand on his broad chest. "It's not cheating," she insisted. "Not really. Cleo is a woman, not a man."
Camden violently stepped back, recoiling from her touch as if her skin were made of acid. His eyes widened in sheer disbelief. He stared at the woman he had proposed to, realizing in that exact moment that she genuinely lacked any fundamental moral compass. Cheating was cheating. It didn't matter what was between the other person's legs. Was she actually that stupid, or did she have the morals of an alley cat? This was certainly not the woman he wanted raising his future children. This wasn't even a woman he wanted in his life.
But just when Camden thought the shock had reached its absolute peak, Valerie's next words shattered the remaining fragments of his sanity.
She looked up at him, her eyes gleaming with a twisted, desperate hope. She thought she could fix the situation and salvage the luxury life he provided by offering him a fantasy.
"We could invite you to join us sometime," Valerie suggested softly, a sick smile tugging at the corner of her mouth. "You might like it. Isn't it every man's dream to have two women at once?"
