The Miracle Needling

Shattering the paralyzed silence that gripped the VIP ward, Valeria lunged forward. Her hands locked onto Dr. Brenner’s pristine white collar, twisting the expensive fabric until it choked him.

"You useless thing!" she screamed, her voice cracking with fury. "I told you not to remove those needles! Now look at him! If my grandfather dies on that bed, I swear I will kill you myself!"

Brenner’s prior arrogance dissolved into pure terror. Sweat poured down his forehead as he trembled in her grasp. "No! This has nothing to do with me!" he stammered, shaking his head from side to side in a desperate panic. "It is that other healer! His archaic methods caused this critical failure! His primitive needles did this!"

Just as Brenner attempted to shift the blame onto the missing healer, the heavy wooden bathroom door clicked open. Kaelen strolled back into the room, casually wiping droplets of water from his hands with a paper towel. His relaxed demeanor vanished the second his gaze landed on the hospital mattress. Alistair was convulsing in a bloody state, dark crimson staining the white sheets, while the medical monitors shrieked in warning of total systemic failure.

Kaelen frowned, his eyes narrowing at the catastrophic scene. "Did I not clearly instruct you to leave those needles alone?" his voice cut through the blaring alarms, stoic yet laced with a biting edge. "Why was I ignored?"

Seeing a convenient scapegoat standing right in front of him, Dr. Brenner broke free from Valeria’s grip and charged at Kaelen. He grabbed the young man's arm, his fingers digging tight into the fabric of the sleeve. "You did this!" Brenner shouted, spit flying from his pale lips. "You placed those dangerous needles in the first place! Your stupid needling sent Old Mr. Sinclair into critical condition! You hold the blame for this fatal crisis!"

Kaelen did not flinch or pull away. He simply raised a singular eyebrow, glancing down at the doctor’s trembling, sweaty hands. "Am I right to presume that you were the one who actually removed them?"

"So what if I did?" Brenner retorted, puffing out his chest even as his voice wavered.

"Nothing much," Kaelen replied with cold, biting sarcasm. "I am just a little curious. How did you ever manage to become a doctor when you are so unskilled and irresponsible?"

"You little—"

Before Brenner could finish his sentence, Valeria shoved the stammering doctor aside. Her push carried so much desperate force that Brenner stumbled across the room and nearly crashed onto the hard hospital floor. She did not spare him a second glance. She rushed to stand before Kaelen, her face a portrait of sheer desperation.

"Mr. Vance, please," Valeria begged, reaching out to grasp his hands. Tears welled in her eyes. "We have no time left. You have to save my dying grandfather!"

Dr. Brenner scrambled to his feet, adjusting his crooked glasses. "Ms. Sinclair, the boy is a conman! Do not let him scam you!" He pointed a trembling finger at Kaelen. "And you! A word of warning. Old Mr. Sinclair is a man of massive influence. If you touch him and fail to save him, you will invite severe, deadly consequences upon yourself."

Kaelen’s patience snapped. He shook his head, pulling his hands free from Valeria’s grasp. He turned toward the heavy wooden doors, his posture dismissive. "If that is the case, I will not treat the old man. You can all deal with his corpse yourselves."

Panic surged through Valeria at the thought of losing their only hope. She spun around and delivered a thunderous, resounding slap across Dr. Brenner’s cheek. The sharp crack echoed through the spacious ward, leaving a bright red handprint blooming on his skin.

"Shut your mouth!" she roared at the stunned doctor, her chest heaving.

Her fierce expression melted back into a desperate plea as she turned toward Kaelen again. "Please, Mr. Vance. Ignore him. I promise you, if you pull my grandfather back from the brink, the formidable Sinclair family will owe you a massive, life-altering favor. I swear it on my name."

Kaelen paused with his hand hovering over the door handle. He let out a long breath, stepping back toward the chaotic bedside. "I will try," he said, his tone heavy with gravity. "But the disruption caused the toxin to mutate. It is far more aggressive now. Basic acupuncture will not cure him anymore. I require something specific."

"Whatever you need," Valeria promised without hesitation. "Just name it."

"I need exactly a quarter pound of caterpillars, a quarter pound of spiders, and a quarter pound of cockroaches," Kaelen stated, his expression deadpan. "Deep fry all of them and seal the mixture tightly in an airtight container."

Cecilia’s face scrunched up in visible disgust. "What? Why do you need those grotesque things? That is stomach-churning!"

Valeria shot her sister a lethal glare. "Stop complaining and go! Find those items now!"

Realizing she had no other choice, Cecilia swallowed her bile. She spun on her heels and frantically hurried out of the ward, signaling her elite bodyguards to follow her into the city’s grimy underbelly to procure the horrific mixture.

Time dragged in agonizing seconds. The monitors beeped in a frantic rhythm, tracking the fleeting life in Alistair's veins. Soon, the doors burst open. Cecilia rushed back inside, clutching a sealed plastic container. She looked pale, holding it at arm's length as she handed it over to her sister.

"Ms. Sinclair, wait until I finish the treatment," Kaelen instructed. "Then open that container near his nose and mouth."

"Understood," Valeria nodded, clutching the plastic box tightly against her chest.

Kaelen stepped up to the blood-soaked bed. He retrieved his leather roll of silver needles and took a deep, steadying breath. His gaze sharpened into laser focus. He was about to initiate the treatment, utilizing the long-lost, energy-draining ancient art of Miracle Needling.

His fingers moved in a calculated blur. He drove the first silver needle deep into Alistair’s lower abdomen. A faint hum of internal energy transferred from his fingertips into the metal. Without pausing, he placed the second needle just above the first. Then a third. He meticulously forced the needles upward in a rigid, straight line leading toward the chest.

With every agonizing insertion, Alistair’s pale, blackened skin reacted. The flesh bulged outward. It rippled underneath the surface, tracking the line of needles exactly as if something massive and alive were frantically crawling beneath his skin. The grotesque movement under the skin sent chills down the spines of everyone watching.

Sweat beaded on Kaelen’s forehead, dripping down his jawline. The physical toll of forcing his internal energy through the needles was immense, draining his strength with each precise strike. His chest heaved with measured breaths, his focus absolute.

Standing near the monitors, Dr. Brenner scoffed. He pressed an ice pack to his swollen cheek and sneered at the display. "What unscientific crap," he muttered loudly, rolling his eyes. "Ancient acupuncture is just parlor tricks. You are making a fool of yourself."

The other elite hospital doctors in the room murmured their firm agreement. They crossed their arms, harboring zero faith in this alternative medicine, silently waiting for the young man to fail and take the fall.

Ignoring the peanut gallery, Kaelen pushed his aching muscles to their limit. He forced the final, decisive needle into the hollow near Alistair’s throat. Exhausted and drenched in sweat, Kaelen stepped back from the bed, his chest rising and falling heavily.

"Ms. Sinclair," he breathed out. "The container. Now."

Valeria scrambled forward. She twisted the lid off the airtight container and held it right next to Alistair’s pale face.

The moment the seal broke, a pungent, rotting smell flooded the entire VIP room. It smelled like charred flesh mixed with sickening decay. The elite doctors pinched their noses, coughing in revulsion.

Dr. Brenner laughed a short, mocking bark. "This is absurd! Do you genuinely believe a box of fried insects can bring a dead man back to life? You are delusional. I swear right now, if you actually succeed with this garbage, I will personally eat that entire container of bugs!"

Kaelen wiped the sweat from his brow, a light smirk playing on his lips. "Just because you are incompetent," he replied, breathless but steady, "it does not mean others are."

Right as the words left his mouth, a sickening sound emerged from the bed. Alistair’s tightly clamped jaw abruptly parted for the very first time in days. A wet, clicking noise echoed from deep within his throat.

Then, a massive, horrific black centipede slithered rapidly out from the depths of the old man’s mouth. Its countless legs scrambled over Alistair's cracked lips, lured purely by the potent scent of the remedy. The venomous creature plunged headfirst into the plastic container, burying itself in the deep-fried bugs to ravenously feast.

The room instantly erupted into horrified, collective gasps. The arrogant medical staff stumbled backward, their eyes wide with profound shock at the impossible sight.

Cecilia took one look at the nightmarish, grotesque scene, clutched her stomach, and doubled over. She vomited her lunch straight onto the sterile hospital floor, gagging helplessly.

Before anyone could fully process the extraction of the venomous parasite, a loud, raspy cough forcefully echoed from the hospital bed. Alistair Sinclair took a deep, shuddering breath, and slowly fluttered his eyes open.
