Exposing the Charade

Tristan ground his teeth together, the muscles in his jaw ticking with mounting tension. A dark, smoldering fire of irritation blazed in his eyes, wiping away his usual easygoing demeanor. He loomed over her, utilizing his imposing height to force her into submission in the middle of the bright, echoing hospital corridor.

"Nadia, must you insist on making a scene?" he bit out, his tone carrying a heavy, impatient warning that demanded immediate obedience.

Camille did not shrink back a single inch. She squared her shoulders, meeting his furious, oppressive gaze with unyielding, impenetrable steel.

"Tristan, all I want is to definitively prove my own innocence. In your heavily biased eyes, exactly when did seeking the objective truth suddenly become synonymous with making a scene?" she asked. Her voice remained deadly calm, cutting through his misplaced anger like a precision blade.

Suffocating panic flickered rapidly through Talia’s wide eyes at the direct mention of undeniable video proof. She knew the hospital camera caught her deliberate act. Her knuckles turned stark white as she clung tighter to Tristan's strong arm. She adjusted her strategy on the fly, hiding her desperate fear behind a well-crafted mask of fragility. Little Leo squirmed against her chest, whining softly as her grip tightened.

Talia looked at Camille with tear-filled eyes. "Nadia, I am so sorry. It all happened so fast, I simply stumbled. Please, do not be angry over a silly accident," she whispered in a sickeningly sweet, practiced tone of pitiful contrition.

Camille felt a wave of profound repulsion at the pathetic display. She refused to accept this flimsy excuse meant to sweep the malicious frame-up under the rug.

"Your little stumble just conveniently convinced Tristan that I am a vicious attacker at fault. I refuse to accept your pathetic apology," Camille retorted with biting, surgical mockery.

She wasted no more time on the lying couple. Camille pulled out her phone and dialed a familiar number.

"Gareth, intercept and retrieve the first-floor security footage from the hospital's control room. Bring it to me right now," she commanded in a sharp, non-negotiable tone.

Hearing the strict order, Talia burst into fresh, frantic tears.

"Nadia, why are you being so aggressive and unforgiving about a mistake?" she accused, her voice trembling with manufactured distress.

Camille fired right back without missing a beat, her eyes flashing with dangerous intent. "When you were busy maliciously throwing yourself to the floor to set me up for a crime, why didn't you stop to call your own actions vicious? I am done playing the meek, compliant woman for the Harrington family."

Mere minutes later, the heavy sound of purposeful footsteps echoed down the hall. Gareth arrived, his towering figure looking imposing in the sterile corridor. He stopped beside Camille, directing a chilling hostility and a fierce protective stance toward Tristan. Gareth handed a tablet to Camille with the high-definition video file already queued up.

Camille gave the crystal-clear footage a brief, clinical review. She tapped the screen a few times, forwarding the video file directly to Tristan’s personal phone.

"See for yourself, Tristan. Your precious, delicate woman is the truly vicious one. She is a woman so pathologically desperate to frame an innocent person that she would risk cracking her own infant child's skull on a tile floor," Camille said, her voice dripping with ice-edged contempt.

Tristan barely registered the chime of the incoming file on his phone. His dark, territorial attention remained locked onto Gareth's towering presence. He noticed the stranger's chilling demeanor and the protective stance he took beside his ex-wife. His ego flared hot in his chest. He opened his mouth to demand exactly who this rival man was and what his relationship with Nadia entailed.

Camille did not give him the chance to speak. She had delivered the truth and had zero interest in his reaction. She turned sharply on her heel.

Suddenly, the distressed child struggling in Talia's arms burst into loud, hiccupping, desperate sobs that echoed down the hall. Little Leo’s tiny, frantic hands reached out into the empty air, grasping blindly toward Camille's retreating back as if begging her to stay.

That heartbreaking sight and sound tore through Camille’s composed facade. The raw, searing, unhealed wound of her own lost, precious son ripped open inside her chest. Her breathing turned ragged as she battled a sudden wave of agonizing grief. She blinked hard, forcing back her burning tears with sheer willpower. Camille hardened her resolve, forcing her legs to move. She strode away down the corridor alongside Gareth without looking back.

Talia watched her retreat. The false tears evaporated from her eyes in a flash. A swelling, venomous hatred replaced her pitiful act, twisting her beautiful features into a silent, lethal vow. Nadia had to die, and soon.

The heavy metal doors of the elevator slid shut, taking Camille and Gareth out of sight. Tristan let out a frustrated breath. He finally looked down at the glowing screen of his phone and tapped the video file.

The high-definition footage was unequivocal. It clearly showed Camille standing still with her hands at her sides. It vividly displayed Talia deliberately, forcefully throwing her own body backward into empty space with zero physical contact from Camille.

A sharp, incredibly painful pang of guilt pierced Tristan’s chest. His mind flashed back to the memory of Camille’s clear, icy, unyielding eyes just moments before. She bore an objective truth he had arrogantly, blindly refused to believe, and he had punished her for it without a second thought.

Tristan slowly turned the glowing screen of the phone toward the visibly trembling, pale woman standing right beside him. His expression darkened into something terrifying.

"You were the one who fell. Why on earth did you explicitly say Nadia pushed you?" he demanded, his voice dropping into a low, dangerously quiet register that promised severe consequences.
