The Price of Survival

Ale’s POV

I blinked in pure, stunned disbelief at the sight of my aunt standing in the doorway. The harsh, bright lights of the penthouse cast long shadows across her face, highlighting her disheveled hair and wrinkled silk blouse. It was a jarring contrast to her usual immaculate elegance.

“Aunt Vittoria? What are you doing here? How did you find me?” I gasped out the questions, desperate for any shred of salvation.

I rushed forward across the cold hardwood floor without waiting for a single answer. I threw my arms around Vittoria's trembling frame, clinging to her with every ounce of desperate strength I possessed. For a fleeting second, she held me. I buried my face in her shoulder, breathing in her familiar scent, praying to God she had come to pull me out of this nightmare.

Then, her arms dropped from my body.

She stepped backward, creating a sudden distance between us. She treated me as if I were holding a contagious and unwanted disease she needed to avoid.

“Rocco’s men brought me here.” Her voice was unnervingly steady.

I frowned, my chest tightening with immediate confusion. “Why would they bring you to this place?”

Vittoria stepped closer again. She placed a hand gently on my arm, treating me like a wild animal she needed to pacify. “Ale. Listen to me. Calm down. Everything is going to be fine.”

I ripped my arm away from her touch and staggered back. “No. It is not going to be fine! I need to get out of here right now.”

My chest constricted until I could barely draw breath. My hands shook as I stared at her, pleading with my eyes.

“Back at Marcello’s underground club, we made a promise,” I urged, frantic to remind her. “We agreed that if we just secured our twenty percent cut of the auction money, we would take the cash, disappear into the night, and start over somewhere new. We can still do that!”

Vittoria’s eyes dropped to the floor. A sudden, heavy guilt flashed across her aging features, aggressively tightening my chest.

“Oh, child,” she murmured, her voice cracking for just a moment. “How I wish we could. But you are far too naïve for believing in that fantasy.”

My heart sank like a stone in cold water. “Why not? Rocco said Dad might still be alive. If that is true, then we should be out there looking for him right now. He could be hurt and bleeding somewhere. He could need us to save him.”

Her face softened with a sickening layer of pity rather than hope.

“If by some miracle your father is still breathing, he is hiding in the shadows,” Vittoria said slowly. “Because even Silvano knows those monstrous men do not leave debts unpaid.”

I stared at her in sheer disbelief. “So that is your grand plan? You want me to just give up and surrender? Do you not care about me anymore?”

Vittoria reached out and tucked a strand of hair behind my ear. It was the exact same comforting gesture she used when I was a little girl waking up from terrible nightmares.

“My sweet Ale. Of course I care about you. But we do not have a choice in this matter. Rocco is offering you something no one else ever will. Protection. Security. A home. He will settle all your father’s outstanding debts. You will want for nothing as his mistress.”

My mouth fell open. My own flesh and blood had grown heartless overnight.

“You will get used to it,” Vittoria added, her tone shifting into a cold, rehearsed rhythm. “He is a handsome man. He is strong. He is much better than half the disgusting men who could have won you at that auction.”

“You are not hearing yourself right now.” The words choked their way out of my tight throat.

Vittoria's tone sharpened into a harsh, unforgiving warning. She stepped into my personal space, forcing me to look directly into her eyes.

“This is the brutal reality of the mafia world, Ale. Either you immediately accept Rocco’s offer of physical protection by signing that contract, or he will cast us both out into the street. Your father’s bloodthirsty enemies are waiting out there. Do you think Silvano's monstrous creditors will offer you contracts and polite negotiations?”

She did not stop. In a brutal twist, she systematically shattered every single ounce of hope I had left, parroting the exact same vile, graphic threats Rocco had used to terrify me earlier.

“They will drag you down into a dark, filthy basement where no one can hear you scream. They will strip you naked and tie your wrists and ankles down to a dirty mattress. Then they will take turns brutally violating your body, forcing their cocks deep inside your cunt and mouth one after another until you are bruised and bleeding. They will not stop until you are broken. And when they are finally finished raping you, they will chop you up with a meat cleaver to sell you off in bloody pieces to the highest bidder.”

My breath caught in my throat.

I staggered backward in raw disgust. She was repeating Rocco's exact words. The horrifying truth dawned on me in a sickening wave. Vittoria had not come to orchestrate a rescue mission. Rocco deliberately brought her here as a psychological weapon to break my rebellious spirit before he even had to lift a finger.

Vittoria continued her cruel lecture. “You cannot afford to fight him. You have always possessed this defiant spirit, always believing that women had a choice. But women in this life do not get to make choices. We only get assigned to men.”

She reached out, grabbed my hand, and coldly stroked my palm with her thumb.

“Be his. Focus only on pleasing Rocco. Submit your body to him without resistance. Give him what he wants in bed, and you might even begin to physically enjoy his dominance. Men like Rocco take what they desire, but they are not always cruel about it.”

I snatched my hand away from hers, my stomach rolling with intense nausea. She had just suggested I should learn to enjoy being fucked by a monster. She had become a shell of a woman with zero conscience.

Right on cue, the heavy steel door swung open.

Vittoria flinched and stepped out of the way. Rocco stepped back into the room, exuding the suffocating presence of a dark storm wrapped in human skin. I hated the way my pulse reacted to his towering frame. He carried a terrifying aura of raw power and heat that scrambled my senses. The sharp scent of his expensive cologne mixed with the faint metallic tang of violence hit my nose, reminding me exactly who I was dealing with. He was a predator, and I was trapped in his cage.

He coolly observed the shattered dynamic between my aunt and me.

“That speech was convincing enough. I am sure she understands her position now,” Rocco stated.

Vittoria turned her back to him and faced me one last time. She leaned in and pressed a sickeningly fake kiss to my forehead.

“Remember everything I said, Ale. Use what you have. Get what you can. Just survive.” She whispered the final command against my skin.

With that, Vittoria turned her back on me and walked out the door, abandoning me to the monster.

Rocco seamlessly took control of the room. He walked toward me, grabbed my arm, and forcefully guided me back to the heavy desk where the dark Mistress Contract lay waiting.

“Are you finally ready to sign this?” he demanded, his deep voice slicing through the heavy silence.

I stared down at the piece of paper. The thick black ink formed paragraphs of legal jargon that all meant the exact same thing. Ownership. This document would permanently sign away my physical freedom, my bodily autonomy, and my free will. Every word printed on that page was an iron chain meant to bind my wrists and throat to this mafia boss. If I signed it, I would become nothing more than property.

A desperate, glowing spark of pure defiance flared back to life inside my chest. I refused to just lay down and submit to my own destruction.

I deliberately dropped the expensive metal pen onto the desk. It landed with a sharp clatter that echoed loudly through the tense room.

I lifted my chin, staring directly into Rocco’s burning grey eyes. “If I am going to sign my life away to you, I demand one thing in return.”

Rocco’s expression instantly turned to unyielding steel. His patience was visibly wearing thin.

“I am paying off your father’s massive debt. I am offering you physical protection and the finest provisions life has to offer. And you have the audacity to want more?” he asked coldly.

“I want the right to go back to college and physically finish my final year to get my degree,” I answered, ignoring his icy glare. “I already started my degree in Business Management. This is my final year, and I want to finish it.”

Rocco flatly refused without a second of hesitation. “No. That is not happening.”

“Why not?”

“If you sign this contract, you officially give up your freedom. That includes where you go, who you see, and what you do. Attending college gives you a blatant opportunity to run and disappear from my supervision.”

“But your men would find me anyway. You told me yourself that there is no escaping you.”

Rocco leaned over the desk, invading my space with his massive shoulders.

“Spending hours away from my direct supervision is a security risk. No eyes on you. You could slip away in a crowd, and we both know you would try.”

I searched deep inside my soul for a courage I did not even know I possessed. My hands were shaking, but I forced myself to move. I slowly reached out my trembling hand and directly covered Rocco’s large, calloused hand with my own.

His eyes darted down to our touching fingers in sheer surprise. I was just as shocked by my own bold movement, but I kept my palm pressed firmly against his warm skin.

Hot tears breached my eyelashes, spilling over and tracking wet paths down my pale cheeks.

“I need this degree,” I begged softly, letting the raw desperation bleed into my voice. “It has been my dream since I was little. I just wanted to prove my father wrong. To take over his company one day and make something of myself in a world that constantly tells women to sit down and be quiet.”

I took a shaky breath, maintaining eye contact with him.

“Imagine if I were your own daughter,” I whispered, staring up into his hardened, handsome face. “Imagine if she were stripped of everything she knew and loved in one single night. Would you not want your daughter to keep the one single thing she worked so hard for?”

For a long moment, the air in the room stood dead still.

A raw, incredibly complex wave of emotion flashed rapidly across Rocco’s hardened features. The specific word 'daughter' clearly unlocked some hidden, painful memory deeply buried within his chest. His jaw clenched tight, and the fierce storm in his eyes momentarily dimmed into something resembling grief.

His voice dropped low, rumbling with a heavy reluctance when he finally broke the silence.

“I will have my lawyers officially add the college clause to the contract. But it will be strictly under my heavily guarded conditions. Do you understand me?”

I breathed a massive sigh of relief. My shoulders slumped as the tension drained out of my spine.

“Yes. Thank you,” I whispered.

I suddenly became hyper-aware of my body. My soft hand was still resting intimately on top of his large, rough knuckles. The heat radiating from his skin sent a strange, dangerous current traveling up my arm.

Before I could even attempt to pull my fingers away, Rocco moved.

His hand snapped over mine with blinding speed. He forcefully wrapped his strong fingers around my fragile wrist, his grip like a steel vice. He aggressively yanked my body forward, pulling me hard against his solid, muscular chest. The impact knocked the breath straight out of my lungs.

“We will finalize the legalities of the contract in the coming days,” he commanded, his dark voice vibrating against my crushed breasts.

Before I could process his words, the floor vanished beneath my feet.

Without a single second of warning, Rocco forcefully hoisted me effortlessly over his broad shoulder as if I weighed nothing at all. The blood rushed straight to my head as I dangled upside down against his solid back.

“What are you doing? Put me down!” I loudly gasped, thrashing my legs against his side in a useless, frantic panic.

Rocco’s dark voice rumbled against my ribs, thick with a terrifying, primal promise.

“It is finally time I claimed exactly what I own.”

And just like that, the fleeting, fragile illusion of mercy and humanity I thought I had just witnessed vanished into thin air. He tightened his massive arm around the back of my thighs, locking me in place. The ruthless mafia king had returned, and he was taking me away to physically claim my body.
