Vanished at Dawn

Sunlight stabbed through the narrow gap in the heavy velvet curtains, striking Chiara’s face. She blinked her swollen eyes and gasped as a raw, agonizing pain radiated through her lower body. Her vagina burned, bruised and stretched from the relentless thrusts she had endured throughout the night. The lingering soreness between her thighs was a brutal, punishing reminder of the drug-fueled haze. Her mind spun in wild confusion, struggling to piece together the blurred memories of sweat and skin. She turned her head against the soft silk pillow. A strange man lay asleep beside her. His broad, naked back rose and fell in a steady, even rhythm.

A suffocating wave of shame crashed over her chest, crushing the breath from her lungs. She pulled the white sheet tightly over her bare breasts, trembling. The chemical fire in her veins had faded, leaving behind the horrifying reality of her reckless actions. Today was supposed to be her perfect wedding day. Valerio, the man she loved with all her heart, was supposed to be waiting for her at the altar, smiling in his tailored tuxedo. Instead, she had given her body to a faceless stranger in a dark hotel room.

She carefully slid off the edge of the large mattress, biting her lower lip to stifle a painful cry as her bare feet hit the cold floor. Her legs shook under her weight. She grabbed her torn silk gown from the carpet and pulled it over her battered body. Panic seized her throat. She could not face Valerio. She could never look him in the eyes again after dirtying herself.

She snatched her high heels and rushed out of room 405. She ran down the long, empty hotel corridor, the plush carpet muffling her frantic footsteps. She vowed to never return to the city that had just witnessed her ultimate ruin.

Late that afternoon, the heavy oak door of room 405 creaked open. Dario stirred from his deep sleep, his head throbbing with a dull ache from the spiked alcohol.

"Stay out. She is resting." Dario commanded in a rough, sleep-heavy voice.

He reached his arm across the bed to pull the woman against his chest, but his hand met empty space. His eyes snapped open, adjusting to the dim light filtering through the sheer curtains. He sat up against the padded headboard. The space beside him was vacant. His gaze dropped to the mattress. A stark crimson stain smeared the white sheets, standing out like a fresh, undeniable wound against the pristine fabric.

Virgin blood.

A sharp pang of guilt hit his chest like a physical blow. He had taken a virgin's innocence. The alcohol and the drugs had clouded his judgment, stripping away his restraint, but he should have noticed. He had blatantly disrespected her untouched body. He closed his eyes, trying to picture her face, but his memory remained a hazy, fragmented blur. Only the soothing warmth of her bare, delicate skin and the soft, breathless sound of her voice lingered in his mind, haunting him.

His assistant, Marco, stepped into the room and bowed his head. Two massive bodyguards flanked him in the hallway.

"We did not discover any security footage, boss. Someone tampered with the control room and erased the woman's identity. There was also a wedding held in the banquet hall yesterday, and a massive scandal occurred." Marco swallowed hard, his throat bobbing as he glanced nervously at the crimson stain on the unmade bed before locking his eyes firmly on the floor. "I learned that the bride eloped with another man right before the ceremony."

Dario's expression turned icy cold, freezing the air in the room. He reached for his silver lighter and a fresh cigarette from the mahogany nightstand. He placed the cigarette between his lips and lit it, inhaling deeply until the tip glowed red. He stood up from the bed, naked and unbothered by his lack of clothing, and paced the carpeted floor with lethal grace. Thick gray smoke curled around his hardened, chiseled jaw.

"How will this information benefit me? I want a name, not worthless gossip." Dario exhaled a cloud of smoke, his raspy voice dropping to a lethal octave that made the men shiver.

"We apologize. We could not gather any concrete leads on her identity." Marco and the bodyguards lowered their heads in terror.

"Find her. Search the entire underworld if you must." Dario stopped pacing and glared at his trembling subordinates, his dark eyes promising sudden death. "Do not stop your investigation, or I will stop your breathing."

The bodyguards paled and scrambled out of the room to execute his lethal orders.

Chiara sat on the cold hardwood floor of her locked bedroom, sobbing into her hands. Her entire life was a ruined mess. She felt filthy, broken, and unworthy of staying under this roof for another minute.

She wiped her red, swollen eyes with her wrists and forced herself to stand up. She pulled a large leather suitcase from the dusty back of her closet and threw it onto the mattress. She packed her passport, her identification cards, and a few essential items of clothing. She had to escape before the disastrous news broke out. She had to disappear into the shadows and start over somewhere far away.

The bedroom door clicked and swung open. Her stepsister, Elena, strolled into the room. A victorious, mocking smirk played on Elena's glossy lips as she surveyed the packed suitcase.

"My dear sister. Where are you going in such a rush? You did not even show up at your wedding venue. You let poor Valerio down." Elena leaned against the wooden doorframe, crossing her slender arms over her chest, savoring the sight of her broken sister.

Elena walked further into the room and plopped down onto the velvet accent chair near the window.

"How was your night of debauchery? Tell me, exactly how much fun did you have?" Elena asked with a casual, taunting tone.

The floor seemed to collapse beneath Chiara's feet. Her breath hitched in her throat. She stared at Elena, her heart hammering wildly against her ribs.

"What do you mean by that?" Chiara asked hoarsely, dread pooling in her stomach.

Before Elena could answer, heavy footsteps echoed in the hallway. Chiara's stepmother walked into the bedroom. Her face, which usually wore a warm and loving smile, was now twisted with raw venom.

"You bring shame to our family name. Why didn't you just die in the streets? If I were you, I would drink poison right now." The older woman spat the cruel insults, staring at Chiara with undisguised disgust.

Chiara froze in place. This was the woman she had respected and adored for years. She had surrendered her biological mother's precious vintage jewelry just to make her stepmother happy.

"Mother." Chiara whimpered in deep anguish, her chest tightening.

"Do not address me as your mother! I do not want to hear that word coming out of a whore's mouth. I suppose it is not so hard to believe your behavior, considering your dead mother's cheap blood runs through your veins." Her stepmother sneered, her tone dripping with malice as she insulted the woman who had brought Chiara into this world.

Grief shattered, replaced instantly by a blinding, white-hot fury. Chiara clenched her fists so hard her nails bit into her palms. She could not let them insult her late mother. She lunged forward to strike the older woman across the face.

Elena jumped up from the chair and shoved Chiara back by her shoulders, blocking her path with a forceful push.

"Don't even try to touch my mother. One phone call, and I will have the media here in seconds to broadcast your shame to the whole country." Elena grabbed her smartphone from her designer bag and waved it in the air like a weapon.

Heartbroken and shaking with rage, Chiara glared at the two women who had just revealed their true, monstrous faces.

"You orchestrated this vile nightmare, didn't you? You framed me! Why? We are supposed to be family!" Chiara demanded, her voice cracking under the weight of crushing betrayal.

Elena let out a short, cold laugh.

"Because I want Valerio, and my mother wants your father's money. We overheard him talking to his lawyers a few days ago in his private study. He transferred half of his vast property into your name. We refuse to let those massive assets slip away into your hands." Elena confessed openly, a wicked, greedy gleam in her eyes. The stepmother stood behind her, nodding with a satisfied smirk.

Chiara felt sick to her stomach, bile rising in her throat. She pointed a trembling finger at the two monsters standing before her.

"I will not spare you for this. I will go to my father right now and tell him everything you have done!" Chiara swore, refusing to be cast aside like trash.

Elena's cruel, triumphant laughter erupted like a dark wave, echoing off the bedroom walls. It shattered Chiara's remaining defiance in an instant. Elena held up her phone, tapping the bright screen.

"Haha! You fool. We have a video of you banging with a guy on your wedding day. Do you want to see it?"
