The Butler's Confession

"Who are you?" Questa demanded. Her voice shrilled through the grand hall, cutting through the heavy silence. She gripped her diamond-encrusted designer bracelet, her polished nails digging so deep into her own skin that angry red marks formed. The sheer, murderous aura radiating from the unfamiliar man standing before her sent a wave of terror straight to her palms. Her skin turned ice-cold. She had attended hundreds of elite banquets across Maris Haven, yet she had never crossed paths with a man who commanded a massive room with just a simple glance.

Kaelen stepped up to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with his mother-in-law. He narrowed his dark eyes into dangerous slits, scanning the imposing figure in the tailored suit from head to toe. "And you are?"

"You don't need to know who I am." The stranger's voice remained effortless. It rolled over the silent crowd, slow and dripping with lazy disdain. "The only real issue at hand is whether Lady Nara was abused, isn't it?"

A heavy thud of boots echoed from the grand hall entrance. Security guards marched into the venue in a tight formation, escorting the terrified Vance household butler down the center aisle. The camera shutters resumed their rapid clicking. Instantly, the entire room's attention snapped away from the imposing stranger and locked onto the aging servant.

Shaya felt the blood drain from her face, leaving her pale and shaking. She stomped her designer heel against the marble floor and thrust a trembling finger at the man who had served her family for decades.

"You work for my family! Don't you dare betray us just because someone waved a massive bribe in your face to ruin my life!" Shaya yelled. She launched into the vicious attack, her chest heaving, trying to silence him before he even reached the front of the room.

The aging butler planted his feet near the stage. He ignored her pointing finger and faced the sea of flashing cameras. He clenched his fists at his sides, his weathered face flushed red and his aging frame shaking with intense rage.

"Shaya, you threatened my young son's life to force my silence and servitude!" The butler yelled back, tears brimming in his eyes. "Five years ago, I stood by and watched you whip Lady Nara in the basement with my own eyes. I swear on my life, everything in that video is the truth! You could not handle your deep-seated resentment over living in poverty for eighteen years. You locked Lady Nara away to torture her for your own sick pleasure, and your parents gave their blessing. If she had not escaped when she did, she would be dead."

Questa rushed forward, her chest heaving with desperate breaths. Her perfect high-society mask shattered into pieces. She pointed an accusatory finger at the butler.

"Liar! You have always favored Nara! You are having a secret, disgusting affair with her, and that is why you are here to discredit my daughter's reputation!" Questa shouted.

A soft, icy laugh broke through the tense silence. It came from the suited stranger. The sound held zero warmth, freezing the blood of every reporter and socialite standing in the room.

"In that case, why don't we show everyone a bit of the Vance Household's daily life?" The man suggested. He tilted his head, flashing a lethal smirk.

He raised one hand and gave a sharp snap of his fingers.

The massive display screen behind the stage flickered to life. High-definition surveillance footage forcefully overrode the pristine Kardos Global logo. The screen split into multiple clips, revealing the seemingly perfect Vance family lounging in their opulent living room.

"That little bitch Nara. I swear, I'm gonna make her suffer eighteen years to pay me back."

Shaya's face filled the giant screen. Her delicate features twisted into a hateful sneer as she spat the cruel words out.

The camera cut to a new angle, showing Questa sitting on a velvet sofa, sipping from a delicate porcelain teacup.

"If hurting her makes you happy, then do it. She lived off our family for eighteen years. Her pathetic existence hasn't been a waste if it repays that debt." Questa's voice echoed through the venue, flat and chilling in its casual cruelty.

Jorgan Vance sat beside them in the footage, casually flipping through a daily newspaper. He said nothing, silently endorsing the nightmare unfolding under his roof.

The grand hall erupted. The polite, confused murmurs of high society swelled into a deafening storm of outrage. Reporters shouted over one another, pointing their heavy cameras at the Vance family on the stage.

"Are they insane? You don't treat a stray dog like that!"

"They raised her for eighteen years just to torture her?"

"Nara is lucky she made it out alive."

Shaya began to hyperventilate. The confident, victimized façade she had built for the press crumbled into blind panic. She lunged for Kaelen, her fingers digging frantically into his tailored suit jacket, trying to find an anchor in the chaos.

"Kaelen, it's not true! Please, you have to believe me! I would never do that!" Shaya sobbed, her words spilling out in wild, incoherent denials.

Kaelen's mind raced. His chest tightened as a vivid memory crashed into his thoughts. He remembered Nara's bare back in the dim light of his bedroom. He remembered the horrific, infected scars marring her pale skin. He remembered the grim look on the private doctor's face five years ago, explaining how the deep wounds had been scrubbed with raw sea salt. The doctor had warned him the infection nearly killed her, and the thick scars would never fade without extensive skin grafts. He looked at the giant screen, then back at Shaya. The horrific injuries matched the hateful words echoing through the stage speakers.

He grabbed Shaya by the shoulders, his grip tight enough to bruise her delicate skin.

"Tell me the truth right now. Did you do this?" Kaelen demanded, his voice shaking with physical rage.

Shaya looked up at him. Massive tears spilled down her flushed cheeks, ruining her perfect makeup.

"I didn't! Kaelen, how could you ever believe I am capable of such cruelty?" Shaya pleaded, her voice cracking under the pressure.

Kaelen stared at her sobbing face. He wavered. His mind viciously rejected the horrific reality playing on the screen above them. The woman crying in his arms was the same woman who had selflessly donated a rib to save his life five years ago when no one else would step up. He convinced himself a monster could not do something so brave. Shaya could not be a monster. She just couldn't be.

He released her shoulders and took a deliberate step forward. He used his broad frame to physically shield Shaya from the relentless barrage of camera flashes. His gaze turned to solid ice as he locked eyes with Nara.

"Nara, what the hell are you trying to pull?" Kaelen demanded. His voice carried a ruthless order. "This is Kardos Global's product launch, not your personal stage. Leave immediately."

Nara stood frozen, staring at the man standing just a few feet away. Her heart turned to ash in her chest. The man who had once held her in the dark, who had traced those hideous scars and vowed to burn the world to avenge her pain, was gone. He had died the exact day he secretly married Shaya.

Before Nara could open her mouth to speak, the stranger interjected. He stood tall, casually adjusting his crisp suit cuff to reveal a flash of ink.

"Sir Kardos, I have already sent all the unedited footage directly to the police." The man announced his move to the shocked room, his tone relaxed but firm.

Kaelen's jaw clenched tight. "Who are you to interfere in our event? Why are you even here?"

The man smiled like a predator observing cornered prey.

"Just a nobody who cannot stand watching injustice. Since you are so proud of this launch, let's verify something else. We should check whether Lady Shaya is truly the genius designer Aura."

The crowd buzzed with a fresh wave of electric shock. The reporters shoved their recording devices higher into the air, desperate to capture every word.

"Did he just say Shaya isn't Aura?"

"But Sir Kardos confirmed it himself!"

Kaelen's handsome expression twisted into a mask of pure panic and rage. His mind spun out of control. He knew he could handle the abuse scandal. He had the money and power to bury a dark story about Nara's scars. He could pay massive settlements, hire the best crisis management teams, and buy the media's silence. But if Shaya was publicly exposed as a massive fraud, his precious Kardos Global launch would collapse into dust. His entire empire, built on the back of the Aura brand, would take a devastating hit.

He turned sharply back to Nara. He stepped close, looming over her and dropping his voice into a low, terrifyingly cold threat meant only for her ears.

"Nara, we have known each other for five years. Do you really want to take things this far? You know how hard I have worked to build this empire for this exact day. I get that you are angry. You have made your point. Now stop."

Nara held his gaze, feeling the icy draft of his words wash over her face. He was weaponizing their history to protect the woman who had tortured her.

"Don't go any further, because if you push me, I will get angry." Kaelen stated the threat with chilling certainty.

He looked down at her, confident in his control over her emotions. He knew she loved him. He knew exactly how much she feared upsetting him. After everything he had put her through, surely, she would back off and protect his launch.
