Reclaiming The Aura Identity

Nara felt her delicate wrist bones grinding together under the sheer, brutal force of Kaelen’s grip. The pressure shot sharp flares of agony up her arm, radiating into her shoulder. She stared into his face, her breath catching in her throat. He had never touched her with such unyielding cruelty. Unprecedented panic and burning anger swirled in his dark eyes, masking whatever affection used to live there. He looked at her as if she were a threat to his very existence.

She refused to back down. A slow, bitter smile curved her lips, defying the crushing pain in her arm.

She leaned in closer. Her warm breath lightly brushed against the pulse point at his throat. He stiffened, a faint tremor running through his rigid posture as her proximity broke his concentration.

"This is my launch event, Sir Kardos. After all these years hiding in the shadows, do you not think it is time I finally showed up?" she whispered with venomous calm.

Her luminous, defiant gaze unsettled him deep within his core. His jaw tightened, the muscles ticking under his skin as he struggled to maintain control of the escalating situation. His tone hardened into a ruthless order.

"It is not your time to appear yet. I will arrange it later. Go home."

Nara felt the air stall in her lungs. Even in this dark, humiliating moment, some foolish, lingering fragment of her battered heart held out hope. She prayed he might confess the truth right here, away from the prying ears of the press. She hoped he might beg her not to expose his grand lie. If he showed just a fraction of the man she thought she knew, if he offered a single shred of genuine remorse, she might have paused.

He gave her nothing. He offered only cold, suffocating authority.

"Do you truly plan to give my identity away?" she asked. A bitter, heartbroken smile touched her lips as the last pillar of her faith in him crumbled into dust.

He doubled down, his temper fraying at the edges as he glanced nervously toward the bustling crowd.

"Nara, what are you trying to do? You have never been this unreasonable. Just go home. We will talk later. I will have the driver take you."

Her voice cut straight through his darkening gaze with sheer finality.

"I am not leaving."

Nara slipped from his reach, twisting her arm just enough to break his hold. She took a deliberate half-step back, angling her body toward the center of the lavish room. She positioned herself to catch Shaya’s eye. Raising her arm, she let the venue’s brilliant overhead lights shimmer off the exquisite moonlight diamond bracelet adorning her wrist. The rare gems cast fractured beams of light across the walls.

Shaya’s expression warped into pure malice. Enraged by the sudden public humiliation and Nara’s audacity to stand so close to her legal husband, she stormed forward like an unleashed fury. Her heels clicked sharply against the marble floor.

Shaya shoved Nara back with a heavy hand, her eyes blazing with frantic jealousy.

"Nara! Today is Kardos Global's launch of the Devotion series! Why do you have that bracelet? Did you steal it?"

The accusation rang through the grand hall. Conversations halted. Reporters turned their heads, their professional instincts smelling blood in the water. Camera flashes erupted in blinding bursts, capturing every second of the escalating drama. Shaya leaned into the sudden attention, playing heavily to the hungry press.

"Let me tell you all who this woman really is. Her name is Nara. She is the fake daughter our family raised by mistake. We rightfully kicked her out of the Vance family five years ago! A broke fraud like her could never afford such a piece!" Shaya declared, ensuring her voice carried to the back rows.

She pointed a trembling finger at the exquisite jewelry on Nara’s wrist.

"She stole that diamond bracelet!"

Whispers hissed through the crowd like a rising tide. Condescending glares locked onto Nara's pearl-white gown.

Nara trembled. The mention of the Vance family dragged her mind back to the near-fatal whip scars she earned in that very house. The memory of the thick leather tearing her flesh apart burned down her spine like phantom fire. Kaelen himself had once treated those exact wounds with gentle hands. He had sat by her bedside with tears in his eyes, his fingers shaking as he applied the soothing ointment to her broken skin.

She looked directly to Kaelen. She begged him without speaking to step forward. She needed him to defend her character, to tell the room she was no thief, to honor the five years they had spent building a life together.

He looked away.

He chose a cowardly, suffocating silence. He did not dare contradict his new wife in front of the flashing cameras.

Heartbroken and sickened by his profound weakness, Nara forced herself to draw a steady breath, squaring her shoulders against the crushing weight of their judgment.

"Lady Vance, accusing me of theft just because of who I used to be is a bit much. Do you have any proof of this theft? How do you know I have not made something of myself in the last five years?" Nara challenged, her voice steady and clear.

Shaya flipped her hair with triumphant pride. She scanned the captivated crowd, drinking in their rapt attention as they hung on her every word.

"You? Made a name? You want proof? Fine, I will give you proof!" Shaya proclaimed, stepping into the center of the flashing lights.

She paced a few steps in front of the reporters, ensuring every lens was focused on her.

"Everyone knows today's launch features the anticipated Devotion series. It was designed by the elusive genius, Aura. Well, let me introduce myself properly."

Shaya flashed a sweet, toxic smile and placed a hand over her heart, soaking in the impending glory.

"I am Aura. That bracelet on her wrist is my own personal design. Sir Kardos can confirm my claim."

Loud gasps and furious whispering erupted across the grand hall. The press surged forward, thrusting microphones closer to the prominent couple. Questions fired from all directions.

Nara ignored the noise. She stared only at Kaelen. She desperately needed to hear the truth from the very man who knew exactly how much she had bled, cried, and worked for those designs. She had spent countless sleepless nights perfecting the Devotion series for him, trusting him to protect her life's work.

Shaya reached out and wrapped her fingers around his arm.

"Kaelen," she murmured softly.

It was a manipulative plea. A dark reminder of her terminal illness, weaponized to secure his compliance.

Kaelen caved. He leaned toward the nearest microphone, refusing to meet Nara's gaze.

"Yes. Shaya is Aura. She has been Kardos Global's chief designer for the last five years," he confirmed, his voice echoing through the massive speakers.

Nara’s heart cracked apart. The fracture echoed in her ears, drowning out the roaring crowd. She bit down on her inner cheek until the fragile flesh tore. She tasted the sharp, metallic tang of blood pooling on her tongue. She swallowed it down, using the physical pain to fuel the raging flames rising in her chest.

Triumphant and glowing with malice, Shaya pointed a sharp finger at Nara, her eyes alight with cruel victory.

"You heard him! That bracelet is my work! Which means Nara stole it! She probably stole other designs too. Security! Strip her down on the spot and check her for other stolen goods!" Shaya ordered.

Two heavy-handed security guards lunged from the perimeter of the room. They seized Nara by the arms, their thick fingers bruising her delicate skin.

Nara struggled against their grip, twisting her shoulders, but their combined strength was overwhelming. They tackled her, sweeping her legs out from under her. They slammed her against the cold, unforgiving ground. The impact knocked the wind from her lungs.

The delicate strap of her pearl-white dress caught under a guard's heavy boot as they pinned her down.

With a sharp, sickening rip, the fabric tore apart.

The upper half of the gown fell away. Her bare back was exposed to the blinding, relentless lights of the venue. Deep, horrific, and jagged whip scars ran down the length of her spine. The raised, mutilated flesh stood out against her pale skin in stark, brutal relief, a map of unimaginable torture displayed for the entire world to witness.

A wave of horrified gasps swept through the room. Cameras stopped flashing. The reporters lowered their equipment. The sudden silence was suffocating, heavy with unadulterated shock.

Far in the back of the room, hidden amidst the deep shadows, a towering man watched the scene unfold.

He clenched his crystal wine glass. His massive hand tightened around the delicate stem. He squeezed so hard the thick crystal shattered in his grip. The sharp crack pierced the quiet air of his secluded corner, sounding like a gunshot in the tense atmosphere.

Dark crimson blood dripped from his palm. It slid over the broken glass shards embedded in his skin. The thick drops hit the floor in a steady rhythm, a red pool forming at the toe of his pristine shoes.

He felt no pain. His midnight eyes blazed with a terrifying, murderous rage that felt capable of leveling kingdoms. The temperature around him seemed to plummet, radiating a sudden, explosive aura of lethal danger.

Someone had just declared war on his territory.

The fools in the room did not even know it yet.
