A Splash of Trouble
"Don't hit me! I really can't hold my pee anymore!" Leo shrieked, squirming in the iron grasp of the towering stranger. His small hands clutched desperately at the front of his trousers. The sharp, resounding sting on his backside from the unexpected spanking was secondary to the agonizing, ballooning pressure in his bladder. He twisted his torso left and right, trying to slip out of the firm hold, but the man's arm felt like a steel band wrapped around his ribs.
Tears threatened to spill from his large, panicked eyes. His mind spun in frantic circles. Father? Why was this imposing, terrifying man aggressively claiming to be his dad? Clara had told him, firmly and repeatedly, that his father had passed away a long time ago. His dad was in heaven, resting in peace, not marching through a five-star hotel looking like a thundercloud ready to strike down anyone in his path. The sheer confusion compounded his physical misery.
"Do you understand your mistake?" Declan demanded. His deep voice rumbled against Leo’s side, vibrating through the boy's small frame.
"Yeah, yeah, I do!" Leo blurted out instantly. He had no idea what mistake the man meant, but survival instinct took over. He just needed a toilet. Right now. If agreeing with this crazy giant got him to a urinal faster, he would admit to anything.
"Will you ever dare to run off like that again?" Declan asked, his grip tightening. The anger burning in his chest was deeply rooted in unadulterated terror. When he had realized his child was wandering a massive, crowded hotel without a single bodyguard trailing him, his heart had stopped in his chest. The world outside the estate was a dangerous place. The traumatic memory of his son being kidnapped as a toddler was a permanent scar that never fully healed. He could not, would not, let history repeat itself. This level of recklessness had to be stamped out immediately.
"I won't! I promise I won't!" Leo nodded his head furiously, his mop of dark hair bouncing with the motion. "Just let me go!"
Finally appeased by the boy's verbal obedience, Declan exhaled a sharp breath. He adjusted his hold on the boy, shifting his grip to carry the squirming child securely, and marched directly toward the public restroom facilities at the far end of the corridor.
His long legs covered the distance effortlessly, his tailored shoes clicking sharply against the marble floor. But for Leo, the pace was agonizingly slow. Every step the man took jolted Leo's overfilled bladder, sending spikes of discomfort through his lower belly.
"Can you walk faster?" Leo pleaded, his voice hitting a high-pitched, desperate frequency. "Hurry up! It's coming out!"
If the man hadn't stopped him earlier to ask all those ridiculous questions and deliver a lecture, Leo might have been done already. He gripped the fabric of his trousers tighter.
Declan blatantly ignored the frantic requests. He maintained his composed, authoritative stride, even as the child wriggled like a caught fish under his arm. They pushed through the heavy wooden doors of the gleaming, marble-lined bathroom. The space was pristine, smelling faintly of expensive citrus soap and polished stone.
Declan strode past the row of gold-plated sinks and finally set the boy down on his feet.
The second Leo's sneakers hit the tiled floor, he practically dove for the nearest porcelain urinal. His little fingers fumbled frantically with the waistband of his trousers. He grabbed the small metal tab of his zipper and yanked downward with all his might.
It didn't move.
Panic, cold and sharp, set in. Leo yanked again. The fabric was caught stubbornly in the metal teeth. It was jammed tight, leaving him agonizingly stranded just inches away from relief.
"Oh no, no, no," Leo whimpered. His little legs pressed furiously together, rubbing against each other in sheer agony. He did a desperate little dance, shifting his weight rapidly from one foot to the other. He twisted his upper body around to look at the man who had dragged him here.
Declan was standing a few steps back, his arms crossed over his broad chest, waiting in silence.
"Don't just stand there!" Leo shouted, his voice cracking with urgency and unshed tears. "Help me! It's stuck!"
Declan dropped his arms. He let out a weary sigh and stepped forward. He knelt gracefully on the spotless marble floor, bringing his towering frame down to the distressed child's eye level.
His large, manicured hands reached out, brushing Leo's trembling fingers aside. Declan pinched the tiny metal zipper and carefully worked the stubborn fabric. He pulled the material taut, trying to realign the track without snapping the delicate mechanism.
Struggling with the tiny zipper, Declan finally managed to free the trapped thread. The metal teeth gave way, and he unzipped the trousers.
The very second the zipper slid down, Declan immediately launched into a stern, fatherly lecture. He kept his head lowered, focused on the boy's clothing.
"Who dressed you in this ridiculous outfit? These trousers are impractical for a child your age. Never wear this brand again..."
Leo squeezed his eyes shut. The pressure had reached its breaking point. "Sir, move aside, please!"
Before Leo could even finish speaking his warning, the dam broke.
Declan realized he had to dodge, but the realization came a fraction of a second too late.
A warm, steady stream of liquid bypassed the porcelain urinal entirely. It shot forward in a direct, unrelenting arc. Declan jerked backward, his reflexes kicking in just fast enough to spare his face from a direct hit. But his torso was firmly in the line of fire.
The warm liquid splashed heavily against his chest, soaking directly into the fine fabric of his trousers and his crisp, custom-tailored dress shirt.
Time seemed to freeze in the gleaming bathroom.
Declan knelt there on the floor, paralyzed. He felt the unmistakable, spreading warmth of the liquid seeping through the layers of expensive clothing, clinging wetly to his skin. The sound of the stream echoed loudly against the marble walls.
Leo quickly shifted his hips to the side, redirecting the rest of the stream into the porcelain bowl where it belonged. He let out a long, shuddering sigh of relief as his bladder finally emptied. The sheer, overwhelming agony vanished, replaced by a wave of unparalleled comfort.
Having finished his desperate business, Leo zipped up his trousers with ease. He turned around to face the man.
Declan was still kneeling on the floor. His features were stunned. His body was locked in a rigid state of sheer disbelief. A dark, wet patch covered the front of his pristine white shirt and trailed down the thigh of his slacks.
Leo felt a sharp pang of embarrassment heat his cheeks, but his defensive instincts flared up immediately. He crossed his arms over his chest and stuck out his chin.
"Why did you have to keep talking?" Leo demanded, putting the blame squarely on the adult. "I warned you! I told you I couldn't hold it anymore. You're the one who wouldn't move."
Declan slowly raised his head. His eyes were dark, stormy, and filled with an emotion that bordered on raw disbelief. The man's jaw was clenched so tight a muscle ticked visibly in his cheek.
Seeing the terrifying look on the man's face, Leo decided to take the diplomatic route. Displaying an odd maturity for a kid his age, the boy looked the man up and down, carefully assessing the damage to the soaked garments.
"Look, how about this?" Leo said, his tone turning crisp and businesslike. "How much are your clothes worth? Name your price. I'll pay for them."
Declan's face darkened to a tempestuous, terrifying shade. The sheer audacity of this child offering to financially compensate him made his blood boil. He gritted his teeth, his eyes narrowing into deadly slits as he hissed a single name into the quiet bathroom.
"Luke Mercer!"
Leo blinked, unimpressed and still thoroughly confused as to who this 'Luke' person was.
Declan forced himself to close his eyes and take a deep, grounding breath. He inhaled the sterile scent of the bathroom mixed with the distinct, undeniable odor of fresh urine. He mentally rationalized the situation. Fathers simply had to endure their sons' messy accidents. It was a miserable rite of passage. He remembered the infant years clearly. The very first time he had held Luke as a newborn baby, he had been greeted with a similar, warm surprise soaking through his shirt.
He told himself to be patient. Even if a son did something to annoy his father to the brink of insanity, a father had to endure it.
But patience had its limits.
Declan stood up. The wet fabric of his trousers slapped uncomfortably against his leg. His expensive, bespoke attire was now a catastrophic, revolting mixture of spilled red wine from earlier in the evening and fresh urine. He smelled atrocious. There was no way he could walk out of this restroom and face the elite society at the bash downstairs in such a state. He was a man of power and reputation; he could not be seen smelling like a public toilet.
Reaching into his dry pocket, Declan pulled out his phone. He dialed a number, his eyes glaring down at the boy.
"Get in here," Declan barked a command into the receiver. "Take my son back home. Now."
He hung up, the sharp click of the phone echoing off the walls.
Less than thirty seconds later, the heavy restroom doors swung open. Three burly bodyguards in dark suits flooded the space. They took one look at their boss's terrifying expression and sprang into action.
One of the towering men stepped forward and scooped the aggressively struggling boy up off the floor.
"Hey! What are you doing?!" Leo shouted at the top of his lungs. He kicked his legs, struggling against the thick arms holding him. "Put me down!"
The bodyguard adjusted his grip, securing the thrashing child firmly over his shoulder without hurting him.
"I peed on you by accident!" Leo argued, twisting his neck to glare back at Declan. "I said I was sorry! I apologized! I even offered you monetary compensation! Why are you having me taken away? This is an illegal kidnapping! You can't do this!"
Declan stood by the sinks, his face sour and unyielding. He ignored the boy's frantic legal arguments.
As the bodyguards maneuvered the struggling boy toward the exit, they distinctly detected the deeply unpleasant odor wafting from their boss. The acrid smell cut through the air.
The men shot cautious, sideways glances at Declan. They noticed the massive wet stain on his trousers.
Declan caught their stares. His face soured further, a dark storm brewing in his eyes. He waved a hand dismissively.
"Take him away," Declan ordered coldly.
"Yes, sir," the bodyguards replied in unison. They carried the loudly protesting boy out the door, letting it swing shut behind them.
Left alone in the bathroom, Declan walked over to the mirror. He glared at his ruined reflection. He pulled his phone out again and ordered his assistant to bring fresh clothes to the restroom immediately.
Setting the phone on the marble counter, Declan turned on the tap. The water ran hot. He grabbed a handful of liquid soap and proceeded to wash his hands. He scrubbed the skin with obsessive repetition, trying to rid himself of the phantom feeling of the warm liquid. He washed them once, twice, three times. His expression remained grim enough to strike fear into anyone's heart.
Meanwhile, in the sprawling, lavish corridors outside the main banquet hall, a different kind of chaos was unfolding.
Clara was practically flying down the carpeted hallways. Her breath came in short, panicked gasps. She checked every nook and cranny. She pushed aside heavy velvet curtains, peeked behind massive indoor potted plants, and scanned the seating areas arranged along the walls.
She had searched everywhere, but she couldn't find her missing son.
Her heart hammered a frantic rhythm against her ribs. Leo was a smart boy. He never wandered off without telling her. The fact that he was missing in this massive crowd set off alarm bells in her mind. What if someone had taken him?
She rounded a corner near a set of grand elevators, her keen eyes scanning the area.
Suddenly, her gaze locked onto a familiar figure.
It was a hulking man in a dark suit. The exact same bodyguard from the elevator earlier. The man who worked for Declan.
Clara froze, her blood running cold.
The bodyguard was hastily carrying a kicking, struggling child out toward the elevator banks. The boy was slung over the man's broad shoulder, his little legs thrashing in the air.
"Let me go! Let me go!" the child demanded loudly.
Though the child's face was obscured from her angle, buried against the bodyguard's back, the indignant, high-pitched voice reached Clara's ears loud and clear.
It sounded distinctly and unmistakably like Leo's.
Pure terror gripped Clara's heart. It felt as though an icy hand had squeezed her lungs. She stopped breathing.
She remembered the near-miss in the elevator. She remembered the way Declan had looked at them. She was instantly convinced that Declan had seen Leo's face, recognized the uncanny resemblance, and ruthlessly decided to snatch him away.
Maternal panic, fierce and blinding, surged through her veins. Clara couldn't allow this to happen. He was taking her baby.
Driven by pure adrenaline, Clara broke into a dead sprint. She shoved past guests, her eyes fixed on the retreating figures.
"Stop!" she chased after the men. "Leo!"
She pushed her legs to go faster, her arms pumping. The bodyguard holding the struggling child stepped into an empty elevator car.
Clara lunged forward, extending her hand.
But by the time she reached the elevator banks, the metal doors had already slid shut with a definitive thud. The digital numbers above the doors lit up, indicating the car was descending.
She slapped her palms against the cold metal, letting out a frustrated gasp. She had missed them. If they got him in a car, she would never catch them.
She refused to give up.
Without wasting a single second, Clara pivoted on her heel. Her eyes scanned the surrounding walls and spotted the heavy fire doors pointing toward the stairs.
She ran toward them. She grabbed the handle, put her entire body weight behind it, and shoved open the heavy doors to the stairwell.
The transition from the bustling corridor to the quiet, echoing space of the concrete stairwell was jarring. Clara intended to fly down the steps, hoping to beat the elevator to the ground floor. She gripped the metal handrail, her foot hovering over the first step.
As she burst into the quiet space, her frantic movements came to a sudden halt.
She blinked, her chest heaving as she tried to process the scene in front of her.
Hovering on the concrete steps, just a half-flight down from the landing, stood two sneaky-looking children.
One was a little girl with big watery eyes.
Beside her, holding her hand protectively, was a little boy wearing a perfectly tailored miniature suit. He stood with a composed posture, looking back up at her.
