Rhys kept his jaw locked, his stride measured and stiff as we exited the pack house. I could sense the turmoil coming off him without him saying a single word. Even with the weight of my own impending doom and the Nyssa situation, I couldn't ignore the fact that he was my Beta-to-be, and a Beta whose head wasn't in the game was a liability.
