Bigger than the old place.
Wood and stone, fat windows, a porch wrapping around the side, and forest pressing right up against the back of it like the trees were nosy and leaning in to get a look at us.
One downstairs light was already on, glowing warm and gold in all that dark.
“Oh,” Mum breathed.
“It’s nicer than the pictures.”
“Told you the realtor wasn’t lying,” Dad said, grinning, rollin
