The Fated Trap

Valeria’s POV

The heavy double doors swing open, shattering the quiet suspense. The dark-haired Valkin Alpha strides in. His boots thud against the dark wood floorboards. He marches straight toward me, his glare practically dripping with venom.

He doesn't waste time with pleasantries. His sharp gaze sweeps over my earthy garments.

"Who gave you clothes?" he demands. His voice is a harsh bark that echoes off the walls.

Panic flares in my chest, but I force it down. I think of the kind old woman sorting dried leaves, the fragile safety of her shop. She risked her standing to offer me a shred of dignity. I will not let his wrath touch her. I square my shoulders, meet his venomous stare dead in the eye, and summon every ounce of defiance I can muster.

"I stole them," I reply, keeping my chin high.

His jaw clenches. His expression morphs into a dark, brewing fury. Before he can unleash whatever brutal punishment he is calculating, the heavy doors open again.

The other two Alphas stroll into the room. They bump shoulders, laughing amongst themselves and sharing quiet remarks as if my existence is nothing more than a private joke.

The dirty blonde catches the tail end of my defiant confession. He rakes his piercing eyes up and down my borrowed clothes. A cruel sneer twists his handsome features, heavy with dripping contempt.

"You are indeed your father's child," he mocks.

Hot anger forcefully surges past the rising fear in my blood. I refuse to let them rewrite my family's legacy with petty slander.

"My father may be many things, but he is no thief," I shoot back. I will not let them paint him with cheap, dirty strokes.

The dark-haired man takes a menacing step forward. The air around him crackles with dangerous Alpha dominance. His face darkens ominously.

"Let this be the last time you talk back," he warns. His voice drops to a chillingly low, dangerous octave that vibrates through my chest.

I bite the inside of my cheek, swallowing the rest of my sharp retorts.

The three of them move past me, making themselves comfortable on the plush parlour couch. They sprawl across the heavy furs, posing like arrogant kings holding court.

The dirty blonde rests his arm along the back of the couch. "I think this woman requires strict discipline. All that supposed screwing around in your past has given you way too much nerve. We aren't like the regular bums you spread your legs for, Valeria."

My stomach churns at his crude insult. Before my brain can even formulate a response, the silver-haired Alpha speaks. His voice carries the undeniable weight of a final sentence.

"From now on, you'll sleep here on the couch."

Raw dread washes over me. The terrifying prospect of being physically trapped in this massive room with three dominant, hostile men every single night steals my breath. I expected a dank dungeon or a cold iron cage. I did not expect to be kept on display in their shared living space.

Desperate, I force the words past the suffocating tightness gripping my throat. I drop my hostile guard, praying they possess a single shred of mercy.

"Why would you want me here, in this room, with you?" I plead, my voice breaking slightly against my will. "You've taken everything from me. You've claimed my territory. Just let me go in peace. I won't return to Meridia. I promise."

It seems like a logical, fair plea. Releasing me into the wild solves the problem for everyone.

The dirty blonde slowly shakes his head. He stands up from the couch, his movements deliberate and predatory. He crosses the floorboards, stepping intimately into my personal space until I can feel the radiating heat of his breath brushing against my skin.

"I'm afraid we can't do that, even if we wanted to," he murmurs. There is a cruel, unyielding certainty in his tone.

He leans in closer. "You belong to us, Valeria. Even though you've defiled yourself, lived recklessly… Fate has still handed you to us."

His words make zero sense. My heart hammers a frantic, bruising rhythm against my ribs.

His voice drops to a dangerous, bitter whisper that echoes into the silent corners of the room.

"You are our fated mate, Valeria."

The massive revelation strikes my chest like a physical blow. The air vanishes from my lungs. My knees tremble. Fated mate. Destined to three Alphas who just conquered my home and look at me like I am dirt trapped beneath their boots.

The dirty blonde watches the shock shatter my composure. A quiet, simmering rage burns in his eyes as he explains the brutal reality.

"We cannot simply reject you," he spits out, his bitterness filling the narrow space between us. "Breaking a bond like this would severely weaken our Alpha power. It would destroy our magic, our strength. We are bound to you."

Hot tears slip down my face. The horrifying, inescapable truth settles heavily over my shoulders, pressing me down into the floorboards.

Valkin Alphas never reject their mates to preserve their strength. They would rather keep a mate they despise locked away forever than surrender a single ounce of their power. The lore rule binds them, but it imprisons me.

I am their fated mate. I am their weakness.

Which means they will never, ever let me go.

My fate is sealed, locking me into a nightmare I cannot wake up from.
