Stepping back from the heat of the ruined hotel doors, Sienna watched Gia effortlessly and smoothly slip into her practiced role of the victim. It did not surprise her in the slightest. Her former closest confidante had emotional manipulation down to a science. It was a bitter, jagged reality Sienna knew all too well. Ever since Gia had shown her true, monstrous colors in the previous life by plotting to use Sienna’s own unborn child, the illusion of their friendship had shattered. The memory of that betrayal—the cold, calculated way Gia had targeted an innocent life while pretending to be a supportive friend—burned in Sienna's mind like acid. She was done playing the naive fool. She would not let history repeat itself.
Her voice dripped with heavy, biting sarcasm as she directly challenged Damon's flimsy excuse. "Grabbed the wrong woman by mistake? That is quite the error, Damon. Let us look at the facts. Before the smoke even started, Gia was chatting with Phoebe at a significant distance from me. Furthermore, there was a good half-minute gap between the fire alarm initially sounding and the ensuing madness in the room." She took a step closer, her eyes flashing with defiance. "Tell me, Damon. In all that time, considering the layout of the room and where we were both standing, how could you possibly not figure out it wasn't me?"
Upon hearing this undeniable logic, Warren’s face darkened like a thundercloud. His jaw clenched tight, his protective fury mounting by the second. The surrounding crowd heard the math in Sienna's words. Their initial confusion swiftly shifted. The concerned murmurs morphed into suspicious, knowing smirks as the elite guests began connecting the dots.
Losing his signature, gentlemanly composure, Damon stepped forward. The panic in his eyes was evident, but he tried to mask it with authority. His voice dropped, carrying a chilling, thinly veiled warning meant only for her ears. "Sienna, listen to yourself. You are just upset. The smoke, the panic—it is playing tricks on your mind. This isn't the proper way to handle things, making a scene in front of everyone." He reached out, attempting to gaslight her into submission. "Gia and I are merely friends. Nothing more. We are about to make a big commitment to each other, our wedding is right around the corner, and you are aggressively questioning my loyalty right now? You are showing a severe lack of trust."
Sienna sharply and loudly challenged him, ensuring everyone in the lobby could hear. "Lack of trust? Fine. If you are so innocent, let us prove it. Phoebe is standing right over there." She gestured toward the far side of the gathered guests. "Should I bring Phoebe over immediately to set the record straight about exactly where Gia was standing when the alarm went off?"
Damon froze. He glanced toward Phoebe, his jaw tight.
Seeing him falter, Gia desperately intervened. She pushed herself to the front, her eyes perfectly red-rimmed. She tearfully defended herself, playing up the wounded bird routine. "Sienna, stop it! I know you are terrified, but you cannot just invent things. I loudly claim this right now—I have a boyfriend! He is a good man, and accusing Damon and me of sneaking around is hitting below the belt. You are destroying my reputation over a massive misunderstanding!"
Sienna simply laughed. It was a cold, empty sound that cut right through Gia’s fake tears. She was ready to systematically and ruthlessly dismantle their carefully constructed facade.
"A boyfriend?" Sienna mocked, her tone sharp as glass. "Do not rush to deny it, Gia. Let us talk about this mysterious boyfriend of yours. Remember that exclusive car show last month? Damon told me he was just 'window shopping' for a new sports car. He spent hours looking at a specific model. How fascinating that just three days later, you drove that exact car home."
Gia’s breath hitched. She opened her mouth to speak, but Sienna did not give her the chance.
"And what about the jewelry?" Sienna pressed, pacing a line in front of them. "That limited-edition 'Nebula Star' bracelet. Damon desperately wanted to buy it, but the boutique claimed it was sold out. Yet, miraculously, that very same bracelet appeared on your wrist the following week. Was that a gift from your invisible boyfriend too?"
Finally, Sienna stopped and gestured broadly to their current state. She looked them up and down with utter contempt. "And if all of that is not enough, let us look at tonight. Just look at the two of you. You are wearing matching designer outfits. The custom threading, the specific navy color palette, the intricate embroidery—it is all perfectly coordinated for the night. Do not try to deny it; it is clearly Jennifer's original work. Are you going to stand there and tell me that your specific matching outfits are just a bit too coincidental?"
The undeniable visual proof of their matching attire hit the crowd like a physical blow. Eyes darted between Damon’s tailored suit and Gia’s elegant gown. The coordination was flawless, practically screaming that they had planned their evening together.
Instantly, all the color drained from Gia's face. The tears stopped flowing. She stood frozen, her web of lies unraveling in real-time. Damon was left utterly speechless, his mouth slightly open as he stared at the matching fabric he wore.
The room erupted in gasps and quiet curses. The crowd was openly disgusted by the sudden, stark realization.
"Good god, she is right. Look at the stitching," a woman whispered, her tone laced with venom.
"I cannot believe it. The 'poor little victim' and the 'perfect gentleman' were blatantly cheating right under Sienna's nose," a man scoffed, shaking his head. "They played us all for fools."
"Leaving your fiancée to burn while saving your mistress... despicable."
Despite the immediate public vindication ringing in her ears, Sienna felt no actual relief. She looked at the ruined pair, but the deep, hollow ache of betrayal remained. She knew deep down this was merely the opening act of her grand revenge. This public shaming was a drop in the ocean compared to the pain they had caused her in the past.
Her voice hitching slightly, she turned away from the spectacle and tightly clutched her father’s arm. "Dad," she murmured, the adrenaline finally starting to fade. "I am not feeling great. Can you take me to the hospital?"
Warren immediately agreed, wrapping a protective arm around his daughter's shoulders. He shot Damon a lethal, uncompromising glare. It was a silent vow, promising a severe, inescapable reckoning if he found absolute truth to Sienna's words. Damon flinched under the older man's gaze, knowing his future was crumbling.
Before departing the chaotic scene, Sienna scanned the room. She ignored her ex, letting him drown in the whispers of the elite crowd. Instead, she made a direct beeline for Kaelen.
He was standing near the periphery, adjusting his cuffs, looking entirely unbothered by the dramatic fallout.
"Mr. Vance," Sienna called out, closing the distance between them. "Thank you for looking out for me earlier." She held his steady gaze, drawing on a well of courage she did not know she had. She boldly suggested, "We are heading to the hospital now to get checked out. You should accompany us. You went through the smoke too, and it is better to be safe."
Kaelen looked down at her. The intense fire in her eyes from moments ago had softened into genuine concern. He offered a polite half-smile, a fleeting upward curve of his lips. "I appreciate the thought, Ms. Caldwell," he formally declined, his tone smooth and detached. "But I will be fine. There is no need for you to trouble yourself."
As he turned to leave, dismissing the invitation, a sudden panic gripped Sienna. She could not just let him walk away into the night. She reached out, originally intending to merely catch his sleeve to stop his retreat.
But in a sudden, bold move, she missed the dark fabric of his jacket. Instead, her fingers closed tight, and she ended up grabbing his bare wrist instead.
