The Ultimate Betrayal

AUDREY'S POV

My hands gripped the leather steering wheel with white-knuckled intensity. I drove aimlessly through the sprawling city streets to physically escape the suffocating walls of the massive house. That estate constantly served as a torturous reminder of my failing marriage. Gideon’s unimaginably cruel words from that morning—the agonizing realization that he had paid me for sex—echoed endlessly in my head on a painful loop. After three long years of trying to be the perfect wife, I realized I was nothing more than an object he could use and discard at his whim.

Hours passed in a blur. Utterly exhausted, emotionally drained, and with my eyes red and swollen from hours of crying in the car, I finally decided to return to the estate.

Stepping inside the grand foyer, an immediate, sickening drop in my stomach paralyzed me. Placed carelessly by the front door was a pair of unfamiliar, striking red stiletto heels.

A massive wave of raw panic rushed through my veins. Breathing heavily, I forced my trembling legs to carry me up the grand staircase. My heart hammered violently against my ribs with every agonizing step. I hesitated outside our master bedroom door. My hand hovered over the handle before I finally pushed it wide open.

I froze instantly at the horrific sight laid out before me.

Nora lay comfortably on our matrimonial bed, half-dressed with the expensive silk sheets tangled around her legs, looking entirely at home. Beside her, Gideon slept soundly, fully clothed in his crisp shirt and dark pants.

My mind short-circuited. I had tried my best to overlook his external cheating out of a foolish, desperate love, but actually bringing his shameless mistress directly into our shared home and laying her onto our matrimonial bed was a profound, unforgivable disrespect that I could never, ever tolerate.

"Gideon!" I shouted at the top of my lungs. My furious voice echoed sharply off the bedroom walls.

He blinked awake, shifting on the mattress. A fleeting, momentary look of genuine confusion crossed his handsome face as he groggily glanced at the half-dressed Nora lying beside him, before his expression rapidly shifted back into something agonizingly cold, indifferent, and distant.

"Audrey," he muttered groggily, aggressively rubbing his eyes as if he were just waking up from a casual, innocent afternoon nap.

Beside him, Nora lazily stretched her limbs and offered me a sickeningly sweet, deeply sarcastic smile. "Oh, Audrey. You’re home early."

My whole body vibrated with unadulterated rage. "What is this… Gideon?" I asked, my voice breaking under the immense weight of the betrayal.

Looking profoundly tired and annoyed, he let out a heavy sigh and casually ran a hand through his messy hair. "Calm down, Audrey," he said flatly, looking at me as if I were the one committing a terrible offense.

"Calm down? You brought her into our matrimonial bed, and now you want me to calm down?" I screamed.

Nora laughed softly, a mocking, tinkling sound, as she comfortably wrapped the thick blanket securely around her bare shoulders. "Oh, darling, don't make a scene."

Absolutely refusing to let this homewrecker see me lose total control, I tore my eyes away from her and turned my fierce focus directly back to my husband. "You don’t even care enough to deny it?" I demanded.

His expression remained a flawless mask, emotionless and devoid of an ounce of guilt. "There’s nothing to deny," he said coldly, staring me dead in the eyes.

The sheer, terrifying lack of remorse hit me straight in the chest like a physical punch. I was exhausted by the endless insults, the gaslighting, and the suffocating daily humiliation.

"I want a divorce," the heavy words simply spilled from my trembling lips without hesitation.

Since he obviously didn't love me, we could finally end this toxic, hypocritical marriage once and for all. I fully expected him to jump at the chance, perhaps even beg me to sign the papers immediately.

But instead, a dark, sinister smirk slowly tugged at the corner of his mouth. "Go ahead," he said, leaning back on the bed, unbothered. "But don’t forget who’s funding your parents’ company."

His calculated words struck me harder than a physical slap as he continued, his deep voice slicing through the room like ice. "If you leave, Audrey, I will pull all the money I’ve put in. Let’s see how long they last without me."

Blinded by a fresh surge of hot tears, I turned on my heel and stormed frantically out of the room, violently slamming the heavy wooden door shut behind me. I stumbled down the stairs and collapsed heavily onto the living room couch, crushed beneath the sheer, suffocating weight of his calculated betrayal.

He claimed over and over that he didn't love me, yet when I freely offered to leave his life forever, he viciously used my family to refuse to let me go. I covered my tear-soaked face with my shaking hands and let the sobs rack my body, fully knowing that no matter what he did to me, he still held all the power and the ultimate upper hand.
