Chapter Forty-Nine

I wake up like I’m being dragged up out of dark water.
No sound. No memory. Just panic. My chest is tight, and I can’t get air, and I don’t know where I am.
My body moves before I’m even fully conscious. My hand reaches out, grabbing at the sheets, the bed rails, anything. Then I hit warmth. A hand. A chest.
And then his voice hits me.
"Baby. I’m right here. I got you."
