Chapter 4: Forced Rejection

~ Kaelen ~

Heavy silver chains dragged relentlessly through the dirt as the surviving members of the Midnight Moon Pack were violently shoved into the clearing in front of the ruined packhouse. Kaelen fell heavily to her knees, the cold, cursed metal of her cuffs biting ruthlessly into her bare wrists. Despite the throbbing, agonizing pain vibrating through her bruised bones, a grim, cold sense of justice washed over her. Just a few feet away, her abusive husband Xavier and his scheming mistress Daphne were brutally brought to their knees, weighed down by the exact same heavy silver chains.

No one had escaped. Absolutely no one from the pack managed to slip through the overwhelming forces of the cursed alpha. The night air was incredibly thick with the metallic scent of blood, burning ash, and the sheer, unadulterated terror of a completely defeated people. Pack members wailed around her in the darkness, weeping desperately for the dead and sobbing for whatever dark fate awaited them next.

"Silence!" The booming voice shattered the night air like a physical blow. Kaelen flinched violently, her head snapping up.

Alpha Soren Ames of the Gale Walker Pack stood before the broken crowd, a towering monolith of dark, terrifying power.

"All of you, look at me!" Soren commanded, his voice a chilling, absolute roar that demanded total obedience. "I, Alpha Soren Ames, leader of the Gale Walker Pack, command you to look at me!"

Without any warning, he released his alpha aura. It wasn't just a heavy presence; it was an unbelievably potent, oppressive force that felt like a physical wave of high-voltage electricity crashing violently over the clearing. Kaelen gasped sharply as the suffocating pressure slammed directly into her chest, pinning her down. The air grew impossibly thin. Around her, werewolves screamed in sheer agony as the terrifying aura forced their bodies into submission.

Even the proud, arrogant Xavier collapsed forward, gasping desperately for breath, his forehead pressing directly into the dirt in absolute, agonizing submission.

Kaelen didn't even try to fight it. Having completely lost every ounce of respect and love she ever held for Xavier, she yielded to Soren's overpowering aura without a single shred of resistance. The invisible weight forced her head down, but her mind was terrifyingly clear. Xavier’s pathetic alpha command was absolutely nothing compared to this crushing domination.

"Now that I have your attention," Soren declared, his voice ringing with chilling, absolute authority. "I have conquered your pack. The Midnight Moon Pack is officially mine!"

He began to methodically establish his supreme rule over the conquered territory, pacing like a massive, predatory beast before the trembling crowd. "Like all my conquests, this pack will pay heavy taxes to the Gale Walker Pack. In return, you will be part of a strong alliance protecting you from rogues. Your alpha, Xavier Barlowe, can physically remain here to lead this pathetic pack, but note that I am above him!"

Soren stopped pacing, radiating a monstrous, king-like power that sent violently cold goosebumps erupting down Kaelen's arms. "Defy me, and you will die. Create a rebellion, and you will find yourself six feet beneath the ground. Lie to me or my men, and you will suffer the exact same fate. I am your supreme ruler!"

As the terrifying threats left his mouth, a loud, menacing growl ripped from his throat. His muscular body expanded slightly. Kaelen watched in wide-eyed horror as the thick veins in his massive arms and along his neck bulged dangerously against his skin. His razor-sharp claws visibly lengthened, catching the dim moonlight. The immense, god-like power he exuded forced every single wolf to firmly straighten their backs before bowing their heads completely in unquestioning respect. It completely shocked Kaelen that any alpha could possess this level of monstrous power without tearing their own body apart.

"Am I clear?" Soren demanded loudly. His words were enunciated with terrifying precision, resonating with uncompromising conviction.

Absolutely no one could free themselves from that iron-clad command.

"Yes, Alpha Soren," the broken pack murmured fearfully.

"Yes, Alpha."

"We submit, Alpha Soren!"

Kaelen heard Xavier’s pathetic, strained voice joining the chorus of total compliance. It meant that even her own husband utterly failed to fight the cursed alpha's orders. Soren purposely took his time, prolonging the agonizing, powerful aura crushing the Midnight Moon Pack just to make them suffer a little longer.

When he finally snapped the invisible hold, Kaelen’s shoulders dropped. She took ragged, deep breaths, filling her burning lungs. Gasping and whimpering echoed all around her. The captive crowd murmured fearfully among themselves, whispering about the terrifying, dark truth behind the rumors of the cursed alpha's monstrous curse.

But Soren was nowhere near finished with his bloody conquest.

"Now, some of you may not know this," Soren boldly announced, projecting his voice to the trembling crowd. "But in every territory that I conquer, I take a prize."

He slowly turned his intimidating, icy gaze toward Xavier. "What is your most prized possession, Xavier?"

Xavier scrambled slightly, the silver chains clanking loudly as he desperately tried to negotiate his way out of hell. "I—I have vaults of gold bars in my safe," Xavier stammered, shaking his head rapidly. "The lucrative aquifer group, I can give you absolute control—"

"Fool!" Soren spat, his tone dripping with utter disdain. He thoroughly dismissed the defeated alpha's desperate offers. "I have no interest in your money. I am a thousand times richer than you, Xavier Barlowe! Those are not true prized possessions. Besides, you will already be bleeding your wealth to me in taxes starting next month."

With terrifying speed, Soren lunged forward. His massive, clawed hand clamped aggressively around Xavier's throat, lifting the defeated alpha entirely off the ground. Xavier’s legs kicked frantically in the empty air, his hands clawing uselessly at Soren's unbreakable grip as he struggled to breathe.

Soren didn't just hold him; he publicly humiliated him, exposing the pack's deeply hidden scandal to absolutely everyone.

"Who is more important to you?" Soren's voice boomed. "Your fated mate, who you are fucking around with? Or the great Luna of this pack?"

Loud murmurs of sheer shock violently rippled through the surviving townspeople. Kaelen’s breath hitched as she felt dozens of eyes suddenly land directly on her. The pack members were finally realizing the sickening, twisted truth of Xavier, Daphne, and Kaelen’s shattered marriage. But more than the public exposure, absolute panic seized Kaelen’s heart. How did the cursed alpha know about their deeply hidden, shameful dynamic?

"Can't talk?" Soren sneered at Xavier’s choking form. "Then, let me decide."

Tossing the gasping, suffocating alpha aside like literal trash, he let Xavier hit the dirt with a sickening thud, leaving him groaning in intense pain.

Soren quickly pivoted, violently grabbing a shrieking, terrified Daphne by her arm.

"Help! Xavier, please help me!" Daphne screamed hysterically, tears streaming down her dirty face as Soren hoisted her up.

The cursed alpha meticulously inspected the weeping woman from head to toe. His icy blue eyes scanned her trembling form before he let out a harsh scoff. "This one has no real value," he sneered in absolute disgust. "I don't like this one!"

He immediately discarded her, throwing Daphne face-first into the dirt where she landed with a pitiful, loud wail.

Then, he slowly turned his massive head. Through the dark slits of his bronze mask, his piercing gaze locked entirely onto Kaelen.

He began slowly pacing directly toward her.

Absolute panic violently seized Kaelen. Her heart hammered against her ribs like a trapped bird. She scrambled backward on the dirt, the heavy silver cuffs digging painfully into her wrists, but there was nowhere to go. Her blood ran entirely cold. The cursed alpha’s heavy footsteps sounded like the beating drum of an executioner marching straight toward her fragile, broken body.

His incredibly strong arm shot out, yanking her violently up from the ground with terrifying ease.

"Put me down!" Kaelen screamed, thrashing wildly. She desperately and frantically struggled to break free from his iron grip, but he completely ignored her frantic efforts. He cupped her face tightly, turning her head roughly from side to side, then gripped her arm and thighs with unapologetic force. His touch was cold, assessing, and absolute.

"I want this one," Soren decreed loudly.

Soren turned his intimidating gaze back to Xavier, who was still coughing up dirt. "Isn't she your Luna? I commend you for your taste. And because you chose so well, I want her too!"

"No. No, please," Kaelen begged, her voice cracking as sheer panic completely overwhelmed her. What would a monster like him do to her?

Soren returned his intense attention to her. As he tilted her neck, his icy blue eyes locked directly onto the permanent mating mark etched deep into Kaelen's pale skin. Xavier's mark. The permanent, physical claim that forever bound her soul to her treacherous husband.

A highly visible, dangerous irritation instantly flared within Soren. A low, menacing growl vibrated from deep within his chest.

"We have to get rid of that," Soren stated flatly, his voice tight with sudden, explosive rage.

He ruthlessly dragged Kaelen by her bound arms, pulling her forcefully across the dirt toward her humiliated husband. Kaelen stumbled, her knees scraping against the jagged rocks, until Soren shoved her aggressively to the ground right in front of Xavier.

"Reject her!" Soren roared, his voice shaking the very ground beneath them.

Xavier froze completely. His bruised face contorted as he silently weighed his political and personal options, calculating what keeping his Luna might mean for his fragile, remaining power.

That foolish hesitation cost him dearly.

Soren’s heavy boot snapped out, kicking Xavier brutally and mercilessly in the stomach. The loud impact echoed in the clearing, and Xavier vomited blood onto the dirt.

"She is the prize I want," Soren snarled violently. "Reject her now, or I will kill your mistress!"

On cue, the fierce, red-haired beta warrior violently grabbed Daphne by her hair and actively pressed a gleaming, silver blade directly to her exposed throat. Daphne shrieked, thrashing hysterically as the sharp edge threatened to slice her open.

Seeing his precious mistress seconds away from bloody death, Xavier completely broke. The cowardly alpha wheezed, spit blood from his mouth, and looked at Kaelen.

"I, Xavier Barlowe, alpha of the Midnight Moon Pack, reject you, Kaelen Reed, as my mate and luna!" he shouted, his voice cracking with pain and desperate surrender.

The ultimate betrayal stung deeply. Even though she hated him entirely, the magical words of rejection from her fated mate felt like a physical blade slicing straight into her chest. But Soren gave Kaelen absolutely no time to emotionally process the immense hurt.

His large, calloused hand violently gripped her jaw, forcing her to look directly up into his mask. His grip was entirely unyielding.

"Accept his rejection, now!" Soren barked. "Now!" he snarled again.

Left with no other choice, Kaelen braced herself for a much more painful experience. Defying and breaking a permanent mating mark was known to result in the most tremendous, agonizing heartache a wolf could endure.

Trembling violently, her entire body shaking from the cold and the terror, Kaelen stared at her pathetic, bleeding husband. She took a ragged, deep breath, letting the boiling rage inside her give her the final push.

"I, Kaelen Stallard, accept your rejection, Xavier Barlowe! I renounce my position as your wife and being the Luna of the Midnight Moon Pack!"

A brief flicker of complete confusion crossed Xavier's bruised, bloodied face at the sudden sound of her real surname. Stallard. It was a highly secret necessity, a hidden truth Kaelen had to use to ensure the magical rejection successfully took hold, as the magic only recognized the absolute truth.

Before Xavier could even question it, the excruciating, mind-numbing pain of the violently severed bond washed entirely over Kaelen. It felt as if an invisible, jagged knife had been plunged directly into her chest and ripped violently downwards, completely shredding her soul. Every nerve in her body felt like it was set on fire. The magical thread that had connected her heart to Xavier's was violently ripped from its roots. She used all the energy she had left just to withstand the agonizing rejection.

Just like that, the tether tying her to Xavier and the entire pack dissolved into absolute nothingness. She was instantly disconnected, hollowed out, and entirely stripped of her pack identity.

Before she could even draw a single breath of relief from the severed tie, Soren’s massive hand shot out. His grip tightened aggressively on her arm, pulling her harshly against him.

Staring intensely and deeply into her tear-filled hazel eyes through the dark slits of his mask, the cursed alpha made his absolute, terrifying declaration.

"Now, you are mine!"
