The VIP Section

The metallic stench of the dungeon and the echoing crack of the rogue’s neck had clung to Kaelie for days, but as Kieran’s truck tore down the open highway, the heavy dread finally began to lift. The highly anticipated Apex Circle weekend had officially arrived, bringing a desperately needed moment of respite from their pack's sudden, grim war preparations.

Above them, brilliant, clear blue skies stretched on for miles. Sitting in the passenger seat, Kaelie reached over and completely rolled down her window. The rushing wind immediately whipped through her blonde hair, tangling the golden strands, but she didn’t care. Closing her eyes, she secretly flared her nostrils, pulling in deep, steady breaths of the rushing air. She was quietly, desperately hoping to catch the elusive, intoxicating scent of her destined mate on the passing breeze. But there was only the smell of warm asphalt and crisp mountain air.

They soon passed through the massive wrought-iron gates of the sprawling, magnificent royal grounds. The majestic stone architecture of the palace loomed ahead, a stark contrast to the brutal realities they had just left behind at the Argent borders. Kieran parked the truck, and the twins immediately grabbed their bags, heading straight inside to meet up with Evander.

They found the young prince in his opulent study, surrounded by towering stacks of official paperwork. Evander looked absolutely exhausted, rubbing his temples as they walked in. With his older brother, King Cyrus, gone, Evander had been left entirely in charge of managing the massive castle's daily affairs.

"You look like hell," Kieran remarked, dropping his heavy duffel bag onto a plush velvet chair.

Evander let out a heavy sigh, leaning back in his leather desk chair. "I feel like it. Cyrus took the elite royal guard on an extended mission. There's been a sudden, alarming increase in rogue activity along the sovereign borders, and he's out there investigating it."

Kieran's posture instantly stiffened, the carefree weekend vibe vanishing for a split second. "We’ve been experiencing identical, highly unusual rogue sightings and border breaches in the Argent territory. Dad has our entire patrol on maximum alert right now."

A heavy, looming threat of war hung thick in the quiet study. For a moment, the three of them just looked at each other, the suffocating weight of their future alpha and royal responsibilities pressing down on their shoulders. But the grim silence was suddenly shattered by a chorus of ringing cell phones.

"They're pulling up to the gates," Kaelie said, glancing down at her glowing screen.

The group collectively made a conscious decision right then and there to push the dark politics and looming threats aside. They walked out to the grand entrance just as the rest of their boisterous friends—Cal, Thatcher, Hadley, and Tamsin—spilled out of a heavily packed Jeep, laughing and shouting loud greetings.

Desperately seeking an escape from the suffocating pressure of their bloodlines, Kieran stepped up, immediately taking decisive charge of the weekend's itinerary. Standing before his friends with a wide, infectious grin, he clapped his hands together.

"Alright, listen up!" Kieran declared, his alpha tone laced with pure excitement. "For the next forty-eight hours, we are ignoring rogue threats, border patrols, and royal duties. We’re going to be reckless teenagers and eat, drink, and dance. Any objections?"

He was met with a unanimous, roaring agreement. Hadley cheered loudly, Cal pumped his fist in the air, and even Evander let out a genuine, stress-free laugh. The entire group quickly dispersed to their lavish guest suites to dress to the nines.

An hour later, the Apex Circle rolled out in a sleek fleet of royal vehicles, leaving the palace behind and heading straight to the most exclusive, wildly popular nightclub in the heart of the city. The bass was already vibrating through the pavement as they approached the entrance. The moment the massive, intimidating bouncers recognized the royal and alpha bloodlines walking up the red carpet, the velvet ropes practically vanished. The group was instantly ushered past the massive line of waiting patrons and escorted deep into the lavish VIP section overlooking the main floor.

The hypnotizing, heavy bass of the club music immediately drew them out of their plush leather booths and down onto the packed, neon-lit dance floor. Strobe lights fractured the darkness, painting the sweaty, grinding bodies in flashes of brilliant electric blue and magenta. Kaelie danced between Evander and her brother for a while, letting the pounding rhythm wash away the lingering anxiety of the week.

Eventually, her throat grew dry, and she peeled herself away from the group, stepping up to the glowing, LED-lit edge of the massive bar. While she was waiting to grab a chilled drink, a visibly arrogant, overly confident male wolf approached her. He had the thick, muscular build of a warrior, but his swagger was unbearably sleazy. Leaning in far too close, completely invading her personal space, he blatantly dragged his hungry eyes up and down her tight mini dress.

He smirked, leaning his forearms on the sticky bar top, and purred, "You look like you are an angel who fell from heaven."

He clearly expected her to blush and swoon at the pathetic, painfully cliché pickup line.

Kaelie didn't even blink. Her expression remained ice-cold. She slowly turned to face him, a wicked, razor-sharp smile spreading across her painted lips. She looked him dead in the eye and effortlessly fired back, "So was Lucifer."

The arrogant male's smirk instantly vanished. He was left standing there, completely stunned and speechless, his mouth hanging slightly open as Kaelie grabbed her cocktail, turned her back on him, and confidently walked away.

She slipped back into the sweaty, grinding throng of the dance floor, her hips catching the rhythm of the heavy bass. But being an unmarked, unmated female in a club full of aggressive wolves acted as a glaring beacon, drawing even more unwanted attention. Douchebags seemed to multiply in the flashing neon lights.

Suddenly, a random guy aggressively grabbed Kaelie's waist from behind, his large, clammy hand clamping down hard on her hip and yanking her back flush against his grinding body.

Kaelie instantly stiffened. The sheer audacity of the touch made her blood boil. Without turning around, she issued a fierce, low warning, her voice vibrating with suppressed alpha dominance. "Remove your hand before I remove it for you."

The guy simply laughed directly in her ear, his hot, alcohol-laced breath hitting her neck. He entirely underestimated her.

It was the worst mistake of his life.

In a blur of sheer, terrifying speed, Kaelie aggressively twisted her body, using his own momentum against him. She reached down, tightly grabbed the man's forearm, and violently snapped his wrist backward. The bone popped with a sickening, audible crack that somehow pierced straight through the booming club music.

The guy shoved backward, shrieking in absolute agony. He cradled his mangled, rapidly swelling wrist against his chest, his face twisting in rage as he looked at her. "You Bitch!" he screamed at the top of his lungs.

But the exact second the vicious insult left his mouth, his raging anger instantly dissolved into pure, unadulterated terror. The color violently drained from his face, leaving him chalk-white.

He looked past Kaelie’s shoulder and realized his fatal error. Standing directly behind her were Kieran, Evander, Cal, and Thatcher—four massive, incredibly lethal alpha males. They stood shoulder-to-shoulder, their jaws clenched, forming an impenetrable, utterly intimidating wall of pure muscle and lethal intent. The sheer protective fury radiating from the Apex Circle was enough to suffocate the surrounding crowd.

Evander took a slow, deliberate step forward. The strobe lights caught the prince's face, revealing royal eyes completely devoid of warmth. He looked down at the cowering man, beginning to toy with the trembling, sweating male.

"Didn't your mother teach not to touch a lady without her permission?" the prince asked softly. His quiet tone was far more terrifying than a roar.

The guy's knees practically buckled. He clutched his broken wrist tighter, stumbling backward as he babbled uncontrollably. "I-I'm s-sorry... p-please forgive me?" he stammered, his wide, panicked eyes darting to Kaelie.

Kaelie didn't offer a shred of mercy. She coldly stared him down, her posture perfectly straight. She deliberately let him sweat and shake under her intense, unwavering glare for several long, agonizing seconds, watching the fear completely consume him. Finally, she snapped at him, her voice cutting like a blade. "Get out of my sight."

The guy turned and absolutely bolted for the exit. He shoved wildly through the packed bodies, desperate to escape the lethal aura of the four looming alphas, disappearing into the dark club in seconds.

The heavy, violent tension that had frozen their section of the floor cleared as quickly as it had come. Cal let out a booming laugh, slapping Thatcher on the back, and the group seamlessly returned to laughing and shouting over the pounding music, brushing off the brutal encounter as if it were nothing.

After a few more high-energy tracks, Kaelie found herself needing a breather from the chaotic, suffocating floor. She slipped away and headed back to the VIP bar area, settling onto one of the plush velvet stools. Before she could even order another drink, she was immediately cornered by Tamsin and Hadley. The two girls flanked her, their eyes gleaming with curiosity.

Leaning in close over their colorful cocktails to be heard over the thumping bass, Tamsin dropped her voice to a hushed, secretive tone. She glanced over her shoulder to ensure the boys were still distracted on the floor, then looked back at Kaelie. "So, tell us the truth," Tamsin started. "Were you genuinely disappointed to find out that your mate wasn't Evander at the birthday party?"

Kaelie paused, her fingers tracing the condensation on her glass. She looked out over the railing, her eyes easily finding Evander down on the dance floor. He was currently happily dancing with another female, spinning her around under the flashing lights.

"Yes and no," Kaelie admitted hesitantly, her voice thoughtful. She turned back to her friends, leaning her elbows on the bar. "I mean, I would have loved the comfort of having known and been best friends with my mate beforehand. It would have made the whole mating process so much easier. But, honestly, my relationship with Evander has always been strictly friendly. It’s entirely lacking in any romantic fire. We're practically siblings."

Hadley nodded knowingly, taking a slow sip of her vibrant pink drink. "That makes perfect sense. But considering who you are, your elite status, and the hidden strength you just completely showed off out there..." Hadley gestured toward the dance floor where the wrist-snapping incident had occurred. "Your destined mate is definitively going to be incredibly powerful. There's no doubt about it." Hadley smiled, placing her hand flat on the bar. "I'm placing a firm bet right now. You are finally going to meet him at the upcoming Leadership training."

Tamsin's face lit up, and she smiled brightly, firmly agreeing with Hadley's bold prediction. "I totally agree! And I'm adding my own hope that this mystery mate of yours is going to be incredibly strong and ridiculously handsome. You deserve nothing less."

Hearing their absolute confidence, Kaelie felt a sudden, bright warmth bloom in her chest. A renewed sense of hope washed away all her earlier anxieties and the lingering darkness of the rogue threats. The idea of finally meeting a strong, powerful alpha at Leadership training ignited a spark of genuine excitement.

She picked up her chilled glass, a genuinely cheerful smile spreading across her face. "I will drink to that!" she cheered loudly.

The three girls happily clinked their glasses together, the clear chime ringing out above the heavy bass of the club, before turning back to the glowing dance floor and eagerly returning to the night's wild festivities.
