The Astrea Spire Incident

The massive holographic display in the center of Kaelie’s living room shifted, projecting the sprawling, five-century-long legacy of the legendary Vaughan family. Page after page of encrypted dossiers scrolled past, detailing a bloodline that had served as royal advisors and effectively ruled global commerce from the shadows. To Kaelie, their astronomical wealth and towering political status were entirely trivial details. She couldn't care less about their history.

What actually caused the blood of the legendary Phantom Healer to pump faster were the attached medical files. The dark rumors surrounding the Vaughan patriarch, Asher, were entirely accurate. His terminal condition was supposedly impossible, medically unsalvageable, and baffling the greatest minds on the planet. This was exactly the kind of seemingly insurmountable medical challenge she lived for.

"Tell them I'm in," Kaelie said into her encrypted phone, leaning back in her plush leather chair.

"Perfect," her subordinate’s voice crackled over the secure line, buzzing with eager energy. "I'll have them wire the money immediately."

"Payment upon successful completion," Kaelie interrupted, her tone leaving absolutely zero room for negotiation. "You know my unyielding demand. I don't take a single cent of their millions until the job is done."

She disconnected the call, locking her sights on the highly exclusive medical screening event being hosted at Halston's towering, opulent Astrea Spire.

Early the next morning, the crisp air of Halston’s elite district was filled with the low, throaty hum of luxury engines. The absolute elite of the city's medical world were gathering outside the grand entrance of the Astrea Spire. Amidst the glittering sea of polished Rolls-Royces, Maybachs, and Bentleys, Kaelie arrived riding a simple, unassuming scooter. Dressed in her casual attire, with a remarkably youthful face devoid of the pompous stress that plagued the rest of the attendees, she looked wildly out of place.

Almost instantly, her path was aggressively blocked. A physically imposing security guard stepped right in front of her, his chest puffed out in arrogant posturing. He glared down at her battered scooter and casual clothes, entirely unimpressed.

"Hey! This isn't a public park. Get lost," the guard barked, waving a thick hand at her. "Today is a highly classified private event for the Vaughan family."

Kaelie rested her hands on her handlebars, her expression completely flat. "I'm the healer summoned by the Vaughan family."

Believing her to be nothing more than a delusional fangirl or a pathetic scammer, the guard scoffed loudly. "Yeah, right. Look at you. You don't even look old enough to hold a learner's permit, let alone a medical license. Where's your physical invitation? Show it to me."

Kaelie didn't bother arguing with the hired muscle. She calmly reached into her pocket and pulled out her encrypted phone, intending to message her internal team for clearance. But before her thumb could even tap the screen, the guard lashed out, violently smacking the device right out of her hand. It clattered harshly against the pavement.

"Stop wasting my time!" he snarled.

But his aggressive, domineering demeanor vanished in a split second. It was immediately replaced by a sickeningly sweet, sycophantic smile as a sleek, black luxury car smoothly pulled up to the curb just inches away. The guard practically tripped over himself to rush to the back door, bowing deeply as he pulled it open.

Stepping out of the vehicle were the true VIPs of the hour: Cassandra, the newly discovered biological heiress of the Hardwick family, accompanied by her prominent escort, the esteemed surgeon Harrison Everett.

As the elite pair moved toward the grand entrance, Cassandra’s gaze flickered toward the commotion. Through the tinted windows, she caught sight of Kaelie straddling her scooter. For a brief second, Cassandra's perfectly manicured face twisted in genuine confusion. *What is she doing here?*

However, playing the role of the aloof, untouchable aristocrat, Cassandra pressed her lips tightly together and remained completely silent. She chose deliberately not to acknowledge the girl whose life she had displaced, turning her chin up and walking straight past without a second glance.

Watching the disgusting display of superficiality and transactional bootlicking unfold before her, a wave of cold disgust washed over Kaelie. She had zero tolerance for bureaucratic red tape and elitist posturing. She wasn't here to play politics or stroke the egos of Halston’s high society.

Without a second thought, she swung her leg back over the seat of her scooter. Her grip tightened on the rubber handlebars. She was fully prepared to turn the engine over, walk away from the millions of dollars, and cancel the high-profile appointment entirely. Let the Vaughan patriarch rot if this was how they ran their affairs.

But before she could twist the throttle, a sharp, blood-curdling scream suddenly shattered the calm morning air, freezing everyone in their tracks.

"Oh my god! Somebody help!" a woman shrieked.

Kaelie snapped her head toward the drop-off zone. A tiny, fragile little girl, no older than five, had suddenly collapsed. She lay crumpled and sweating profusely on the hard, unforgiving pavement, her small body trembling violently as she fought for air.

Despite the massive crowd of elite, highly trained medical professionals gathered specifically for the Vaughan event, absolute chaos erupted. Instead of rushing to help, the attendees panicked and backed away.

A desperate bystander grabbed the arm of a nearby doctor, a woman dressed impeccably in a crisp, designer white coat. "You're a doctor! Please, you have to do something!"

The doctor actively and violently refused to intervene, yanking her arm away with a scowl. "Are you insane? I'm not touching her," she snapped haughtily. "Look at the strict liability laws in this city! There's an absolute lack of familial consent here. If something goes wrong, I lose my license. Besides, I have my own wealthy, VIP patients waiting for me inside. She's not my problem."

Hearing the exchange, Kaelie’s jaw tightened. A dangerous, icy fury settled over her features. The utter lack of basic human empathy from a so-called healer disgusted her to her very core.

"A doctor who picks and chooses who to save doesn't deserve the title," Kaelie snapped, her voice cutting through the rising panic like a serrated blade.

Abandoning her scooter, she dropped swiftly to her knees beside the trembling child. "Back up! Give her air!" Kaelie commanded. Her authoritative tone carried a weight that immediately forced the frantic, suffocating crowd to step back.

Without a fraction of hesitation, Kaelie produced a small, razor-sharp medical blade. With a quick, practiced flick, she sliced open the restrictive collar of the little girl's vest, instantly allowing the child's chest more room to heave and breathe. Her other hand was already moving with lightning-fast precision, unzipping her kit to prep her specialized, silver acupuncture needles.

Seeing this supposed amateur taking unauthorized action, the offended doctor in the white coat marched over, her face contorted in a furious sneer.

The woman aggressively puffed out her chest, flaunting her credentials. "I am Natalia Everett. I am a prestigious student at the Kingsport Medical Academy, and the niece of Harrison Everett! You step away from her right now. If you dare touch that child with those unsterilized pins, I will see to it you face immediate imprisonment!"

Natalia pointed a perfectly manicured finger at Kaelie's youthful face, her voice dripping with venom. "Look at you! You're a dangerous, unlicensed fraud practicing voodoo in the street. Drop your ridiculous act, step away from the dying child, and simply wait for an ambulance to arrive!"

Kneeling on the blistering pavement, Kaelie didn't even flinch at the barrage of threats. Her hands remained rock-steady, moving with fluid, life-saving swiftness as she isolated the child's pulse points. She didn't pause her work for a single second.

Slowly, Kaelie tilted her head slightly. Her gaze locked onto Natalia with an expression of absolute, terrifying ice. The sheer intensity of her stare made the older woman involuntarily falter.

"Wait?" Kaelie asked, her tone dripping with venomous sarcasm. "So she can die in the 'golden hour'? Some doctor you are."
