Chapter 29

Something wakes me. I open my eyes and turn to the side. Chiara is not in bed. I immediately sit up. She is sitting on a chair by the window. I hear faint crying. How long has she been up and crying? I get out of bed and walk to her.

“What are you doing up? Did you even sleep?” I ask when I am near enough for her to hear me.

She tells me what I already know. She has realized Massimo is not coming
