“We’re going to have such a memorable day,” Rose whispered with a wide grin.

A tight chill crawled down my spine.

I forced a polite nod and stepped back. “I really should be going. It’s getting late, and the kids—”

“Already?” she pouted. “But we haven’t even finished shopping.”

“I promised them I’d be back before bedtime,” I said, clutching my bag. “They must be waiting up for me.”
