“Maeve…?”

The name slipped past my lips before I could stop it.

“Maeve?” I muttered again… titling my head and squinting my eyes in confusion.

My chest tightened. “Wait—Maeve?” I sit up straighter, staring at him. “As in… Maeve the witch?”

My heart stops.

It’s her.

It’s really her.

Val’s eyes flicked away for the first time since he walked in. “Aye…” he murmured, voic
