I wake to darkness.

For a moment, I don't know where I am. Then it all crashes back—the wedding dress fitting, Vittoria's vial, Rafael's warning at dinner.

Today.

Today I become his wife or I die trying to escape.

I turn my head carefully. Rafael is still asleep beside me, one arm thrown across my waist even in unconsciousness. Always holding. Always claiming.
