The next morning, at the breakfast table after she got up, Irene asked Vanessa again, "When are we going to have a meal so I can finally meet Desmond?"

"I'll give him a call," Vanessa said.

Desmond didn't pick up, but Vanessa didn't seem bothered when she came back. "He's probably in a meeting right now."
