My eyes snap open to the glaring morning sunlight piercing through the sheer curtains of my bedroom window. The heavy, leather-bound volume of vampire lore rests awkwardly against my ribs, the stiff, ancient cover digging sharply into my skin. I had pushed myself to the absolute brink last night, devouring page after page of dense history, silver weaknesses, and supernatural facts until my exhaust
