Unmasking Betrayal

The heavy dressing room door creaked open. Genevieve popped her head inside, her voice dripping with artificial sweetness. "Hey Rosie, they are kicking off the party down there. Are you set?"

Rosalind turned away from the bright bulbs of her vanity mirror. Her gaze locked onto her sister's slightly plumped, bruised lip. It was a glaring physical testament to her recent intimate activities. That swollen, raw patch of flesh provided the final confirmation of Harrison's betrayal. Before this moment, Rosalind might have taken Harrison's sweet assurances at face value. She might have rationalized the late-night texts and mysterious absences. Not anymore.

"Yeah, I am good to go." Rosalind offered a serene, untroubled smile.

She stood up and stepped out into the hallway. She wore a stunning, intricate white lace dress paired with shiny silver flats. The gown hugged her slender waist before flowing gracefully to her ankles. Her dark hair tumbled in soft, elegant waves down her back. With minimal makeup to highlight her natural features, she looked glowing and ethereal.

Genevieve stared, her jaw going slack. She blinked as she took in the transformation. "Uh, new outfit, Rosie?"

"What do you think?" Rosalind chuckled, brushing a stray curl over her slender shoulder.

"It looks good on you. Harrison will think you look hot, for sure." Genevieve stammered out the compliment. Her hands balled into tight fists at her sides, her manicured nails digging into her palms. Quiet, venomous jealousy flashed in her dark eyes. She feared her sister's breathtaking appearance might capture Harrison's wandering heart, ruining her own meticulous plans.

Rosalind reached out and gave her sister's stiff shoulder a reassuring pat. She had zero intention of fighting over a cheating scumbag.

Down in the buzzing, opulent hall of the Crestwave Dome, wealthy guests gossiped without mercy. The city's elite mingled under cascading crystal chandeliers, sipping expensive champagne and exchanging ruthless whispers about the bride-to-be.

"So Rosalind actually snagged Mr. Harrison Prescott? With her lackluster track record?" one socialite muttered from behind her feathered fan.

"I know, right? They must be desperate to overlook her past." her companion replied with a sharp smirk.

"Speaking of the Prescotts, Kaelen is still single." another woman pointed out, scanning the sprawling room. "Any brave takers?"

"He gives off terrible vibes." a young heiress snorted, taking a sip of her drink. "Marry him and you are asking for a miserable, frozen life. Plus, he is stuck in that chair."

"But being Mrs. Kaelen Prescott means you rule Vespera. Talk about a boss-level upgrade!"

"Psst! Kaelen Prescott just showed up!" someone whispered near the grand entrance.

A hush fell over the grand hall. The sea of wealthy guests parted. Kaelen made his imposing arrival, his assistant Declan Mercer steadily wheeling him through the crowd. Dressed in a tailored dark suit and a crisp white shirt, Kaelen radiated an elegant, cold, and commanding aura. He leaned back in his wheelchair with an air of authority, the cool gleam of an amethyst bracelet catching the light on his powerful wrist. His amber eyes scanned the room with piercing indifference, shutting down anyone who dared to stare too long.

Harrison swaggered over through the parted crowd, a smug grin plastered on his face. He greeted his disabled uncle, adjusting his expensive silk tie. "What is up, Uncle Kaelen? You actually made it out?"

Kaelen gave a curt nod. "I would not miss your big day."

"Appreciate you coming. The show is starting, so I am going to hit the stage." Harrison bounced up the grand staircase with an arrogant spring in his step to prepare for the ceremony.

The moment Harrison left, the Prescott family descended upon Kaelen. His grandmother Martha leaned in, her tone pressing and hopeful. "Now that Harrison is engaged, when is your turn, Kaelen? When will you start dating?"

Arthur Prescott chimed in right behind her, eager to secure another alliance. "Harold's second daughter is lovely. How about a date with her tomorrow evening?"

Kaelen shifted his cool gaze to his father. "I will pass."

His sharp, uncompromising dismissal silenced their persistent attempts. The family members exchanged awkward glances but dared not push the issue further.

The host's booming voice echoed over the state-of-the-art sound system, drawing everyone's attention to the front. "Let us give a massive round of applause for our beautiful bride-to-be, Ms. Vance!"

Rosalind made her grand entrance. She glided down the aisle toward the stage, her white lace dress catching the brilliant spotlights. Her overwhelming beauty left the gathered crowd stunned into silence.

Harrison stood captivated at the center of the stage. His eyes were glued to her ethereal form, his mouth falling open in genuine awe. Off to the side, Genevieve clenched her jaw so hard her teeth ground together in bitter, undeniable frustration.

"Rosalind looks stunning tonight. Now, let us proceed to the ring exchange. Give it up for her sister, Genevieve, bringing the sparkle!" the host announced, trying to keep the momentum going.

Genevieve forced a pristine, camera-ready smile onto her face. She walked forward with practiced, elegant grace, presenting the sparkling diamond rings resting on a plush velvet cushion.

Suddenly, the venue's massive digital screen flickered. The carefully planned event was hijacked in an instant. The screen began broadcasting intimate, skin-baring vacation photos of Harrison and Genevieve. They were shown tangled together on pristine beaches, sharing sweaty embraces in luxury hotel rooms, and exchanging messy kisses over romantic dinners. Every single shot screamed of a long-term, passionate affair.

The hall exploded into chaos.

Harrison scrambled backward, his face draining of all color. "Stop that! Turn it off right now!"

Genevieve went pale. The velvet cushion slipped from her trembling hands. The expensive ring boxes hit the floor with a loud, echoing clatter. "It is not what it looks like!"

Before anyone backstage could kill the feed, the broadcast switched. A scandalous, explicit hookup video of Harrison and Genevieve filled the massive screen. The state-of-the-art sound system blasted their secret encounter for the city's elite to witness. Every desperate moan, heavy breath, and wet sound of their entanglement echoed through the grand hall's premium speakers.

"Harrison, who is better? Me or Rosie?" Genevieve's voice purred seductively over the speakers, her bare body thrashing against the tangled bedsheets on the massive screen.

"You, for sure. I would not go near her with a ten-foot pole." Harrison's voice replied amidst the slapping of skin and the explicit, wet sounds of their hookup.

"Aren't you about to be engaged to her? Are you going to keep away?"

"Nah, I haven't even touched her. She is like a plank of wood. But you, you are something else."

"Then swear to me."

"Of course. I swear, you are the only one I love."

Total chaos erupted among the assembled elite. Guests openly pointed and mocked the supposed pure, innocent designer.

"She seemed so sweet, but look at that wild and dirty side!"

"Acting all pure but she is secretly taking her sister's man. Disgusting!"

"Her music is angelic, but those moans are straight from the gutter!"

"I dropped big bucks for her concert tickets, and now I am wishing I hadn't!"

Acting out her heartbreak to perfection, Rosalind staggered backward. Her hands flew to her mouth to cover a fake gasp. Her tear-filled eyes widened in orchestrated shock. She let out a choked sob, lunging forward to close the distance between her and the cheating groom.

She slapped Harrison hard across the face. The crisp smack echoed over the murmurs of the crowd.

"How could you deceive me like this? To be with my own sister, Genevieve! If you liked her, why did you even propose to me?" she screamed. Her voice trembled with agony, hot tears spilling down her flushed cheeks.

Harrison stumbled from the sheer impact. He had never been struck before, his cheek instantly bearing the red mark of her hand. The intense sting shocked him, but it was quickly overshadowed. Seeing Rosalind weeping with such tragic, breathtaking beauty hit him with a wave of intense regret. He realized just how beautiful his fiancé actually was. He scrambled forward, attempting to grab her hands to placate her.

"Rosie, just listen to me!" he begged.

She snatched her hands away in disgust. "Save your breath!"

Genevieve dropped to her knees on the hard stage. She wept in a panic, shrieking at the top of her lungs. "Rosie, the photos and video are fake! Someone is framing us, trying to drive a wedge between us! Harrison and I are innocent! I am your sister; you have to believe me!"

Rosalind stared down at her trembling form. Her face became a flawless portrait of disappointment and betrayal. "Gen, just yesterday you said you were jealous that I had snagged a great guy like Harrison. I had no idea you were already together behind my back."

Genevieve choked on her frantic tears, grasping at the air. "Rosie, I didn't do it!"

Shooting Harrison a freezing, disgusted glare, Rosalind spoke loud enough for the hall to hear. "I am done talking. We are through for good!"

She turned on her heel and ran off the stage. She bolted straight for her grandfather, Roderick, and clung to his arm. She buried her face against his tailored sleeve, sobbing into the expensive fabric.

Furious, Roderick patted her back and stormed toward Arthur Prescott. He confronted the Prescott patriarch, his voice booming over the stunned, whispering crowd. "Your grandson sure is something! Two-timing and bringing a whole world of shameful trouble to my granddaughter! Is this how your family conducts itself?"

Arthur felt the piercing stares of the city's elite burning into his skin. Desperately trying to salvage his family's humiliated pride in front of everyone, he held his hands up in a placating gesture. "Roderick, I am sorry for this mess. We will provide a proper, immediate resolution. Rosalind, just name any demand you have. I will grant it if it is within my power to make amends."

Rosalind sniffled, holding back her timed tears. She bit her bottom lip, lifting her chin to look directly at Arthur. Then, she let her eyes shift slowly across the room, landing squarely on the commanding man sitting quietly in the wheelchair.

"Well then, how about compensating me with another fiancé?"
