Beyond Midnight

Ever true to his words, Roman arrived at exactly six. The sharp honk of his car alerted me of his presence and my stomach tightened. Thankfully, I was already dressed and ready. I grabbed the pastry bag—heavy with the pastries I had baked right after our call—and headed downstairs. It would be bad to come empty-handed.

Roman stepped out of the car the moment he saw me.
