The Alpha's Bargain

ROWAN’S POV

My brain stutters to a grinding halt.

I stare at his profile in the dim light of the cabin. "A fake girlfriend? Make everyone believe we are actually dating?"

Vance smiles. It is the grin of a wolf who just boxed a rabbit into a dead end. "You catch on fast, Rowan."

The black BMW glides through the icy streets of Anchorage. Neon signs and halogen streetlights blur past the tinted windows in streaks of color. I half expect him to laugh and tell me this is some twisted joke. King Vance is not a man who makes jokes.

I study his face. He looks sharp, clean, and intimidating. The events of the last few hours tumble through my head like loaded dice. I crossed a massive line with him tonight in the bathroom. Lines do not matter to him. He redraws boundaries whenever it suits his agenda.

I lean back against the freezing leather. "Why would you pick me? You could have any woman in the world on a silver platter."

Vance cuts a sidelong glance my way. His ice-blue eyes gleam with dark amusement. "That is the exact reason it will work, Rowan. No one expects me to pick the omega wife of my own subordinate. They will not anticipate it after your little airport meltdown tonight."

He has a pragmatic point. The sheer shock value of this move will command attention. It will keep the shifter rumor mills spinning for months.

I cross my arms over my chest, very aware of how tight my sweater clings to my skin. "You do not even know me."

His heated gaze rakes down my body, deliberate and calculating. "I know plenty. I know you are smart enough to recognize a golden opportunity. I know you are beautiful enough to make every alpha in that summit choke on their jealousy when I walk in with you on my arm. And I know I want to fuck you again. Everything else is mere logistics."

My cheeks burn a blazing crimson.

Vance leans closer, his broad shoulders shifting. "We hold hands at events and you let everyone believe you are my devouring obsession for one week. In exchange, you get limitless protection. You get financial stability. I will give you my personal guarantee that Trent will never lay a hand on you again. I will sign the divorce paperwork myself. No strings attached."

A short, cynical laugh escapes my throat. "Your grand solution to my cheating husband problem is for me to become a kept woman for a week. That is your strategic master plan."

Vance shrugs, keeping his intense gaze locked on my face. "The Christmas Summit starts tomorrow. Do you want to face Trent and his lawyers with an empty bank account? Or do you want to walk into that resort on my arm and watch him shit himself in front of every pack alpha on the continent?"

Heavy silence fills the car. The heater blasts warm air over us, but my hands feel like ice. This is the ruler of the werewolf realm offering me a lifeline. There is always a price.

I swallow hard, feeling the trap closing. "What is the catch?"

Vance drops his voice to a dark, gravelly pitch. "Unconditional obedience. You do exactly what I tell you. No arguments. That applies to public displays and private quarters. If you are not prepared for the full, devoted girlfriend experience, find another sugar daddy to fix your problems."

His gaze drops to my mouth before trailing lower. The explicit sexual expectation in his eyes is undeniable. He wants me as a prop in public and a submissive fuck toy in his bed. The realization should make my stomach turn. Instead, his dark dominance sends a traitorous pulse of wet heat directly between my thighs. My core clenches, dripping slick moisture into my panties at the mere thought of him taking control of my body again.

I open my mouth to argue, but the BMW begins to slow down. We turn up a sweeping driveway lined with towering, snow-covered evergreens. At the end of the winding lane, a gargantuan structure rises out of the darkness. It features jagged glass and sharp, intimidating angles. Every single window blazes with warm light against the freezing Alaskan night.

Obsidian Peak Winter Resort.

A valet in a crisp uniform sprints forward to open my door. The biting cold air slaps my face, dragging me out of my heated daze. Vance is already out of the car. He tosses the keys to the valet and drops a rolled hundred-dollar bill into the man's hands. He circles the hood and offers me his hand.

I refuse to take it. If I touch his skin right now, my legs will give out.

Vance does not care about my silent protest. He steps right behind me and places his large, warm hand firmly on the small of my back. He leaves no room for escape, guiding me forward with an iron grip.

The opulent lobby is a masterpiece of wealth. Enormous high glass ceilings stretch overhead. A massive stone fireplace cracks and pops in the center of the room. Full-sized pine trees stand inside, draped in expensive silver ornaments and glowing glass moons. The scent of money and shifter power hangs heavy in the air.

The moment we step through the sliding doors, a heavy hush falls over the room. It is the kind of dead silence that precedes a gruesome execution.

The front desk clerk looks up. The color drains straight out of her face. Two businessmen in tailored charcoal suits freeze mid-conversation. They drop their voices to frantic whispers. I can feel the weight of a dozen stares. Every eye in this massive lobby is locked onto Lycan King Vance Rostov.

By sheer proximity, they are all staring at me.

Vance remains unbothered by the audience. He maneuvers me past the staring crowd and a wall of muscular security guards. He guides me into a sleek, private elevator.

The steel doors slide shut with a soft hiss, cutting off the whispers and the prying eyes. Vance hits the button for the top floor. He lets out a slow, measured breath in the enclosed space.

He glances sidelong at me. "Relax."

My voice comes out strangled and tight, giving away the lie. "I am relaxed."

Vance turns his body toward me. His piercing eyes sweep down my frame, taking in the wrinkled skirt and the nervous tremor in my knees. He takes a deliberate step closer. He leans in until his straight nose almost brushes the sensitive shell of my ear.

His voice is thick with dark amusement. "You are still wet from the plane, Rowan. Did you really think I would not smell that on you?"

Fire races across my skin, turning my face thermonuclear.

He chuckles, the sound deep and vibrating within the small metal box. "We are going to properly deal with that once we reach the suite."

The elevator dings. The steel doors glide open to reveal a private corridor carpeted in plush black velvet. At the very end of the hall, enormous double doors await. Vance pushes them open without a shred of ceremony, striding inside like he owns the sky.

The immense penthouse takes my breath away. It is a modern cathedral built for luxury. Floor-to-ceiling windows wrap around the vast living space, showcasing a stunning view of the snow-drowned valley below. A sleek, glass-enclosed fireplace already roars with bright flames. The sprawling wet bar is stocked with enough top-shelf liquor to keep me drunk for a decade. The floors are stark white marble, gleaming under the modern chandeliers.

It is the kind of breathtaking room that makes a normal person feel insignificant. I stand near the doorway in my rumpled clothes.

Vance points a finger toward a plush white leather sofa, wordlessly instructing me to sit.

My knees are shaking too hard to remain standing. I obey, sinking into the expensive cushions. I do not belong in this brutal, high-stakes world. My thighs are still flushed and sticky from our dirty encounter in the airport bathroom. My hair is a tangled mess from the chaotic flight. Even my battered flats look ridiculous against the pristine marble floor.

Vance strips off his suit jacket and tosses it over a chair. He walks to the bar and pours two glasses of amber whiskey. He does not ask what I want to drink. He hands me a heavy crystal tumbler and perches his tall frame on the arm of a matching chair directly across from me. His blue eyes lock onto my face.

I take two desperate, burning sips of the alcohol before he even opens his mouth. The fiery liquid scorches down my throat, settling the frantic fluttering in my stomach.

Vance drops all pretense of teasing, his tone becoming ruthlessly pragmatic. "Here is how this works. We attend every single summit event together for the next seven days. You do exactly as I say. You will act like my devoted girlfriend. No less, but no more. Give the audience a convincing show. When the week is over, you walk away with a massive check. If you want a prominent job in my territory, you will have it. If you want to vanish, we part ways. I do not care if you run off to build a new life in Bali or start a cult in the mountains."

I take another massive gulp of my whiskey. My brain works double time trying to figure out the hidden trap.

I grip the heavy glass with both hands. "Why bother with this elaborate charade? None of this makes sense. What do you actually need this for?"

Vance studies my face closely. "Are you familiar with Sienna?"

I frown, pulling the information from the glossy shifter magazines and pack newsletters. She is a dangerous, ruthless supermodel. She is a high-profile business mogul. She is also the former girlfriend of the Lycan King. "Of course I know who Sienna is. She is your ex-girlfriend."

Vance takes a swallow of his whiskey, his jaw tight. "The term ex is far too generous. She is a manipulative obsession that refuses to stay dead. Sienna is currently attending this summit here in Alaska. She is deploying a terminal illness as a vicious, falsified weapon. She claims she has six months left to live, and she is demanding one last Christmas together."

I raise an eyebrow. "That sounds dramatic."

Vance corrects me in a deadpan tone. "It is blackmail. She has cornered every elder in the northern territories with her fabricated sob story. She is telling everyone we are reuniting before she dies. She is milking this fake tragedy for maximum leverage. If I refuse to play ball and take her back, she will twist the narrative and make it a public spectacle."

I process his dark confession. The puzzle pieces finally snap together.

I trace the rim of my glass. "So you need a fake girlfriend. You need someone no one would ever anticipate to blockade her manipulations."

He sets his glass on the table with a firm clink. "I need a real one in the eyes of the media and the political ladder. I need a woman with just enough public disgrace tied to her name to be endlessly interesting to the press, and just enough dignity to make Sienna look like a desperate idiot."

He wants to use my catastrophic public meltdown with Trent as a shield against a supermodel's threats. It is brilliant. It is also terrifying.

I shake my head, feeling pathetic. "But you are the king. You could point your finger and have a hundred willing, flawless women in your bed by midnight."

He leans forward, resting his elbows on his knees. "That is exactly the point, Rowan. I want one that the public does not expect. I want to humiliate Trent to the ground. I want to firmly blockade Sienna from my doorstep. And I want a woman who will not fall apart on me if I make her scream in a public bathroom."

I stare at him in stunned silence. The sheer arrogance of the man is overwhelming.

I challenge him. "You have endless resources. Why not just pay a discreet, professional escort to play the part?"

Vance smiles viciously. "I tried that exact route once. The professional attempted to blackmail me right back for an extra fifty grand. I had her deported on the spot."

I believe that without hesitation.

I sit back against the plush leather and weigh my terrifying options. I can turn him down, walk out into the freezing snow broke, and face my abusive husband's wrath alone. Trent will use his lawyers to ruin my life, drag my name through the mud, and leave me destitute. Alternatively, I can remain in this breathtaking penthouse, play the submissive trophy girlfriend to a frightening King, navigate the brutal politics of the week, and walk away with financial freedom.

The choice carries massive risks.

I set my empty glass on the marble coaster. "Say I agree to this insane arrangement. What do you actually get out of this deal, Vance?"

His deep voice rumbles across the space between us. "What do you think I get out of this, Rowan?"

I look at the hard lines of his chest beneath his unbuttoned shirt. "Sex."

He does not even attempt to deny it. "And you will enjoy every second of it."

His blatant cockiness should be a massive red flag. Instead, it sparks a deep, burning curiosity inside my chest to see just how far he will take this physical dominance tonight. I try to visualize the upcoming week. The nonstop gossip. The lavish events. The way Trent will lose his mind when he sees me draped over the Lycan King. The way I will wake up in a bed with a man who knows exactly how to unravel my self-control.

I want to strike back. I choose the devil I know.

I force my spine straight, refusing to cower. "I will agree to your terms. But I have strict conditions of my own."

Vance raises one dark eyebrow. "Let us hear them."

I hold up a finger, staring him down. "Condition one. We keep no secrets regarding this fake relationship. I refuse to be treated like a clueless pawn. If I have to navigate these brutal politics at your side, I need to know exactly what is going on behind the scenes. I will not look like a fool."

He nods. "Consider it done."

I raise a second finger, my voice unwavering. "Condition two. I need a secure escape route. If this plan blows up in our faces, you arrange for me to vanish. I refuse to go back to Trent or face a humiliating pack exile just because my new boss wanted to win a toxic contest with his ex-girlfriend."

A dark smirk touches Vance's lips. "You would enjoy Australia. They have plenty of wild animals. I will have you on a private jet in under an hour if the situation goes south."

He stares at me like he is plotting exactly how to keep me from ever boarding that jet.

I swallow hard, feeling my face flushing so hot I might actually melt into the leather sofa. I force the words out of my throat, breaking every bit of my good omega conditioning. "Condition three. You have to swear to make me cum every single time."

The silence in the penthouse drops like a physical weight.

I refuse to look away, demanding eye contact. "I need to see stars. No exceptions, Vance. Trent never bothered to care about my pleasure. He forced sad, unsatisfied sex on me for years, and I refuse to return to that miserable existence. If you want my submission in that bed, you earn it."

Vance moves instantly. He crosses the spacious room in three massive, purposeful strides. Before I can even register the shift in proximity, he is looming directly over me. The overwhelming heat radiating off his body feels like a wildfire.

He reaches down and takes my chin firmly between his thick fingers. He tilts my face upward, forcing me to meet his burning, ice-blue eyes. The raw predatory hunger in his expression makes my breath hitch in my throat.

He promises his impending sexual destruction in a low, gravelly voice. "Delivering orgasms is not a problem for me, darling. In fact, starting from tonight, you will be lucky if you ever walk straight again."
