The Heiress Returns

Sloane rested the silver laptop on her knees. Her fingers flew swiftly across the keyboard, executing lines of code with calculated efficiency. She infiltrated the Vance mansion's surveillance system, systematically wiping every digital footprint she had ever left behind. Video logs, security gate records, and network timestamps vanished into the void. She cleared all traces of her presence from the servers. It was as though she had never lived there at all.

The following morning, Kaelen stepped into the hollow silence of the mansion.

"Mr. Vance, Sloane is gone," the assistant reported from the hallway.

Kaelen ignored him and pushed open the master bedroom door. The lingering fragrance of fresh roses hit him instantly. He rarely set foot in this space. Sloane had decorated it on her own, outfitting the room with warm, bright yellow bedsheets that stood in stark contrast to the cold, monochrome tones of the rest of the house. Kaelen did not linger on the decor. His gaze locked onto the bedside table.

The divorce agreement sat exactly where he had left it, now bearing her signature on the bottom line. The two-million-dollar check lay right beside the papers, untouched. Next to the check rested a heavy gold pendant.

Kaelen picked up the piece of jewelry. The front was carved into a lifelike rose. He flipped it over, finding his own name engraved on the back. A simple card sat beneath it.

He picked up the card and read the elegant handwriting. "Happy third anniversary. Goodbye, Kaelen."

His brows knitted together as he glanced at the calendar on the desk. It was indeed their anniversary. His thumb traced the sharp edges of the gold rose. He provided a generous monthly household allowance, but Sloane rarely touched a dime, always claiming her expenses were minimal. How could she afford a custom, solid gold piece without using his money?

He turned to his assistant, his eyes darkening with sudden suspicion. "Find out exactly where she went and track all her recent activities. If my corporate opponents sent her, drag her back."

The pieces no longer fit. Was Sloane really the humble country orphan she claimed to be?

Three days later, the atmosphere inside the CBD Business Building in Oakhaven crackled with nervous anticipation. The headquarters of the Kensington Group was in a state of chaotic suspense. The company had been miraculously saved from the brink of bankruptcy two days ago by a mysterious buyer who had acquired its plummeting stocks at a premium.

Executives and employees crammed into the grand lobby on the first floor, waiting for their new CEO.

"Who is the new CEO? Does anyone actually know?"

"No one does, not even the higher-ups. I hope our savior is a handsome guy."

"Keep dreaming. What if it is a woman?"

"Please. A female leader is as impossible as the deceased Miss Kensington returning from the dead."

A sharp command from a senior manager silenced the murmurs. "Quiet down. The car is here."

Everyone held their breath, fixing their eyes on the glass entrance. A sleek black Rolls-Royce pulled up to the curb. The vice CEO hurried forward and pulled the rear door open.

A pair of black four-inch heels stepped out onto the pavement. A beautifully composed woman emerged, dressed in a pristine white suit. Her short hair framed a face adorned with flawless makeup.

As she straightened up and stepped into the lobby, the veteran executives who had worked at the company for a decade gasped in shock. The familiar face struck them like lightning.

"Miss Kensington!"

Sloane smiled with effortless dominance, her gaze sweeping over the frozen crowd. "Hey, long time no see."
