She stayed—crumpled up in his room with him. She’d debated coming to his house at all, but after his endless pleading, and because he’d already shown up at her doorstep so many times, she gave in. One thing Ruby didn’t want, though, was meeting his grandfather. The old man unnerved her. There was something about the way he looked at her—like he could see straight through her soul.
