The climb grew steeper the farther they went.

Camilla’s boots crunched softly against the field as Massimo guided her higher, his hand firm around hers, steady and protective. The trees thinned gradually, replaced by rugged stone and open sky.

“Massimo…” she breathed, slightly breathless. “How much farther?”

He glanced back at her, that familiar calm in his eyes. “Just a little more. Trust me.”
