Unexpected Reunion
DAPHNE
THE NEXT DAY
I’d spent the whole day trying to act like everything was fine.
I cleaned the kitchen. Then the living room. Went up to the bedroom, folded some clothes. Unfolded them. Folded them again. I tried reading a book, but the words didn’t stay still. I played music. Turned it off after two songs. Every second dragged like it was trying to suffocate me.
By noon, I still hadn’t eaten.
