Vanessa’s voice was the first thing I heard.

“Well, well, what a pleasant surprise.”

I glared at her, my pulse pounding in my ears.

There she was—standing in the doorway, her purse slung over her shoulder, her heels clicking against the floor as she stepped inside. That damn smirk stretched across her lips like she had won. Like she had everything under control.

Like she hadn’t just stabbed
