I couldn't think. I couldn’t even breathe. My mind spun in every direction, trying to find some part of this I could hold onto and make sense of, but it all slipped through my grip like ash.

The Queen’s eyes burned into me, and instead of silence, she laughed, a broken, humorless sound.
