Kaidan's POV

None of us said a word as we walked into the private council room after leaving Cassidy to rest. The ceremonial candles had long since melted down, and all the guests had dispersed to their various homes.

The guards stood at their posts outside the heavy double doors. Inside, the Queen was already waiting, sitting tall despite the lateness of the hour, her crown absent but her author
