A Sinister Invitation

Two Years Ago

The memory of two years ago still burns with crystal clarity.

I sat up on my narrow bed, my mouth falling open in shock.

Chloe leaned against the doorframe, drawling in her thick Texan twang. "Wanna hang out with us this evening, Flores?"

As a poor girl who was ostracized and mocked by my obscenely rich roommates, I craved any shred of acceptance. I spent most days isolated in this very dorm, aching for a sense of belonging. Driven by a pathetic need to fit in, I agreed eagerly. My naive eyes remained blind to the malicious glee that flashed across Chloe's makeup-caked face. That brief look should have been a blaring warning siren, but I was too foolish to notice.

Chloe smirked, her calculating eyes dismissing my plump frame with open contempt. "Then let's get you dressed."

I gripped the edge of my mattress, knowing I possessed no clothes that could rival her lavish wardrobe. "Uh... where are we going?"

She shrugged her shoulders with a cryptic smile. "Somewhere you have never been to, baby."

What followed was a degrading transformation. She shoved my reluctant body into her own lascivious, lacy red dress. Because it belonged to a girl much taller and slimmer than me, the garment felt more like a torture device than an outfit. It was absurdly small and provocative. It barely contained my breasts, pushing my cleavage up to an obscene degree and clinging tight to my wide hips. The hem ended scandalously high at mid-thigh, leaving my legs exposed to the cold air.

Then, she forced me to sit down while she plastered my face with heavy, sultry makeup, erasing the real me under layers of foundation and dark eyeshadow. Staring in the mirror, the innocent girl I knew was gone, replaced by a hyper-sexualized stranger who promised way too much to anyone looking. My lips were painted a striking red. I shuddered at the reflection.

Seven agonizing hours later, the illusion of a fun night out shattered.

We stood trembling in a dark, foreboding alleyway, facing a massive, hidden building that radiated pure danger. A deep, cold sense of disquiet pervaded every inch of my body, chilling my bones more than the winter wind ever could. I tried to tell myself it was just the night chill making my hands shake, but the heavy weight of dread had been pooling in my chest all evening.

I pulled my arms around my chest, my voice reduced to a whisper. "Ummm... just where are we, Chloe?"

Her friendly facade dropped in a second as she shot me a glare with pure venom. "Shut the f*ck up."

She stepped up to the heavy metal doors and pounded her fists against the massive knocker. A towering, beefed-up bouncer yanked the door open. He scowled, his thick muscles tensing, but his gaze softened the moment he registered Chloe.

She stepped closer, flashing a wicked smile. "We have a pass."

The bouncer blinked and nodded curtly, his small eyes skimming over her hand. Then, his salacious, predatory gaze shifted to me. He raked his eyes over my exposed flesh and pushing cleavage, mentally stripping me bare with his intense look. My skin crawled with visceral disgust. I shrank back, hating the raw hunger in his expression. But I had no choice. I forced my legs to move, following Chloe inside.

The moment the heavy metal doors slammed shut behind us, the safe, mundane world I knew was locked away forever.

The interior was a claustrophobic nightmare. We navigated through dimly lit corridors draped in oppressive deep red and black cloth. From somewhere deep within the building, the muffled, heavy thud of loud music vibrated through the floorboards. Well-dressed, lethal men roamed the halls. They threw me disdainful, predatory glances as though I were a cheap piece of trash meant for mindless consumption, their cold eyes lingering heavily on my exposed chest. I had to jog in my stilettos just to keep up with Chloe, who barely acknowledged my presence anymore.

She waited impatiently at the next set of doors, throwing me a cool, detached look before shoving past another set of menacing bouncers.

Suddenly, we were thrust into a massive, cavernous room overwhelmed by chaotic, deafening noise. The air was thick and unbreathable, choked with cigarette smoke, the foul stench of sweat, and spilled alcohol. Beneath the throbbing music, I heard the horrifying, wet, bone-crunching sound of bare fists slamming into human flesh.

Raw terror seized my chest. I almost drew back, wanting to flee this nightmare.

But Chloe, sensing my mounting panic like a predator scenting blood, turned on her heel. She clamped her hand around my wrist. Her sharp manicured nails dug so hard into my fragile skin that I gasped. She leaned in, her voice dripping with sadistic anticipation. "Oh, NO. You do NOT run away, little Marci the Mouse. I did not bring you here, all dolled up, just to turn tail and run."

She yanked her arm back, dragging my stumbling, off-balance body in her wake. Over the deafening noise of the club, I caught her muttering under her breath about teaching me a lesson. My stomach dropped into a bottomless abyss, and a loud roaring filled my ears, drowning out everything else.

WHAT DID SHE MEAN?
