The Captive's Bluff
_Sienna's POV_
My stomach grumbled, a sharp, gnawing pain cutting through the fading adrenaline of my confrontation with Alessio. It served as a stark reminder that I had not eaten a single bite since stepping foot onto this sprawling estate. The hours bled together inside the solitary confinement of the bedroom. I paced the hardwood floorboards, rubbing my aching stomach, suffocating in the quiet of my enemy's territory. The walls felt like they were closing in on me. I cataloged every corner of the room to distract myself from the hunger, but there were no books, no television, and my cell phone was long gone. The isolation was a calculated move, meant to break my spirit and make me compliant.
The heavy deadbolt clicked from the outside.
My head snapped toward the thick mahogany wood. Alessio had locked me inside hours ago. I froze in place, waiting for the brass knob to turn. Nobody entered. The hallway remained dead silent. I pushed up from the edge of the mattress and walked toward the exit. Growing up in a house full of dangerous, unpredictable mafia men taught me to question everything. Was this a trap? Would Alessio be waiting on the other side with that cold, dead stare? I gripped the cool metal of the doorknob and turned it.
I poked my head out, scanning the dimly lit corridor. The path was empty, but the low hum of masculine voices echoed from a distance. Another sharp pang hit my abdomen. I needed food to keep my strength up. I slipped out of the room, my bare feet padding softly against the expensive runner rug. I followed the rough cadence of the voices, turning the corner. The opulence of the estate clashed with the sheer violence standing in the corridor.
Two massive men stood blocking the path. Thick assault rifles hung from tactical slings over their broad chests. They wore tailored black shirts that stretched tight over their bulky frames, a stark contrast to the lethal weapons in their hands.
"I wonder what he was thinking when he decided to get married to her."
The first guard spoke. The sheer disgust rolling off his tongue hit me like a physical blow. They were talking about me. Entering the den of the Ferara family meant swimming in a sea of hatred. My stomach chose that exact second to let out another loud, hollow rumble.
Both men whipped their heads in my direction. The metallic clicks of safeties disengaging echoed off the marble walls. In a blink, two heavy gun barrels pointed straight at my face.
My heart dropped into my throat. I swallowed the massive lump of fear and threw my hands into the air, showing them I was unarmed.
"What the fuck are you doing out of your room?"
The first guard growled. He had a thick Italian accent, his muscular arms covered in dark ink that peeked out from his rolled-up sleeves. He took a menacing step forward, shoving the cold steel barrel closer to my chest. He made zero effort to lower the weapon.
I opened my mouth to explain. "Alessio had said that—"
The sharp sound of the rifle cocking cut me off.
"If you say his name one more time with so much disrespect, you wouldn't like what I'd do."
I gritted my teeth. What did they expect me to call him? Uncle Alessio? Boss Alessio? The latter seemed safer in this volatile situation. I straightened my spine, refusing to cower. I needed to bluff my way through this if I wanted to eat. I took a steadying breath.
"Boss Alessio asked me to get myself whatever I wanted, and right now I'm hungry. Are you going to deny him?"
I delivered the lie with a haughty tone, looking him dead in the eye. The guard scrutinized my face. He searched for a hint of hesitation, but I gave him none. He let out a harsh breath and lowered the heavy weapon. My shoulders dropped a fraction of an inch in relief.
That brief wave of relief vanished the second my gaze shifted to the other guard.
He stared at me with undisguised, predatory lust. His dark, sleazy eyes raked down the thin fabric of my oversized t-shirt, lingered on my bare legs, and crawled right back up to my chest. He undressed me with his eyes. The sheer sleaze in his stare made my skin crawl, triggering a deep sense of revulsion.
"My eyes are up here."
I hissed the words and pushed past them, needing to put distance between us.
"Kitchen?"
I tossed the question over my shoulder. The first guard barked an order at his partner, telling him to show me the way.
"Move."
The second guard dug the cold nozzle of his gun hard into my lower back, prodding me aggressively forward.
"I was going to do so without you hitting me."
I rolled my eyes, forcing my feet to keep a steady pace. His heavy gaze burned into my spine with every step. The tension in the air thickened, making it hard to draw a full breath. I passed several members of the household staff along the way. Maids dusting antique vases and men in suits carrying briefcases all stopped to look. Every single one of them shot me glares filled with loathing. The blood running through my veins made me a walking target in this house. I kept my chin high, refusing to let them see me sweat.
We reached the massive kitchen. Gleaming marble countertops and stainless steel appliances stretched across the room. The guard stopped at the threshold, leaning his bulk against the doorframe. A maid in a crisp uniform brushed her shoulder roughly against mine as she walked past.
"Clean up whatever mess you make."
She scoffed, flipping her hair over her shoulder. I stared at her retreating back, my jaw clenching. I ignored the petty hostility and headed straight for the grand pantry. I gathered some simple ingredients and threw them into a pan on the large industrial stove. The sizzle of the butter was the only sound in the room. The silence stretched. I glanced over my shoulder.
The guard remained by the door. His dark eyes tracked every movement I made. The stare was heavy, silent, and uncomfortable.
"What's your name?"
He did not answer. He just kept staring at me with a blank, intense expression. The hairs on the back of my neck stood up. The silence grew unbearable. I turned my attention back to the stove.
"That was weird," I muttered under my breath.
I dished the hot food into a porcelain bowl and scrubbed the pan clean. I carried my makeshift meal and walked right past him. He fell into step behind me. The cold gun nozzle did not touch my back this time, but his suffocating presence felt like a physical weight. We navigated the winding corridors until we reached the spot where the first guard still stood post.
"Boss said you should keep an eye on her."
The first guard delivered the cold announcement. He pointed a finger at the leering man. Alessio had officially assigned this specific, sleazy creep to be my permanent watchdog. Why did I need a dedicated guard? The estate crawled with armed men. There was no escape.
The watchdog nodded his head, a dark smirk playing on his lips.
I quickened my pace. We reached my quarters. I slipped inside and slammed the heavy wood shut. My chest heaved. Twenty-four years of surviving in a house full of volatile, unhinged men like Nolan had sharpened my instincts to a razor's edge. Those instincts screamed at me right now. I could not trust this man for a single second.
I sat on the edge of the mattress and ate my food. The warm meal settled the gnawing pain in my stomach, but the dread in my veins only multiplied. I stared at the empty porcelain bowl in my hands. I needed to get rid of it. I walked to the door. Through the narrow crack, I saw him standing right across the hall. He stood at attention, watching my room.
I opened the door just enough to poke my arm through. I held the bowl out.
"I need to wash this."
"Let me do it."
His gravelly voice rumbled through the quiet hall. He took an aggressive step closer. He stretched out a large, meaty hand.
Warning bells deafened my thoughts. I remembered the men my father employed, the kind who took what they wanted in the dark corners of our home. I pinched the edge of the porcelain, trying to keep my fingers as far from him as possible. Instead of taking the dish, his rough fingers clamped violently around my slender wrist. The grip crushed my bones.
I gasped. I jerked my arm back with all my strength.
The bowl slipped. It crashed onto the wooden floor, shattering into dozens of sharp white shards. I threw my body weight backward and grabbed the edge of the heavy door. I dug my bare feet into the carpet, desperate for traction. I threw my shoulder against the wood, desperate to slam it shut.
He shoved his massive body against the other side. The wood cracked against the frame. The muscles in his neck bulged as he easily forced his way inside, his sheer bulk overpowering my leverage. He stepped over the broken porcelain and reached behind him.
The deadbolt clicked. He locked the door securely behind him.
My heart hammered against my ribcage like a trapped bird. The air in the room vanished.
"I'll scream."
I backed away, putting distance between us. I opened my mouth, showing him the threat was real.
"Then do that, scream. Who would come save you? You're nothing here."
He mocked me with a cruel grin, taking another slow step into my space, daring me.
The harsh truth of his words hit me, but it did not extinguish my fight. He was right. Nobody in this house gave a damn about the enemy's daughter. Knowing that deep down did not stop me. I refused to be a victim. I sucked a massive breath into my lungs, feeling my ribs expand, and let out a piercing, glass-shattering shriek.
Genuine panic flashed in his dark eyes. He lunged.
A calloused hand clamped hard over my mouth, cutting off the sound. He hissed in my ear, his breath hot and foul.
"Are you fucking insane?"
I knew I only had one real shot at survival. I opened my jaw and sank my teeth deep into the fleshy part of his palm. The metallic taste of copper blood flooded my tongue. He grunted. I drove my knee up with every ounce of physical strength I possessed. My kneecap smashed directly into his groin with a sickening thud.
He dropped to the floor with a pained curse, his hands flying down to hold himself. His face twisted in agony.
I scrambled frantically for the door. My trembling fingers slipped on the smooth metal of the lock. I managed to pop the latch open. Freedom sat just inches away. Before I could yank the handle and escape into the hall, he recovered. A massive hand slammed flat against the wood. The door clicked shut.
Fingers twisted into the roots of my hair. He yanked me backward. My scalp burned. A sharp, explosive slap stung my cheek. My head snapped viciously to the side. The force rattled my teeth, bursting my lip and leaving a high-pitched ring echoing in my left ear. I tasted fresh blood.
"You little whore."
He growled the insult against my skin. He pinned my body against his chest and sank his dirty teeth agonizingly deep into the delicate curve of my neck. I thrashed. I kicked my legs. He forced one massive hand over my mouth, mercilessly muffling my screams. His other hand grabbed the collar of my oversized tee.
He yanked downward with brutal force. The cheap cotton fabric gave way with a loud rip.
He tore my clothes apart. The shirt shredded off my shoulders, exposing my bare breasts to the cool air. The fabric tore down the middle, pooling at my waist. He grabbed the waistband of my underwear, ripping the thin lace down my thighs. Tears streamed down my face as my naked body was put on full display. I crossed my arms over my chest, but he slapped them away.
He shoved me forward. I tumbled onto the soft mattress, the springs groaning under my weight.
I kicked my legs, scrambling backward, but he stood at the edge of the bed, blocking my escape. His dark eyes trailed over my bare skin, filled with a sickening, ravenous hunger. He stared at my exposed breasts, his gaze dipping lower to my bare thighs, devouring my nakedness. His thick hands moved to his waist. He frantically fumbled with the metal buckle of his leather belt.
The sound of the leather slipping through the loops echoed in the room.
"I'd make sure to taste every inch of your skin—"
He panted heavily, his fingers working the zipper of his trousers.
At that exact, terrifying moment, the locked door was violently pushed open. The wood hit the wall with a loud, deafening bang.
Alessio walked in.
