The sea began to glow long before I saw him.

Red first, then gold, then white so bright the horizon looked like a wound opening across the water. The air thickened with heat; even the wind came heavy, dragging smoke and salt together until it burned to breathe.

He’s coming, my dragon said, the words a vibration behind my ribs. And he’s not alone. The leyline hums with him.

“I feel it.”
