Summit of the Cloud Serpent

Shadows swallowed Kaelen the moment he crossed the invisible boundary into the Mottledwood. The air grew stagnant, heavy with a suffocating sense of lethal intent. A system notification flashed in his peripheral vision, warning him of the high-level monsters lurking within the dense foliage. He dismissed it without a second glance. He knew exactly what lived here. The Razorboars were Level 3 charging-type beasts, renowned for moving twice as fast as an average player. Unlike the harmless Redfur Rabbits of the starting zones, these beasts were brutal. A single savage charge from their massive tusks would leave a normal player on the brink of death, granting them a free teleport straight back to the nearest city before they could even react.

But Kaelen possessed a deep understanding of monster aggro mechanics. Razorboars shared one glaring weakness: they could not climb trees.

The rustle of underbrush erupted into a thunderous rumble. Without hesitation, Kaelen lunged toward a towering cypress tree. He leaped into the dense branches just in the nick of time, flawlessly evading a savage, coordinated charge. Looking down, he watched a roaming pack of four massive Razorboars tear through the exact spot he had just occupied. The beasts skidded to a halt, grunting in confusion as they circled the thick trunk, unable to comprehend his sudden disappearance. Kaelen smirked from his perch. Once his heartbeat stabilized, he began leaping from branch to branch, expertly navigating the perilous woods and bypassing the high-level aggro zones without fighting a single battle.

Exiting the Mottledwood unscathed, he faced the sprawling Ashford Plains. This zone posed an entirely different nightmare. The tall grass concealed deadly wolf packs, and unlike the dim-witted boars, these predators possessed relentless tracking instincts. Once a wolf locked onto a target, survival became nearly impossible.

Kaelen dropped into a low crouch, relying heavily on his Thief class's innate hidden state. Over the next two grueling, tension-filled hours, he meticulously wove past multiple roaming packs. Whenever a wolf's glowing yellow eyes snapped in his direction, Kaelen activated Stealth. The skill granted him twenty precious seconds of total invisibility, allowing him to pop Sprint and burst out of their aggro range with lightning speed. The maneuver demanded extreme situational awareness and flawless reflexes. By the time he left the plains behind, his Level 0 stamina bar blinked a dangerous red, his digital lungs burning fiercely from the sustained effort.

Ahead loomed his true destination: Wyrmcrash Mountain. The steep, jagged peak pierced the sky at over 3,600 feet, littered with massive, impassable boulders. The oppressive aura of the imprisoned ancient beast kept all native monsters miles away. Kaelen welcomed the isolation, but the climb itself proved torturous. He pushed his Level 0 avatar to its absolute physical limits. He endured an exhausting, five-hour climb up the treacherous rock faces. His muscles screamed in protest with every pull, his grip slipping on loose stones as gravity fought him, yet his sheer willpower forced him ever upward.

Upon cresting the mist-shrouded summit, Kaelen dragged his exhausted body toward the desolate Wyrmcrash Cliff.

Without warning, a terrifying, suffocating pressure slammed into his body. The sheer force of it nearly buckled his knees. The air itself seemed to solidify, pressing against his chest. Brilliant forks of lightning abruptly split the pitch-black night sky, illuminating the massive, silver-scaled body of the ancient Cloud Serpent. Its long, sinuous form coiled menacingly through the turbulent air, twisting like a colossal dragon. Each scale radiated a cold, lethal sheen in the brief flashes of light, brimming with pure murderous intent.

The beast’s colossal eyes, burning with an eerie depth and ravenous hunger, locked onto Kaelen. The stare pinned him in place, making him feel like an insignificant speck of dust standing before a god.

"Ten thousand years! You despicable humans! You fragile creatures dare to scheme against me! I will wipe you out!"

The monster thundered with rage, its voice reverberating through Kaelen’s chest with raw, earth-shattering power. Viscous, slimy saliva dripped from its maw as it lunged aggressively at Kaelen, baring massive fangs the size of broadswords. It intended to swallow him whole.

Kaelen stood his ground. Instantly, a blinding wall of golden light descended from the heavens. The ancient warding array manifested exactly six feet from Kaelen's position, slamming the gargantuan beast back. The impact echoed across the mountain as the serpent crashed against the divine barrier, drawing a pitiful, mournful, earth-shaking scream from its maw.

Realizing with certainty that the magically suppressed beast could not touch him through the barrier, Kaelen relaxed his combat stance. He let out a slow breath and cast an Insight check on the writhing monster.

A translucent blue window popped up. The monster was recognized as the Cloud Serpent, an ancient beast. However, its Level, HP, MP, Attack Power, Defense, Speed, and Skills all registered as a string of unknown question marks. The system clearly indicated a level far beyond Kaelen's current comprehension.

But Kaelen wasn't there to study its combat mechanics. He was there to rob it blind.

Standing mere feet from the shimmering golden barrier, he activated his SSS-Rank talent, Phantom Touch. The ethereal skill bypassed the divine ward, ignoring physical and magical boundaries alike to reach directly into the creature's hidden inventory.

A system notification chimed sweetly in his ears, confirming he had successfully extracted the SSS-Rank skill book: Soulreave Venom.

Kaelen opened his inventory. His heart raced frantically as he reviewed the monstrous, game-breaking stats of the poison. It was restricted to Assassins and Thieves, and holding it in his virtual hands felt like wielding a localized apocalypse. Any attack he landed would now apply a vicious sixty-second poison debuff. This wasn't standard elemental damage; it ignored all enemy defenses. It slashed the target's movement and attack speed by a massive fifty percent. In a world where agility and timing dictated survival, cutting an opponent's speed in half rendered their offensive capabilities practically useless.

Even more devastating, the venom rendered the victim incapable of receiving any healing or purification. Priests, high-tier potions, cleansing magic—all of it would fail outright. The poisoned targets could only watch helplessly as their health drained away until death claimed them.

Furthermore, the venom could stack up to three distinct layers. Landing three consecutive hits would maximize the debuff, mercilessly draining health with unmitigated true damage every single second.

More terrifyingly, the skill book possessed a unique evolutionary trait. The venom could continuously absorb different environmental toxins to infinitely scale its own potency. The more rare poisons Kaelen fed to it, the stronger the base damage would become.

Kaelen marvelled deeply at the godlike potential now resting in his inventory. His mind spun with the tactical applications. With a strong enough baseline poison, he realized he wouldn't even need to rely on his physical attack power. The venom alone would deal astronomical, unstoppable damage to anything it touched. He could nick a boss with his dagger, slip back into the shadows using Stealth, and let the un-cleansable rot devour them from the inside out. He had successfully secured the ultimate skill, and his blood burned with an overwhelming eagerness to see this god-tier ability tested in actual combat.
