Awakening the Heavenveil
The heavy ward door clicked shut, sealing the quiet hospital room. Serena stared at the wooden grain for a passing second before her knees finally buckled. She slid down the sterile wall and collapsed onto the cold linoleum floor. Tears spilled over her lashes, hot and unstoppable.
Did I actually just sell my life?
She pulled up her banking app with shaking fingers. The balance stared back at her: 1.8 million. It was real. Her desperate, reckless gamble had paid off. Her dying mother could actually be saved.
Serena grew up in a modest home raised by high school teachers. More than a decade ago, her father died a hero, shielding his terrified students with his own body when their field trip bus lost control and crashed. From that fateful day forward, Lydia Hayes bore the crushing weight of the world alone. Her mother worked herself to the bone, taking on extra shifts and odd jobs to put Serena through college. Just as Serena was finally ready to repay that endless devotion, her mother was struck down by terminal pancreatic cancer during a routine checkup.
The medical bills drained every cent Serena had to her name. She borrowed from friends, begged relatives, and maxed out credit cards until there was nowhere left to turn. With zero options left, she posted that desperate advertisement online, offering her very life to anyone who could afford the staggering treatment costs. The internet responded with vicious mockery, labeling her a scammer and showering her in endless abuse. It was a foolish, naive plea. Yet, miraculously, it had just become her literal lifeline.
Uncertainty clawed at her chest as the initial wave of profound relief settled. That young man was handsome, rich, and ruthless. He had looked her dead in the eye and said he wanted her. There was only one logical conclusion. He bought her for her physical body.
Serena wiped her wet cheeks and looked down at her slender frame. From now on, she belonged to him. She mentally prepared herself to become a plaything, bracing for whatever dark, twisted desires he might demand of her. She would surrender her pride and her autonomy without a fight.
Then, she turned her head. Her mother lay on the hospital bed, her face drawn and pale, her brow knitted in pain even in deep sleep. Serena clenched her fists. This immense personal sacrifice was worth it. She would gladly pay any price to see her mother smile again.

Kaelen sat in the back of an autonomous maglev car, watching the neon city lights streak past the tinted window. He remained blissfully oblivious to the heavy, dramatic assumptions swirling in Serena’s mind.
If he knew she viewed herself merely as a future sexual toy, he would have dragged his hands down his face in pure frustration. Spending five million to secure the unquestioning loyalty of a future top-tier powerhouse was the bargain of a lifetime. It was highway robbery. He invested in her staggering potential to protect the world, knowing exactly the kind of monster she would become on the battlefield. Her body was attractive, sure, but his true motivation was purely strategic.
He glanced at the glowing numbers on his smartwatch. It was 11:30 p.m.
Just thirty minutes remained until the global launch of Clash of Immortals.
Kaelen pulled out his phone and dialed a familiar number. He needed to confirm his state-of-the-art Vital Pod was ready for the server launch.
"You think I'd slack off on something you asked for?" Valerie Stanton answered on the second ring, her voice ringing with lively teasing.
A wave of grounding relief washed over Kaelen. He closed his eyes, letting the sound of her breathing anchor him to this surreal new reality. Valerie was a hardcore gamer—obsessed but undeniably terrible at playing. He was the elite carry she always paid a premium to hire. They had known each other for years, sharing a bond built on trust and endless banter. In his previous life, this vibrant woman had led a desperate rescue mission. She threw herself in front of a fatal killing blow from a Godborn elite, dying a brutal death just to buy Kaelen time to escape. It was his greatest regret, an ache that never quite left his chest.
"Valerie, it is genuinely good to hear your voice." Kaelen spoke quietly into the receiver, his throat tight with unsaid gratitude.
A short pause stretched across the line before she laughed, brushing off his raw sincerity with an affectionate curse.
"What is wrong with you? You have a girlfriend, yet you are shamelessly flirting with an older woman." Valerie teased.
"I am single now. And twenty-six is your undeniable prime. If anyone dares call you old, I will fight them myself." Kaelen declared lightly, leaning back against the leather seat.
"You break up and immediately come tease a woman past her youth? Are you just using me for entertainment?" Valerie snapped back, though the amusement in her tone betrayed her.
"Who is teasing you? I am stating facts. If I were flirting, I would do it to your face. Flirting over the phone is a waste of time." Kaelen countered smoothly.
The shameless, deeply familiar banter worked like a charm. The lingering psychological unease of his sudden rebirth melted away, replaced by a warm, steady focus. He was really back, and he had a chance to fix everything.

The maglev car glided to a smooth halt outside his apartment building. Kaelen hurried upstairs and found the installation crew just packing up their tools. They had finished setting up his high-end Vital Pod right on schedule.
Kaelen grabbed a quick protein bar from the kitchen, chewing mechanically while he watched the clock tick down. With mere minutes to spare before the server opened, he climbed into the sleek, metallic machine and let the pod seal shut.
Instantly, his consciousness plunged into an endless expanse of darkness.
A grand, brutally vivid cinematic exploded before his eyes, signaling the birth of a new era. Pinpricks of brilliant light gathered into a blinding beam that pierced the heavens, slowly wrenching open a vast, ancient Time Gate. The deafening clash of steel and the thunder of apocalyptic war roared through his mind, vibrating in his very bones.
In the blood-red sky, massive dragons spread their wings, blotting out the sun as they unleashed torrents of scorching flame upon the blackened earth. Smaller flying beasts darted through the chaos like living arrows, their talons and beaks tearing through flesh with lethal precision. On the shattered ground below, warriors of myriad races charged fearlessly into the meat grinder. Cold light flashed from their weapons, severing limbs and claiming lives in a grim, stirring symphony of unending slaughter. The sheer scale of the carnage was breathtaking.
"Welcome to Clash of Immortals." The advanced system voice echoed in the void. "Scanning your race… Race confirmed: Human. Identity locked: Human. Locating server… Server confirmed: Elysium. Please set your player ID."
"Shadowbane." Kaelen said firmly.
"Player ID confirmed. Your bloodline has been acknowledged by the myriad races. Special sequence activated."
A glowing interface manifested in the dark space, projecting a list of incredibly formidable Hidden Classes for him to choose from.
'Hidden Class: Void Watcher'
'Description: Void Watchers guard the fractures of space across the cosmos. They can sense and traverse the void.'
'Race: Void Insectoid'
'Class Rank: S'
'Note: Hidden Class Ranks range from SSS down to F. After switching to a Hidden Class outside your native race, your racial power is affected. Against that race, suppression effect: -50%. Inheriting a Hidden Class of your own race negates suppression.'
Kaelen skimmed past it. The list kept scrolling.
'Hidden Class: Nether Shadow'
'Description: Masters of stealth and assassination, excelling in infiltration and close combat. They strike unseen and kill in a single blow.'
'Race: Netherkin'
'Class Rank: SS'
'Hidden Class: Bloodline Guardian'
'Description: The most exalted class among the Bloodkins. Guardians of the clan and keepers of pure bloodlines. Possess powerful healing abilities, providing vital support in battle.'
'Race: Bloodkin'
'Class Rank: SS'
'Hidden Class: Dragon Knight'
'Description: Knights bound by contract to Dragonkins, wielding unmatched mounted combat power.'
'Race: Human'
'Class Rank: SS'
It was his familiar past-life choice. A human SS-rank class that offered a solid, safe path to power. But the glowing text did not stop there. The interface pulsed with a blinding golden light, revealing an unprecedented option at the very bottom.
'Hidden Class: Heavenveil (Unique)'
'Description: A supreme path for a human who wields the terrifying power to deceive heaven itself. Able to acquire anything in silence. Those who walk this path possess unparalleled, godlike stealth and concealment, excel at lockpicking and system breaches, and retain formidable close-quarters combat ability.'
'Class Rank: SSS'
