The Ultimatum
“I don’t want to hurt you,” . “But I have to tell you the truth.”
He stayed silent.
I swallowed hard.
“He’s my mate,” I whispered.
Vaughn’s shoulders went rigid.
But before I could stop myself, before I could soften it or explain or try to make it less cruel, the rest of the truth came tumbling out of my mouth like it had been waiting to be set free.
“And so are you.”
Vaughn turned slowly.
