Bianca The Jinx

Desmond and Lenora sat in stunned silence. The dim light of the bedroom seemed to shift as they processed the impossible promise Serena had just made.

Lenora leaned forward, her hands trembling as she clutched the edge of the worn mattress. She struggled to process the sheer weight of what she was hearing. "Serena, did you say your dad can get well? Is that really what you're telling us?"

Serena nodded, her expression remaining calm and steady. "Yeah, just give it a try. But I can't promise anything right now. It will take time and effort."

"Do you know medicine?" Desmond asked. His sunken eyes were wide as he looked her over, trying to reconcile the young girl before him with the confident, skilled hands that had just examined his atrophied muscles.

"A little," Serena said with a casual shrug, effortlessly downplaying her immense skill. "I studied with someone for a while. I learned enough to know what to look for. From now on, I'll take care of your legs."

To the Montells, this felt nothing short of a divine miracle. They had spent years crushed under the weight of Desmond's tragic accident, drowning in medical bills and relentless hopelessness. Now, their newly returned biological daughter stood before them, offering a sudden glimmer of light in their darkest corner. She was a savior to their desperate household.

As evening fell, the modest house transformed into a chaotic haven of warmth. The comforting scent of cooking oil and rich spices drifted through the narrow hallways. Lenora hurried to the cramped kitchen, determined to prepare a massive celebratory feast with whatever ingredients she could find in the pantry.

"Mom! Mom! I heard my little sister's back! Is that true?" A booming voice rattled the front door hinges as a heavily muscled man barged inside, bringing a gust of evening air with him.

Lenora poked her head out of the kitchen, shooting him an exasperated glare while wiping her wet hands on her apron. "Keep it down, will you? You'll scare her. She just got here."

He ignored the warning, his enthusiasm uncontained. He dropped his heavy canvas work bag on the floor with a loud thud. "Where's my sister? Where is she?"

His dark eyes scanned the small living room and locked onto Serena sitting quietly on the faded couch. He charged over like a runaway freight train and engulfed her in a massive, protective hug, nearly crushing her ribs in the process.

"You're back, finally! I'm so happy!" he yelled, thumping her back with heavy, calloused hands.

"Cough, cough..." Serena wheezed, tapping his thick arm. She was in decent shape, but his sheer, unbridled strength was overwhelming.

Lenora rushed over and yanked him back by his stained shirt collar. "Watch it! She's delicate. She's not rough like you. You're going to break her in half." Lenora turned to Serena with a sheepish, apologetic smile. "Serena, this is your big brother Brant. He works construction. He's a tough guy, and a bit rough around the edges, but he means well. Don't let him intimidate you."

"Hi, Brant," Serena managed to say, catching her breath and straightening her shirt.

Brant was a literal mountain of a man. He stood six feet tall with broad shoulders, thick arms, and a dark complexion baked by the relentless sun. Desmond and Lenora were attractive people, possessing delicate features even under the wear of grinding poverty. But Brant seemed to have inherited pure brawn. If he didn't share Lenora's distinct eyebrows, Serena might have doubted they were related at all.

"Serena, if anyone messes with you, just come to me, your big brother," Brant declared proudly, flexing a massive bicep. "I've got plenty of muscle, and I'll chase off anyone who dares bully you."

Serena stared at him. The gesture was unpolished, lacking the refined grace of the wealthy elite, but it touched her deeply. This genuine, instinctual protection was a stark contrast to the hypocritical, murderous brothers she had endured in the Vance family.

Soon, the front door opened again, bringing more noise and life into the cramped space. Tobias and Quinn arrived. Tobias was handsome, offering a welcoming, albeit nervous, smile. He worked at a gaming company and possessed a much gentler demeanor than Brant. Quinn, the older sister, trailed behind him. She still wore her neon pizza delivery uniform, her hair stuck to her forehead, drenched in sweat from her long route.

"Serena, this is a gift for you," Tobias said, stepping forward and handing over a small, neatly wrapped box. He looked anxious, shifting his weight from foot to foot, hoping to please her. "I hope you like it."

"Thanks, Tobias," Serena said, her smile warming the room. She untied the ribbon and opened it to find a cute little rabbit figurine, perfect for a desk.

Quinn rubbed the back of her neck awkwardly, her cheeks flushing red. "Serena, I'm sorry I didn't get you something as nice as Tobias did. I just got off my route, and I'm a sweaty mess. I didn't even have time to change. I hope you don't mind my appearance."

"It's okay," Serena said softly. She looked at her new siblings. She could see the unpretentious, genuine devotion in their tired eyes. These hardworking people, with their calloused hands and sweat-stained clothes, were vastly superior to the toxic, pristine family she had left behind.

"Come on, wash up! Dinner's ready," Lenora called out cheerfully, carrying steaming plates to the table. "Tonight, we celebrate Serena coming home!"

The family gathered around the small dining table. Even Desmond insisted on joining them in his wheelchair, refusing to eat isolated in his room on such a special night. The table was packed with their favorite, humble dishes. The food wasn't plated with artistic precision, but the aroma was rich, savory, and inviting.

"Serena, try this," Brant said, picking up a generous piece of steak with his fork and dropping it onto her plate. "It's my favorite. You need to build some muscle."

Tobias passed a large ceramic bowl across the table. "Mom's gravy potatoes are amazing. You have to try them before Brant eats them all."

"And the fish," Quinn pointed out, nudging a platter closer to Serena. "It's really yummy. I picked it up fresh on my way home."

Within minutes, Serena's plate was piled high, threatening to spill over the edges. She looked at the mountain of food, then at the eager, smiling faces watching her every move. The Vance family had provided expensive, gourmet meals prepared by private chefs, but no one had ever shown her this raw, unfiltered care. They wanted to share the best of what little they had with her.

"Thank you," Serena murmured. A strange, comforting warmth settled in her chest, melting away the lingering chill of her past life.

"It's a shame your little brother, Felix, boards at school," Lenora said with a heavy sigh, passing the salt. "He doesn't come home often. But you'll meet him soon enough. He's going to be so excited to have a new sister."

After the meal, Serena stood up and reached for the empty plates to help clear the table, but her siblings immediately shooed her away. Brant blocked the sink, and Quinn gently pushed her toward the hallway, insisting she needed to rest after her long day.

Serena retreated to her cozy new bedroom. It was small, barely fitting a bed and a tiny desk, but it felt incredibly secure. The moment she closed the wooden door, the warm expression vanished from her face. An icy, calculated glare took its place, hardening her features. She walked over to the window, staring out into the dark, quiet street as she pulled out her phone.

She dialed a secure, encrypted number.

"Hello, Boss. What can I do for you?" a respectful, professional voice answered after the first ring.

"From now on, halt all cooperation with the Vance Group," Serena ordered, her tone sharp and devoid of emotion.

The voice on the other end let out a gleeful chuckle, breaking the professional facade. "Great! I'm thrilled you finally made up your mind. For years, we've basically acted as a personal ATM for that arrogant bastard Tiberius. We lose money just propping up his ridiculous ventures while he throws tantrums and acts like he owns Kingsport. The Vance family needs a massive reality check. I'll pull the plug right now."

Serena ended the call, her grip tightening on the device. Hatred flared in her chest, a burning inferno as memories of the dismemberment case surfaced in her mind. In her past life, she had secretly built the Vance empire from the shadows. She had poured her blood, sweat, and genius into elevating them, ensuring they never faced a day of hardship. And in return, those hypocrites had poisoned her and slaughtered her like an animal.

They were monsters wrapped in expensive suits.

She possessed the power to raise the Vance family to the very top, which meant she could just as systematically tear down the very empire she had gifted them. They would bleed for what they did.

Meanwhile, inside the luxurious Vance mansion, Bianca stood in awe. She stared at the soft cashmere carpets beneath her feet and the glittering crystal chandeliers hanging from the vaulted ceilings. The sheer opulence of the estate left her breathless. It felt as though she had stepped right into a fairy tale, leaving the grime and struggle of her old life far behind.

Valeria happily guided her down the expansive, art-lined hallway. "Bianca, this is your room. We had it specially decorated as a princess room. Do you like it?"

Bianca stood in the doorway, rendered speechless by the lavish decor. Soft pink silks, a massive canopy bed, and gleaming vanity mirrors filled the space. "Mom, this is beautiful! This room is bigger than the entire house I lived in before!"

Darius had already arranged for a massive wardrobe overflowing with expensive dresses, designer shoes, and sparkling accessories. Bianca ran her fingers over the fine fabrics, unable to hide her sheer delight. The silk slipped through her hands like water. She had finally claimed the life she deserved. No more cramped rooms. No more paralyzed father.

"Go ahead and change into something new," Valeria urged gently, patting Bianca's shoulder. "Don't wear those old clothes anymore. You are a Vance now."

Bianca nodded eagerly, grabbing a stunning, pearl-white dress from the rack before disappearing into her new, massive dressing room.

Downstairs in the grand study, the perfect illusion of wealth and power shattered the moment Tiberius Vance's phone rang.

"What did you say?" Tiberius roared into the receiver, his voice cracking under the sudden strain. "The Atlantis Group wants to stop cooperating with us?"

He paced the hardwood floor, his face flushed with sudden panic. "How could that be? The Atlantis Group is our biggest backer. They elevated us to Kingsport's top tier. They always treated us like royalty. Why would they just sever all ties? You must be mistaken. Check the files again!"

The frantic voice of his assistant echoed through the line, stammering apologies.

"No mistake?" Tiberius shouted, his grip on the phone turning his knuckles white. "Then what is the reason? Why are they dropping us?"

His assistant hesitated, the silence stretching on, heavy with dread.

"What are you waiting for? Spit it out! Give me a reason!" Tiberius demanded, slamming his fist onto his mahogany desk.

The terrified assistant bluntly relayed the exact wording from the Atlantis Group. "They said, and I quote... 'Because Tiberius Vance is an idiot.'"

Tiberius choked on his next breath. He stood frozen, infuriated and deeply humiliated. The sheer disrespect of the statement echoed in his mind. In a blind fit of rage, he hurled his phone across the room. It smashed against the expensive wallpaper, shattering into a shower of glass and plastic on the floor.

Valeria rushed into the study, shock written all over her face as she looked at the broken pieces. "Sweetheart, what happened?"

Tiberius rubbed his forehead, his chest heaving with deep frustration. "The Atlantis Group is dropping us. Those bastards. They are severing all ties."

"Why?" Valeria gasped, her hand flying to her mouth. The Atlantis Group was a massive, mysterious enterprise. Five years ago, they had inexplicably chosen the struggling Vance Group, pouring in endless funding and resources. They were the sole reason the Vance family enjoyed their current luxury and high status. Without them, the foundation of their wealth would crumble.

"I don't know," Tiberius muttered darkly. He stared toward the grand staircase leading to the second floor, his eyes narrowing with a sudden, dark suspicion. "We just brought Bianca home, and the exact moment she arrives, our greatest backer vanishes..." He gritted his teeth, the stress gnawing at his logic. "Is my new daughter a jinx?"
