Our little bubble in the kitchen was interrupted by the school bell ringing. It was a cue that our time here was nearly done.

Small hurried footsteps rumbled through the hallway, and the kids were barreling towards the kitchen, yelling Elaine’s name when they saw her.

They must have seen her arrive earlier, and Harper was first in line.
