Seeds of Doubt

Seeing Sloane's expression soften, Jaxon let out a sigh of relief and quickly snuck in from the doorway.

He set the flowers and fruit on the table, about to call her, but when he caught Sloane's cold look, the word stuck in his throat. "How are you feeling? Any better?" he asked instead.

Sloane wasn't interested in small talk. "What do you want?" she asked bluntly.
