“What is going on?” a voice from behind Beatrix muttered.

The words barely registered.

A sense of foreboding fear had already wrapped itself around her throat, tightening with every second that passed outside the closed door. She kept staring at Runa, at the warrior’s blank expression and fixed posture, and all she could think about was the sound that had come from inside the room.
