"Where the hell was *I*?!" I aggressively growl, my heart still hammering against my ribs like a trapped bird. I twist in the passenger seat, glaring at him. "How is it not your fault, Caleb?!"

I forcefully rip my ruined, dirt-caked shoes off my aching feet. The leather is scuffed beyond repair, the soles torn from my frantic sprint through the unforgiving woods. My toes
