Lethal Rejection

Under the dim, ambient light of the auction house lounge, Gideon’s handsome, aristocratic face appeared dangerously elegant. His sharp features cast deep, imposing shadows across the marble floor as he stepped right into Valerie’s personal space. His tall frame exuded an overwhelming, suffocating pressure that seemed to drain the oxygen from the room.

"I'll take you home," he commanded. His deep, icy voice left no room for refusal or debate. He spoke with a casual authority, acting as if their catastrophic seven years apart, and the brutal imprisonment he had subjected her to, had never even happened.

"No need," Valerie replied instantly. Her tone remained cold and detached, devoid of any lingering affection. She met his intense stare without flinching, unaffected by the sheer proximity of the man who had once ruined her life. "It's none of your business."

Standing a short distance away near the opulent archway, Jaxon, Wyatt, and Caleb watched the tense standoff unfold in breathless silence. They exchanged wide-eyed, whispering glances, in sheer disbelief at Valerie’s steadfast, arrogant defiance. They vividly remembered the desperate, lovestruck girl she used to be. Noticing her icy demeanor, they quietly concluded among themselves that being personally, coldly handcuffed and sent to a brutal prison by Gideon seven years ago had irrevocably shattered the pathetic love she once held for him.

Losing his notoriously thin patience at her blatant rejection, Gideon's eyes darkened. The air around him turned frigid. He reached out with lightning speed, his large hand aiming to grip her arm and bend her to his will.

"Valerie, come with me!" he demanded harshly.

But instead of yielding or cowering as she once might have, Valerie countered with shocking reflexes. She skillfully and seamlessly blocked his forceful strike with her forearm, twisting her body with trained precision to evade his grasp. In the blink of an eye, she swiftly produced a long, gleaming silver medical needle from her clutch. She aimed the lethally sharp tip directly at the pulsing vein in his neck, stopping just millimeters from his skin. The silver glinted dangerously under the ambient lighting.

"Mr. Prescott, you'd better stay away from me," she warned. Her voice dropped to a deadly, arrogant defiance that sent a chill through the sprawling room.

Holding the lethal pose for a fraction of a second to ensure he understood the gravity of her threat, she fluidly withdrew the weapon. Casting him a final, profoundly cold glance that held nothing but disdain, she turned on her heel and walked away.

Rather than erupting into the fiery anger his friends expected, Gideon simply stood frozen. He watched her confident, receding departure with a dark, complex gaze. His eyes tracked her every graceful, defiant movement like a lethal predator intently eyeing a prized, dangerous prey. The submission he once expected from her was gone, replaced by a venomous thorn that sparked a dark fascination within him.

Returning swiftly to the safety of her private lounge, Valerie immediately knelt to reassure an anxious, fiercely protective Leo. She gently smoothed his soft hair, letting her icy exterior melt away. Carter, maintaining his utmost professionalism, quickly arranged a secure transport for their safe return to the luxurious Crestmont Hotel.

Once safely locked inside his spacious hotel room, little Leo immediately booted up his encrypted laptop. He initiated a secure video call with his twin brother, Finn.

"I got the Bamboo Reishi, but that bad guy showed up and upset Valerie," Leo reported, his small face scrunched in deep displeasure.

On the screen, Finn’s expression instantly mirrored Gideon’s signature, terrifying coldness. His young eyes flashed with a protective rage that belied his age. "I heard through the network that he has a massive, valuable shipment arriving at the border tonight. I'll teach him a severe lesson for upsetting Valerie," Finn declared with chilling precociousness.

"I'll hack into the Prescott Group's main system again later to distract them," Leo agreed eagerly. Their shared, fierce fury fueled their calculated resolve to protect their mother at all costs.

Later that very night, the mighty Prescott Group faced simultaneous, coordinated attacks. A relentless, malicious cyber network hack aimed at their core mainframes, trying to tear through their encrypted firewalls. At the exact same time, a sudden, devastating physical ambush struck their guarded border shipment, throwing their logistics into sudden chaos. Though the brilliant IT expert Nolan Fisher sweated through his shirt to barely thwart the cyber attack and prevent a catastrophic data breach, the blatant, aggressive hostility of both strikes was immediately reported directly to a brooding Gideon.

Standing in his dimly lit office, the imposing CEO listened to the damage reports. Dalton nervously approached his boss, his hands slightly trembling as he handed over the recently acquired, confidential guest list for the Crestmont Hotel. He hesitated, swallowing hard before revealing the crucial detail.

"Sir... Valerie and her son checked in there yesterday."

Gideon’s refined, sharp features furrowed deeply. The pieces of the puzzle rapidly assembled in his brilliant mind. The timing of the cyber attacks, the boy he had seen her with, the hotel records—it all pointed in one impossible direction.

"Find Valerie's personal number immediately," he ordered. His voice dropped to a deadly whisper that echoed in the silent office.

Across the city, fresh from a hot, soothing bath, Valerie stood in her plush robe. She vigorously toweled her wet hair when her phone began to ring persistently on the bedside table. Seeing an unknown Eastport number flashing on the screen, she answered with a slight, irritated frown.

"Who is this?" she asked crisply.

"It's me," came the deep, magnetic, and undeniably arrogant response through the speaker.

Instantly recognizing the heavy, commanding timbre of Gideon's voice, a flash of pure annoyance crossed Valerie's face. She didn't have the time or the patience for his games. Without a second thought, she moved her thumb to forcefully end the call.

As if anticipating her exact reaction across the city, Gideon’s voice dropped into a low, terrifying warning. "Valerie, try hanging up—"

But before he could even finish the threatening sentence, Valerie pressed the button. The line went unapologetically dead.

Staring at his suddenly silent phone, Gideon's handsome expression darkened to a dangerously volatile, terrifying degree.
