The harsh fluorescent lights of the Eastport correctional facility buzzed overhead. Whispers slithered through the sterile visitation room, thick with eager gossip.

"Look at her. The untouchable Valerie Kensington," a woman muttered, her eyes tracking the prisoner in faded orange. "What a tragic joke. Three years behind bars, and her life is dust."

"It doesn't matter how pretty she is," another onlooker sneered, leaning over the plastic table. "Gideon Prescott locked her up himself. Threw his own fiancée to the wolves. I’d be too ashamed to keep breathing."

Valerie sat motionless. The gossip washed over her, meaningless static compared to the sharp click-clack of designer heels echoing across the linoleum floor.

Chloe Kensington halted at her table, her smile a slash of venomous victory. "Valerie," she purred, her voice dripping with mock sympathy. "It must be pure hell, knowing the man you loved more than life itself is the very one who threw you into this cage."

Valerie lifted her chin. Beneath the table, her fingernails bit into her palms until they bled. The phantom weight of cold steel clamped around her wrists still burned her skin—a parting gift personally delivered by Gideon. The agonizing memory of his hands snapping the cuffs shut threatened to tear her soul apart. Drawing upon a deep well of resilience, she locked the agony away behind a fortress of ice.

"I came here to share some wonderful news," Chloe gloated loudly, leaning closer to savor the moment. "I'm getting engaged. To Gideon."

Valerie stared directly into her half-sister’s mocking eyes. Not a single muscle in her pale face twitched. Her coldness was steady and unbroken. "Is that so? Congratulations."

Chloe scowled, infuriated by her failure to elicit tears. "You need to get it through your head, Valerie. The title of top socialite, the Prescott name, everything that was yours is mine now. Gideon always loved me. You were just a nuisance to him. Rot in here."

Valerie’s voice emerged flat and hollow, stripped of emotion. "Chloe, tell him I no longer want him. He means nothing to me from now on."

Stung by the chilling dismissal, Chloe spun on her heel and marched out of the bleak facility. The moment she pushed through the heavy doors into the sunlight, she pulled out her phone.

"It's me," Chloe snapped into the receiver, a malicious smirk twisting her lips. "Transfer Valerie Kensington to the men's prison immediately. Make sure she experiences a living hell."

Shadows clung to the corners of the dimly lit study inside the Prescott Mansion. Gideon Prescott stood rigidly by the floor-to-ceiling window, a towering silhouette of suffocating authority. His jaw was set, his features carved from unforgiving stone.

The heavy oak doors creaked open. Chloe stepped in, her heels clicking softly as she batted her lashes, eager to cement her new permanent status at his side.

"What were her exact words?" Gideon demanded, his voice a low, icy rumble that commanded the room.

Assuming this was her moment to sever his ties to Valerie forever, Chloe stepped closer, repeating the rejection verbatim. "She said she doesn't want you anymore. She said you mean nothing to her from now on."

Chloe waited for him to reach for her. Instead, a heavy silence crashed over the room. Gideon’s eyes darkened to a terrifying pitch. The temperature in the study plummeted, offering no hint of the warmth she anticipated.

"Dalton," Gideon ordered coldly.

His assistant stepped swiftly from the shadows.

"Throw her out," Gideon commanded without sparing Chloe a single glance. "She is banned from these premises. Forever."

Chloe’s triumphant smile shattered into profound shock. "Gideon? Wait, you can't—"

"Get her out!"

Dalton grabbed the deeply humiliated woman by the arm and forcibly dragged her from the room. Her desperate protests faded down the long, cavernous hallway.

Gideon sank into his leather chair, his jaw clenched tight. "Get Dr. Leland. Now."

Minutes later, the private physician rushed into the tense study.

Gideon didn't offer a polite greeting. He leaned forward, his demeanor unyielding and firm. "Do whatever it takes to restore my memory."

Seven years later.

"Valerie. Wake up."

Valerie gasped, her eyes flying open as the descending airplane hit a turbulent patch of air. Her chest heaved. The same shadowy nightmare—a suffocating, faceless figure dragging her down into the abyss—receded into the back of her mind. She ran a trembling hand through her hair, trying to shake off the lingering dread that haunted her sleep.

A small, warm hand touched her arm. The hardened exterior she had meticulously built over the past seven years melted. She turned to look at her five-year-old son, Leo.

"Did you have the nightmare again?" Leo asked, his big eyes perceptive and reassuring as he patted her arm.

Valerie offered a rare, gentle smile, her demeanor softening. "Yes. Are we almost there, sweetheart?"

"Landing in twenty minutes," Leo replied calmly.

The bustling terminal of the Eastport airport faded into the background as the stunning mother-and-son duo made their entrance. Valerie wore a tailored black dress that accentuated her striking figure, radiating a detached elegance. Beside her, little Leo pushed his own luggage, his handsome face set in an expression of cool maturity. They looked like royalty, instantly commanding the awe and stares of everyone around them.

Parked near the curb outside, Jaxon Reed gripped the steering wheel of his sleek sedan, his knuckles turning white. Beside him, Wyatt Caldwell sat paralyzed in stunned disbelief.

"Is that..." Jaxon choked out, staring through the tinted glass. "Is that Valerie Kensington?"

"She’s back," Wyatt muttered, his eyes wide. "Three grueling years in a cell and four years vanished off the face of the earth. And she just walks right back into the city."

Jaxon swallowed hard. "Do we call Gideon? Should we warn him about this ghost returning?"

Wyatt shook his head slowly, watching a black SUV pull up to collect her. "Don't bother. A man with Gideon's immense power already knows she just set foot in Eastport."

The plush leather seats of the black SUV offered a quiet sanctuary from the chaotic airport traffic. At the wheel, Naomi Price merged onto the highway, her eyes flicking to the rearview mirror.

"So," Naomi began, a curious smirk playing on her lips. "What finally brings the untouchable 'Miracle Hand' back to this cursed city?"

Valerie rested her elbow against the door, watching the familiar, looming skyline of Eastport blur past. "To save someone."

Naomi raised an eyebrow. "Must be a critical mission to drag a myth like you out of hiding."

"It aligns with my immediate goal," Valerie said, her tone businesslike. "I need to acquire the Bamboo Reishi. It goes up for bidding at the Aurum Auction tomorrow night."

"Ah. Two birds, one stone." Naomi chuckled, aware of Valerie’s formidable reputation in the underground medical world. She then glanced at the boy sitting dutifully beside his mother. "Hey, Leo. Want to come check out my advanced research institute tomorrow while your mom handles business?"

Leo crossed his arms, his little face a mask of flat refusal. "No thank you. I have strict orders from Finn."

Naomi laughed. "Your twin brother is bossing you around from afar?"

"He told me to protect Mommy at all costs," Leo stated maturely. "If I fail, Finn will cut off my snack supply."

"Leo, sweetheart," Naomi teased gently. "Your mom is a legend. There is no one in Eastport who could possibly harm her now."

Despite Naomi's confident assurance, Leo’s adorable face remained set in a mask of unwavering vigilance. He acutely knew he couldn't afford to let his guard down for a single second. Somewhere out there in the sprawling city limits of Eastport, the big bad guy who once deeply hurt his mommy was still lurking. And Leo was ready for him.
