A Dangerous Fairness

The frosted glass door swung open, slicing through the thick, swirling clouds of hot steam I had built up in the shower. I stepped out into the cool, conditioned air of the massive suite. Water dripped from my wet hair, trailing down the scarred ridges of my shoulders and chest. The sharp scent of cedarwood and crushed pine clung to my damp skin. I wiped a hand over my face, le
