Evie’s heart hammered so hard she was sure he could feel it. She moved toward him slowly, arms wrapped around herself, never breaking his gaze. When she stopped in front of him, she hesitated. The faint smirk on his face told her he was waiting.

She took a breath and climbed onto his lap, straddling him. His hands settled at her waist, steady and warm, as he leaned back slightly, watching her.
