The Lycan's Rejection
Rhea’s POV
The receptionist scrambled frantically to her feet, her chair scraping harshly against the polished marble floor. Pure terror widened her eyes as Mr. Vance glared down at her. His cold, Lycan authority radiated through the sprawling lobby, suffocating the expansive space.
"I decide who I see and who I turn away," Silas stated. His tone was low, a lethal rumble that left no room for debate. "Not you. Remember your place."
The woman swallowed hard, dropping her gaze as if maintaining eye contact physically burned her.
Silas shifted his intense focus to me. "Follow me."
My legs felt like jelly. I stumbled forward, forcing my trembling knees to lock so I could keep pace with his imposing figure. He bypassed the rest of the waiting area and guided me into a sleek, transparent glass elevator. He tapped a sequence into a high-tech touchscreen panel, and the doors slid shut, sealing us inside.
Trapped in the confined space, the reality of my situation hit me with brutal force. I was hyper-aware of his intoxicating, dominant scent—crisp mint mixed with a dark, masculine musk. My heart hammered against my ribs. Beneath the thick, heavy fabric of my trench coat, I wore nothing but delicate red lingerie. The lace scratched slightly against my bare skin, a constant, nerve-wracking reminder of my desperate plan.
He stood mere inches away, yet his gaze remained fixed straight ahead. The silence stretched, thick and heavy. Did he even find me attractive? Doubt gnawed at my fading resolve.
The elevator glided to a smooth halt. The doors parted, revealing a sprawling, gorgeous executive office. Expansive floor-to-ceiling windows offered a dizzying, breathtaking view of the bustling human city below.
"Where exactly is your office?" I murmured, taking in the rich granite walls and modern artwork.
"This is my office," he replied, his voice devoid of any readable emotion.
He bypassed the plush leather chair behind his massive desk. Instead, he turned to face me, leaning casually against the polished edge of the wood and crossing his ankles. He had rolled his crisp white sleeves up to his elbows, putting his impressive, thick arm muscles on full display. The dark slacks hugged his waist and muscular thighs with perfection.
I caught myself staring at the veins running down his forearms. When my gaze snapped up, Silas gave a knowing, confident smirk. The corner of his mouth twitched upward. He caught me.
My cheeks burned. I shifted my weight, trying to ignore the heat flooding my face.
"So," he began, his deep voice slicing through the heavy tension. "Why are you here?"
I forced myself to breathe. "I have a problem. I need your help."
He raised a dark brow. "What kind of problem?"
"My father was arrested," the words spilled from my lips in a desperate rush. "His business went bankrupt overnight. We lost everything. He owes a staggering amount of money. Five million dollars, to be exact."
Silas did not flinch at the astronomical figure. He maintained a calm demeanor, his dark eyes analyzing me, stripping away my defenses layer by layer as he waited for me to continue.
"I want you to pay it off," I pleaded, stepping closer to his desk. "Pay the debt so he can get out of that damp prison. Save my family from ruin."
He ran a large hand over his jaw, processing the heavy request. "Five million dollars," he echoed softly. "And what exactly would I get in return for handing over that kind of money to your family?"
This was the moment. I mustered every ounce of my fading courage. Looking a Lycan straight in the eyes was a dangerous challenge, but I kept my chin high.
With trembling hands, I reached for the knot at my waist. I undid the belt of my trench coat. I let the heavy fabric part just enough to reveal a scandalous portion of the red lace clinging to my breasts, the deep plunge of my exposed cleavage, and the pale bare skin of my stomach. The cool air of his office hit my exposed flesh, making my nipples harden instantly against the thin material.
Silas’s gaze dropped. His eyes darkened instantly, tracking the line of my throat down to the crimson lace framing my chest.
"At the party, we clearly had a connection," I murmured, dropping my voice to a sultry, inviting tone. I took another step closer, closing the distance until the raw heat radiating from his large body washed over mine. "I thought maybe I could do favors for you."
His chest rose and fell with a sudden, noticeable heaviness.
"I am a clean college student," I whispered, holding his dark stare. "I am a virgin. Untouched. And I am on birth control, so there are zero complications. Whatever you want, my body is yours."
The air between us crackled, heavy with a thick, suffocating tension. Silas pushed off the desk and closed the small gap between us. His sheer size dwarfed me, making me feel fragile and exposed under his predatory gaze. He raised his hand. His calloused fingers gently brushed against the soft skin of my cheek. The unexpected texture of his touch sent a rush of liquid warmth straight to my core, pooling low in my belly.
I fluttered my eyes closed. My breath hitched in my throat. I parted my lips, leaning in, eagerly anticipating the crushing kiss I was sure would follow. I waited for his strong arms to wrap around my waist, to claim the prize I was so freely offering.
Instead, I felt a firm, sharp tug on the lapels of my coat.
My eyes flew open in pure shock.
Silas’s strong hands pulled the heavy fabric together, firmly covering my exposed chest and stomach. He adjusted the collar, shutting away the scandalous red lingerie and my bare skin from his sight.
I stared up at him, stunned. His expression had shifted from dark desire to an incredibly stern, deeply disappointed expression.
"Do you truly believe I need to pay a woman for sex?" he questioned sharply, his deep voice carrying a biting edge. "You said it yourself the other night. I have endless options."
My face went up in flames. The immediate rejection hit me like a physical blow, stealing the air right out of my lungs. "I just thought—"
"You thought you could use your body to pay for my help," he interrupted, his tone suddenly softening with a painful, agonizing compassion that hurt far worse than his initial anger. "You are young, Miss Ashdown. You will deeply regret taking such degrading shortcuts in your life."
I shrank back, clutching the edges of my coat shut with white knuckles. The sheer humiliation burned the back of my throat, making my eyes sting with unshed tears. He did not want me. He saw right through my desperate attempt at seduction.
"I have a daughter," Silas continued, his voice dropping to a quiet, firm resonance that commanded my full attention. He reached out, his fingertips briefly grazing the nape of my neck, sending a shiver down my spine. "I would never teach her to use her body as a mere transaction. I want more for her future."
He withdrew his hand, the sudden loss of his touch leaving me cold.
"I expected better from you."
Those six words crushed my very soul. They shattered the last fragile remnants of my pride, leaving me hollow, raw, and bleeding internally. He was right. I was better than this. Selling my virginity in an executive office for a multi-million dollar payout was a new, devastating low.
Before I could even attempt to defend my desperate actions, the heavy click of the office door echoed behind me. I spun around. Two massive security guards in tailored black suits stood at the entrance, their expressions blank and unyielding.
Silas’s patience had run out.
"My time is up," he stated coldly, walking around his desk and turning his back on me. "Escort Miss Ashdown out of the building. Please."
"Yes, sir," the guards replied in perfect unison.
They marched forward and flanked my sides, their massive frames leaving no room for argument. Consumed by a burning, suffocating shame that made my stomach churn, I kept my head lowered.
"Thank you for your time," I whispered to his back, my voice cracking.
I allowed the silent guards to march me out of the grand executive office, back into the glass elevator, and through the expansive lobby. The receptionist shot me a triumphant, mocking smirk as I was unceremoniously escorted through the revolving glass doors and out onto the harsh concrete pavement.
The cool city wind whipped my hair across my flushed face. I pulled the trench coat tighter around my trembling body. The reality of my dire situation crashed down on me with relentless force. There was no easy way out. No billionaire savior. I desperately needed to find a legitimate job.
Hours later, the deafening bass of club music vibrated through the soles of my cheap sneakers.
I stood miserably beside Meg behind the long, sticky mahogany bar. The restaurant had shed its tame daytime dining atmosphere hours ago, transforming into a wild club packed with sweaty bodies, spilled drinks, and flashing neon lights.
I tugged uncomfortably at the hem of my ridiculous, revealing uniform. It was a tiny, tight black short skirt that barely covered my backside, paired with a deeply low-cut red crop top. The skimpy fabric clung tightly to my breasts, pushing my cleavage up and putting far too much pale skin on display for the drunken patrons to leer at. Every time I moved, the skirt rode up dangerously high. I felt exposed, vulnerable, and incredibly cheap.
But I could not pass this opportunity up. The wealthy men who frequented this raucous place threw around large bills without a second thought. The generous tips were my only lifeline to keep the bank from seizing our home by the end of the week.
"Stop pulling at it," Meg sighed, slapping my hand away from my skirt. She looked incredible in her matching uniform, owning the revealing fabric with effortless confidence. "We are going to make a killing tonight. You look hot. Just own it."
"I feel like I am on an auction block," I muttered, crossing my arms defensively over my exposed chest in a futile attempt to hide my deep cleavage.
"That is what friends are for," she said, bumping her shoulder against mine in a show of solidarity. "I will watch your back. Just smile, flirt a little, serve the drinks, and take their money."
A loud burst of male laughter suddenly erupted from the front entrance, cutting through the heavy bass of the music.
Meg looked over my shoulder, her eyes scanning the incoming crowd. She let out a heavy sigh, nudging me hard in the ribs with her elbow. "Looks like we just got a massive group of guys. Incoming. Good luck."
I took a deep, steadying breath, forcing my tense facial muscles to stretch into a polite, welcoming smile. I turned around, a standard waitress greeting resting right on the tip of my tongue.
Then, I froze.
The forced smile shattered, falling from my lips in an instant. My blood ran ice cold, freezing the very marrow in my bones. The deafening club music faded into a dull, distant underwater hum. My heart slammed against my ribs, a painful, frantic beat of dreadful shock.
Walking through the neon-lit entrance, surrounded by a group of loud, rowdy friends, was a face I recognized instantly.
Declan.
